Chapter 5 The Truth

Alexander's POV

A groan escaped from my lips as my muscles tensed up. My hand flew to the other side of the bed to reach for someone, but shockingly, I felt only the soft mattress. I frowned, then opened my eyes as I turned to look at my side. My face was blank, but within me, I was confused.

My face darkened when I realized the possibility of her running off. I clenched my jaw as my eyes swept around the room before I took a deep breath.

I could still remember her scent, her moans were clear in my head. The way she held on to me as if her life depended on it while I made love to her passionately as she screamed in pleasure. It was her first time, and somehow I didn't actually dislike it. I was never into virgins because I felt they were inexperienced. Thus, they wouldn't give a remarkable experience, but yesterday changed my perspective.

Her soft body and sweet lips seemed to have been imprinted on my mind because I kept thinking of her, but strangely I couldn't remember her face and even her voice. I gently rose from the bed, but hisses when I felt a sharp pain in my head.

I almost forgot how drunk I was yesterday. I slowly started remembering how I ditched the elders when they started with their usual talks about me getting married and having a child, so I could finally gain full access to the throne.

They claimed that a good leader is someone responsible enough to take care of his home before outsiders. And so, they needed me to have a home before becoming their leader. Although I was already the king, I was still under the court and would only be responsible for it once I proved to them that I could handle both my family and the kingdom. It was a rule that my ancestors and generations must abide by as a king of the Lycan kingdom.

It was not always like this but for some reason lately, the pressure increased, and they nagged every day and not only during meetings. They even sent ahead to suggest several women they believe would be to my satisfaction and also be a great ruler beside me. Some of those women were their daughters, nobles of the kingdom.

I remembered going to the bar I frequented after ditching them. I never really rely on alcohol whenever I am depressed, but lately, I seem to have become a bit fond of it as I seek solace from it.

After drowning in the bottle of alcohol that was simply not enough, I decided to head to the River Pack, which was obviously a bad idea. The moment I heard screams of pain, I instantly knew that someone was in danger. I was not the type to meddle in someone else's business, but I didn't know what pushed me when I saw the fragile figure that was being surrounded by rogues. I knew that I shouldn't get involved. Nevertheless, I did and within a minute, I tore them apart.

"It seems someone is lost in thoughts," I heard a familiar voice, breaking my reverie, and I lifted my gaze only to find Sebastian walking into the room. He pulled a seat in front of me and made himself comfortable.

"Where did you spend the night last night? I thought we had agreed to go to the River Pack tomorrow? Why did you have to go there alone today?" He questioned, earning a sigh from me.

I raised a brow. "I needed some space yesterday. I spent a night close to the River Pack's territory, so I decided to get her this morning instead of wasting time," I replied nonchalantly.

"What?!" His voice reverberated, and I was expecting that reaction from him. Knowing him since childhood, he was always so dramatic.

"You went by yourself to get her, but what if it was a trap. You should've told me you were going there, I could've joined you," his eyes were as wide as a saucer.

"Sebastian, I am fine and nothing happened," I tried to reassure him. Nevertheless, the scenes from last night were still replaying in my head. Besides, I couldn't reveal that something actually happened.

"Of course, but just because you're stronger than them doesn't mean you can risk yourself like that. Remember the future of the Lycan kingdom lies in your hands, if you die, then so will the kingdom since you don't have any successor," he pointed out.

It had been two years, but those years left a scar in our hearts. The only compensation we got from the war was the death of the alpha's son.

"Are you sure accepting the alpha's daughter was a good idea?" He asked, raising a brow. He was against the idea from the start, with the belief that everyone from the River Pack was an enemy.

"I am equally tired of the war. This would be the best way to settle it, besides we've achieved what we wanted. We wanted to give them a scar that they never forget as well, and we did. Taking his daughter is just an additional punishment," I replied coldly.

"You're still as cold as always. At least we've gotten the vengeance we needed, and I'm happy that we can finally move on," he spoke, but I could hear the uncertainty in his tone.

Looking at him for a while in silence, I contemplated if I should let go of what happened last night or follow the feeling that was slowly driving me insane.

So I chose the latter. "Sebastian, I'd you to find someone--" I paused suddenly, and a frown was etched across my face when I sensed something, or someone, outside.

Soon the door was pushed open, and a guard stepped into the room. "Your majesty, the elders require your audience," he replied with his head down in respect.

With a deeper frown etched across my face, I waved him off before turning to look at Sebastian, who passed me a perplexed expression as well.

"Let's find out what they want," he said as if he read my thoughts.

Pushing the large door that led to the spacious behind it, my gaze darted around the place, and they fell on the elders that were seated around the table.

I could hear their voices as they whined while throwing their hands in the air as they spoke.

The moment they realized my presence, they stood up and bowed in respect. "Your majesty," they chorused.

"What's with the sudden meeting?" I asked to take a seat at the shorter end of the table. Sebastian was talking right behind me.

"We heard about the marriage and, in fact, we did our investigation, and we discovered something about your wife. It turns out that the bride you took as a settlement is useless," one of the elders spoke up after a short silence.

I could see the impatience written on their faces with that short silence. "What do you mean?" I could tell by the look on their faces that they were more than serious, they were dead serious.

"The alpha lied to you. If he told you that she was precious because she is his first daughter, then you must know that she is actually not his only daughter. Not only that, she's wolfless, and her mother was a whore." The more details he provided, the more I realized how terrible this was.

So they had the audacity to bring someone wolfless as a settlement? The daughter of a prostitute? This must be a misunderstanding because no one would be as dense to the extent of risking the pack. Do they know the repercussions for their deceit?

"And where did you get this information from? Who is your source?" I demanded as my face turned darker.

"Someone from the Pack said it. She was hated in the Pack by many for following her mother's footsteps. That lady would ruin our name. She's useless to this Kingdom. Someone wolfless is completely useless. She's definitely not fit to be the queen," he replied promptly.

Everywhere became silent as they waited patiently for my decision. I could feel my blood boiling through my veins. Not only would this ruin the reputation of the kingdom, but this might also put me in a bad light.

"I think we're all forgetting something. Her worth doesn't matter because I only got married to provide the kingdom with an heir. Once I achieve that, then we can focus on more important things," I reasoned, causing them to go mute for a while.

"Then I'll suggest that his majesty eliminates her once this goal is achieved. We don't need a worthless being as our queen. I also hope you don't easily forget the cause of the war. Anybody from that pack is our enemy," another elder added.

I clenched my fists and through gritted teeth, I dismissed the elders. However, my anger was directed to her father. He must be happy that he managed to play smart. If only he knew what was waiting for him.

I stalked out of the room, while Sebastian followed from behind. "Are you going to listen to them?" He asked curiously.

"What do you think would be better? Having her as my queen or teaching her father a lesson?" I questioned back in return as I pulled the door open only to meet a pair of dark brown eyes that were filled with teary.

I could hear Sebastian gasping in shock. What was she doing here? Did she hear everything that was said?
