Chapter 4 BETRAYALS

He arrived home earlier today, and sure Fiona wouldn't still react to it in a good manner, but he had been busy all day, looking for a grand gift for her 28th birthday.

He had saved up some money from the few drops of notes given to him by the first set of customers at his former workplace, although several others treated him with contempt.

"Hey, babe! How do you do? He asked while staring at Fiona, his hands reaching for her waist, she hit his hands with her fingers.

" You don't seem to be happy, what's making you look moody" Romsey asked, spreading his palms towards her direction.

"I have a surprise for you, he quickly added, reaching for his pocket, he had purchased a flower for her, but that was not the grandest thing about it, he had also gotten something strange but expensive from a kind woman at work.

"Let me show you something else, "putting on a little smile on his face, "Someone gave this to me at my friend's office, I feel you should have it", he pointed a wrapped card to her.

But as he was yet to complete his words Fiona quickly turned to look back at him, the smirk on her face revealing how unconcerned she was about anything that had to do with Romsey.

"I don't have anything to say to you, I am sick and tired of you, and I mean every single word I say, I'm tired of your petty gifts, you're so broke and poor!". she said, unknown to her and Romsey that the black card in Romsey's hands had several amounts of money linked to it, an asset from a rich and powerful lady, the daughter of the 3rd richest man in Canada.

Romsey knew he would face these complaints at home, it has always been this way every day.

"You're giving me another ring? The first cheap one you got as our wedding ring is faded, I wouldn't know if you think of me as being "Lord of the rings!" she screamed, one could feel the bitterness in her voice.

"Look babe, I'm doing all I can to make sure that I give you the best things in life". "I understand your fears and would do anything to prove to you that I am man enough" he added, his quivering voice could show how exhausted he was.

"Is there anything to eat? He asked.

"Yeah, why not just walk to the dining table to fetch something for yourself" Fiona barked back while returning to the bedroom.

Romsey quickly shoves off his shirt, moves close to the table, and finds out that it is already arranged, he reaches for the water basin, and dips his hands, he can feel the coldness in it, he closes his eyes for some seconds. A feeling of calmness surges into him. He was so hungry and exhausted.

He lifted the lid of the plate, expecting to be greeted by the delicious aroma of food. Instead, he was met with emptiness. Confusion clouded his face, swiftly replaced by shock.

"What is this?" he muttered, his voice tinged with disbelief.

"Fiona! Fiona!" His cry filled the room as he sprang from his chair, his heart pounding with a mixture of fear and bewilderment. He hurried to the room, his steps quickening with each stride. With trembling hands, he pushed open the door, bracing himself to question her.

But as he entered the room, his eyes widened in disbelief, hoping it was all a mirage. The sight before him was all too real-Fiona, in the arms of a man he had once trusted and introduced her to, his tongue buried in between her legs.

She emerged from the covers, her expression a mix of annoyance and defiance.

"How dare you barge in here like this?" Her voice dripped with anger as she confronted him. "Didn't you see your ring inside the plate on the table? Didn't you check underneath to find the divorce papers? That should have been enough for you to understand that it's over between us!!.

Romsey's heart shattered into a million pieces as he realized the depth of her betrayal. Pain etched across his face, mirroring the anguish in his heart as he stood there staring at the woman he had married. She felt no remorse for her actions.

He felt like the world had turned empty. Pain swirled inside him, turning into anger that made it hard to breathe.

"Get out and don't come back," she said, her voice sounding firmer. "Sign the divorce papers on the desk. I can't settle with a poor boy in exchange for a man, you're just too poor for my liking. I'm sick and tired of being in a marriage with a dry and poor brat like you" she rained abusive words on Romsey.

He looked at Fiona, but she showed no remorse, just coldness. "You think I'm too poor for you," he said, his words sharp. "Can you please allow me to prove to you that.. " he didn't finish the words when a man coughed.

Turning to Mr. Lucas, Romsey saw him sitting comfortably on the bed, indifferent. Lucas didn't even glance up from his phone, showing no care for the pain he caused. Romsey moved toward him, ready to confront the man who betrayed him.

"Mr. Lucas!" Romsey called out, his voice tinged with disbelief and hurt.

Lucas raised his head slowly, a smug expression playing on his face.

"Broke men deserve no loyalty. I offered you a job in my company. I'm the head there, and no one can question me," he boasted, the pride evident in his voice as he looked down on Romsey.

"So you employed me to dump garbage in your office, just to humiliate me like this?" Romsey's voice cracked with shame, his face flushed with embarrassment. It felt as though Lucas was smearing his face with a bucket full of it, each word driving the point home.

Romsey shifted towards Lucas, his eyes brimming with tears, but he held them back. He didn't want to cry in front of Fiona, who was pacing back and forth, ready to attack if he faltered.

Man, you'll need to leave this house right now," Romsey said, his voice trembling but trying to sound brave.

"Leave which house?" Fiona interrupted. Before he could respond, her hand landed on his cheek with a sharp slap. Romsey felt the sting of humiliation and pain spread across his face.

You did what? Romsey asked, his fists tightened as he walked towards her, his heart beating harder.
