Chapter 8 Kayla

It's been a few days since I talked with Alvin outside of the Butterfly Palace food joint. I've seen him around school three times since then and he has always looked at me. I could feel his eyes caressing me with my every move and when I turn to look at him he just mouths the word Maggie like the creep he is. I smile every time he does it. I hate myself for it. Mackenzie, my roommate asked me who he was the first time it happened because we were together and I told her a very clean version of how we met. I wanted to yell suck it Kali not everyone knows everyone.

But I didn't.

Other than those few lingering stares we haven't really talked and I'm glad. . .I guess. I have no time to chat him up not only because he hates me but because I've actually been really busy these past few days.

I ended up getting the call from Ray saying that I was hired and that I had to come and sign a few things. So I am a working girlie right now. On top of that classes have started and the lectures are very much interested in just giving us a bunch of stuff to do after teaching barely anything.

The Werewolf history teacher talks so slow I've fallen asleep in every one of his classes, along with more than half the class.

Everything is just so stressful that I haven't even had a chance to tell Kaze and Kali about the job.

They are also busy so its not like I've been avoiding them or anything. okay maybe I have been avoiding them a little bit but that's just because I know what they'll say, they just won't understand that I need to this for myself but ill have to suck it up because I've already invited them to come to BP for lunch and they are going to be here any minute now. As if they can hear my thoughts they come trudging in laughing about something.

I told Ray that I was going to take my lunch whenever my siblings came. He agreed as long as it lasts the hour I'm supposed to use and as long as I'm not busy with customers. My sister sees me first gasping so loud that some people turn to look at her. "Oh my god what is this?" She asks with all the drama she can master. "Surprise?" I say

"What's going on I don't get it" Kaze says looking from Kali to me.

"Can you please sit down first." I show them towards an empty table and Kali is looking at me expectedly while Kaze is looking all confused and shit.

He's a little dumb sometimes. I'm glad he's not the one next in line to lead our pack, I love him but we'd be doomed.

"Okay so I already ordered something were going eat" I say trying to stall. "So what's up with this, you work here now?" Kali asks me looking around the entire place as if she is seeing it for the first time

"Yes I do, have been for the past two days" I say and they just stare at me like im crazy "Why?" Kaze finally asks me looking as confused as ever.

"I wanted to do something with myself, I figured this was the only way I could force myself to meet new people and make new friends. Ive been thinking about doing something like this for a while now and I don't know. . .I felt like this was good start"

"I don't know Kayla isn't this like a huge responsibility, I think you should just focus on school. Besides can't you like party and join clubs or something like other kids our age" "Kali im not asking you for permission I was just telling you so that you can cover for me with dad if need be. And you know partying is not my scene." I suck in a calming breath

"Look. . .please let me do this okay" I almost add that im tired of living in their shadows but decide not to. that will only open a can of worms im not ready to deal with right now. "Look don't take this the bad way, the WereChallenges are starting soon we have to train. You know everyone is going to try and show off that they are the most powerful alpha in this school. We need to win this to show we're the most powerful pack. We need you at your best not tired from serving tables all day, we have a reputation to uphold as the Shadow pack" she smacks her hand on the table looking at Kaze for support but he just shrugs not saying anything.

"Are you saying I'm embarrassing you. . .and the pack?"

"No! God of course that's not what I'm saying it's just. . . How is this going to look for dad and uncle Maddox when the next generation of leaders is busy serving tables" she lets out a breath looking to Kaze for help again then she decides to just continue "and. . .and what about what happened when we left pack grounds. Dad said we weren't safe"

"He never told me that"

"Well I guess. . . He didn't want to worry you about it" she says as if it's not a big deal. The fact that he was not okay telling me But he was okay worrying her about it? That's bullshit. My dad thinks I'm weak that's why he didn't bother telling me anything. I know for a fact he also told Kaze something, it's just me he didn't bother with. Kali takes my hand squeezing it a little bit when she sees the look on my face. "Look I'm not trying to tell you what to do its just. . .I get worried about you. But if this is what you want then I wish you the best. But if you need me to keep my mouth shut about this" she waves her hand around trying to chase the tense energy away"im gonna need a lots of bribes in the form of free food"

"yeah good thinking" Kaze agrees smacking Kali on her head then turns to me and says"were going to need free food sis"

"you don't have anything to say about this, just that you want food?" I ask and try to hide the hurt in my voice. I should be glad that he doesn't try to tell me what to do but it kind of feels like he doesn't care at all and that hurts. "well they won't be free because ill pay for them. In fact you can start calling me your sugar mommie"

"that was weird as fuck bruhh" Kali laughs

"it was, I'm sorry" I agree.

"so will you be getting paid big bucks or something, I thought you'll be reluctant to buy us food everyday"

"first of all I didn't agree to buy you food everyday, only once in a while. Secondly the money I get paid is not even enough to make a living out of, it sucks that some people only have it to survive" I will probably be donating the money since I really don't need it. My dad already sends me enough for everything I need.
