Chapter 4 You Are Sisters

When Eliza woke up again, she found herself lying on an incredibly soft bed that seemed to cost a fortune.

Kyson had left.

His affection for her seemed limited, or rather, it wasn't true affection but just a fleeting interest. So, leaving her behind didn't seem like a difficult decision for him.

She was probably in Kyson's villa. She took a moment to look around, taking in the layout, before she got up, bent over to pick up her clothes from the floor, and started getting dressed.

Just as she was putting her clothes back on, a phone rang.

A phone?

Eliza narrowed her eyes and searched quickly.

It wasn't her phone, but it looked the same and even had her SIM card inside.

She noticed someone had accessed her social media account.

Yet, she showed no emotion. Right after the car accident, she had deleted some posts and replaced them with new ones from the same location.

Buzz...

The phone kept buzzing.

The call was from Rhett.

She gave it a cold glance and continued to dress at her own pace.

She didn't pick up the call until he was nearly about to give up.

And as she expected, Rhett was losing his patience. He yelled, "Where are you, Eliza Scott?"

Eliza gazed out at the darkening sky. The night had already fallen.

She remained silent.

Knowing Eliza wasn't one for many words, Rhett said, "Go to the hospital quickly. Makenzie's been injured and requires surgery. You, being her family, need to sign the forms."

Eliza didn't respond.

Misinterpreting her silence for disagreement, Rhett growled, "Eliza, listen up. If Makenzie dies, I'll make sure you go down with her!"

With a heavy heart, Eliza dressed herself fully.

Walking across the room, she felt aches throughout her body.

Kyson had been intense, leaving her completely worn out. Despite rumors of his sole focus on business and disinterest in women, she now questioned their truth.

"You have fifteen minutes, Eliza!" Rhett's voice was a mix of threat and urgency as he ended the call.

Stepping out, she noticed the minimalist design of her surroundings.

The stair's railing painted a soft hue.

Servants moved silently below, their presence barely noticeable.

Eliza made her way down the stairs, leaning on the handrail and limping slightly.

The servants caught sight of her.

One quickly left her tasks to offer assistance. "Be careful."

Eliza was surprised at the servant's attention to detail.

It seemed their boss was just as considerate and meticulous.

The servant missed the look of surprise on Eliza's face.

Just then, Kyson emerged from the dining room, clad in casual clothes. He stood tall and dignified, yet appeared more relaxed at home.

Noticing her, he casually mentioned, "Dinner's ready."

He suggested they dine together.

Perhaps he was pleased with her service in bed.

Regrettably, she had to decline.

Her phone rang once more. Glancing at the caller ID, she then looked toward Kyson before answering.

On the line, Rhett's voice boomed. "Are you trying to kill Makenzie? Get over here quickly!"

"I'm on my way." Eliza realized Kyson was observing her. Subtly, she covered the mouthpiece and averted her gaze, appearing docile as she answered.

Despite her response, the man on the phone remained irate and pressed, "Hurry up! Don't make me hit you!"

With that, he ended the call.

"I'm really sorry, Uncle Kyson. There's something urgent I need to handle. I've got to go," she said with an apology in her voice before she hurried off.

Kyson appeared unfazed by her departure. Once she was gone, he took a moment to send a text to someone at the hospital. Alone at the lengthy dining table, he gazed at the array of appetizing meals in front of him and ate in silence, as was his habit.

The moment Eliza reached the hospital, she noticed Rhett pacing nervously outside Makenzie's room.

He spotted her as she stepped out of the elevator, quickly approached her, and gave her a harsh slap across the face.

The sound of the slap echoed loudly.

Passersby in the hallway couldn't help but stare in shock at the scene unfolding before them.

Eliza felt a ringing in her ears and her cheek began to swell.

Her hair became disheveled, barely concealing the fury in her eyes.

To those familiar with them, it was known that although Rhett always seemed to disapprove of Eliza and treated her poorly, he had never resorted to physical violence against her.

His public display of aggression was bound to raise eyebrows.

Still seething with anger, Rhett glared at her with revulsion and contempt, as though he could barely contain his rage. "You're her sister. Even though the Scott family never accepted her as one of them, she's still your family. You came so late. Do you have any idea how critical her condition is? Were you hoping she'd die so you could claim the family fortune for yourself?"

Eliza momentarily cast her gaze downward, and then lifted her head, her eyes no longer showing the anger from before. Instead, she seemed meeker, almost resigned. With a calmness in her voice, she tried to explain, "I got here as quickly as I could."

But Rhett was far from convinced.

He seized her by the wrist, pulling her along with a sense of urgency and not a hint of gentleness. "Come on, we need to hurry. She needs a blood transfusion from you!"
