Chapter 8 007

Anger flooded her veins as the assassin started to dig the grave right in front of her eyes. She thought, "I do not care, Arthur; you can do your worst when I return-but do not cross the line so you do not lose your life tonight." She pulled out her sword and spun around to charge the assassin, who was already feeling pursued.

A sword duel broke out between them as he brandished his weapon. They glared at each other, their swords colliding and crossing each other as they exploded with rage.

She withdrew, reaching for a knife she was holding in her left hand, slashed at his neck, and jumped forward to meet him. Rather than retreat, he ignored the wound and charged at her, swinging his sword, to which she answered with a clang that reverberated through the shrub.

"Retreat!" she yelled at him. However, she was met with an unexpected blow to the face that knocked her to the ground. He moved forward brandishing his sword, and she fell backwards ... ..and as soon as she was upright, she leaped over his neck, kicking him in the forehead and keeping him from falling to the ground.

She took advantage of the fact that she was holding his neck from behind to remove his mask. She yelled again, "Back off!" but he grabbed her arm and attempted to yank it away from him. "Here, I can murder you."

"Freya, you cannot kill your savior." he shot back.

At hearing him say her name, her brows furrowed. "Is he acquainted with me? Is he aware of my existence? Then why is she getting that witch to believe him?" she wondered, perplexed.

He went on, "I did that to save you, but I knew you would come for me one day."

She swallowed. "Bullshit!" she cursed before knocking him out. "Return to her when you wake up; taking you away will ruin my time." She dragged him to the corner and hurried to the grave. She started digging it by herself, estimating that it would only take an hour, but she continued digging until the early hours of the following day.

The assassin was gone when she turned to face where she had hidden him.

"How does he know I am still alive and will come for him? So he purposefully killed someone else instead of me-there is something I do not understand." After giving the area a quick look, she pulled out the nylon she noticed there, thinking maybe the corpse's bones would be inside, but it was empty.

"What on earth is this? I wasted my time here for nothing." She glanced back, but nobody was there. "Is this a drama or something? He came here on purpose, huh? That means he knows I will follow him." She threw away the shovel furiously. "The wasted time. Now that I have accomplished nothing here, how will I lie to Arthur?" she rubbed at her hair.

"I have to locate him once more, and he needs to tell me everything he knows about all of these." Taking her sword, she turned to walk away. She told herself, "He will come back and cover the grave," and since it was still fairly dark, she hurried back to the palace.

As she made her way to the edge of the palace, she noticed Flarry dozing off against the wall. She gave him a gentle tap. "What is keeping you here?"

"To give you this," he said, handing her the gown. "Make sure you are not seen," he warned her before leaving.

She removed the mask and changed into the gown before entering the palace. She tiptoed into the building and noticed Luna pacing around the corridor. "She's a witch. Witches don't sleep." She considered her options and decided to go the other way to enter her room through the window.

She made her way up to her window and into the room with great ease, moving silently once she was inside.

Her blood was drained by the body on her bed.

"It can not be a statue, a doll, or a ghost," she said, wiping her face. "Is this a dream or something? Why am I so shocked tonight?" She mustered the courage to move closer.

Despite her assassination skills, she is vulnerable to ghosts. She is always cautious not to focus her gaze on dolls or statues for fear that they are ghosts because she cannot bear to see them.

She lifted the blanket to get a better look. The maid had gotten her dinner that night. She sighed heavily, regaining her composure after realizing it was a human.

"Should I scold you or just forget about it?" She spun around, but then the maid abruptly turned around again, reaching out and touching her gown. "I have anger issues, and if you keep scaring me, I will chop off your head," she told her harshly.

"Your Highness!" she mentioned.

She smacked her cheeks. "Ouch! It has been seventeen years and no one knows you, Freya, so stop dreaming," she whispered to herself. This time, she feels as though everything has been a dream, from the maid addressing her as royalty to the assassin mentioning her name.

She doesn't care that no one talks to her despite the fact that she is acting as the Alpha's Luna.

"Well, you can address me that way because I am the acting Luna." She consoled herself and touched the bed again; the body was still there.

When she could bear it no longer, she took off her gown, took her sword out of its sheath, and raised it to her throat. "Get out of here, human or ghost, before I do the worst."

She was surprised to find that the maid had drawn the sword closer to her neck when she had expected her to bolt from the room. "I should die at the hands of my mistress, so you have every right to kill me."

"What is this garbage all about?" She jacked her off the bed and flung the sword to the ground. "Who are you?"

She gave a wink, allowing tears to fall freely from her eyes. "I am the maid who used to serve you back when you were a princess. Only the two of us made it out of the attack unscathed," she admitted.

She flung her back against the bed. "It is not appropriate to ignore this. The assassin claimed he did it to save me, and this is the maid who served me." she licked her lips. "Is this a trap or what? But even the assassin does not look familiar to me. "Were they hired to pull out my legs, or are they truly who they are?"

Everything was incomprehensible.

She moved closer to the bed and squatted. "Speak the truth before I snap your neck. Who are you and why are you here?" This time, her voice was quieter because she only really needed the truth. To protect herself from being discovered, she had made the decision to avoid interacting with anyone outside of the King and the palace servants.

"My name is Sera, and I was your maid prior to the palace attack. The king was looking for you, and because I was the only one who knew where you were, I disguised myself as you and laid here to convince him that you were fine." She took a moment to wipe away her tears. "I was worried that he would forget you and hurt you."

Her eyes grew wider. "What do you mean? Who are you speaking about?"

"The Assassin!"
