Chapter 5 Things Between Husband And Wife

Elyse stared at Adrian like he had gone crazy. "Huh? Live together? What's that supposed to mean? Do you know what you're talking about? Is the some sort of joke or what?

Or have you forgotten about the agreement we had? We said we'd never meet or have anything to do with each other, and now you're suggesting that we should live together. Don't tell me you've fallen in love with me just like that."

Adrian scoffed and said in a deep voice, "Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't have an iota of love for you. I never did, and I never would."

Hearing this, Elyse relaxed her facial expression a little and asked, "Then why are you asking us to live together?"

"It's my grandfather, he's going to visit us soon," Adrian replied sorrowfully. He let out a deep sigh as he shook his head, and then continued, "If he finds us living apart, he'll easily figure out that we had a sham marriage. Which will make him lose his mind and turn every single thing on its head."

Elyse shrugged and said, "That's your problem, not mine. We are never going to live together and that's final."

Adrian raised an eyebrow and sneered, "My problem? Do you need me to remind you why you had to marry me in the first place?"

Elyse paused and swallowed hard as the scene of her hospitalized grandmother begging and urging her to get married to a strange man flashed through her mind.

"Our marriage was forced upon us by your grandmother and my grandfather as a way to forever unite our families because they had known each other for long. Do you really think that if my grandfather finds out that we deceived them, he'll keep it from your grandmother?" Adrian asked with a raised eyebrow.

Elyse bit her lip in frustration and stared at her feet.

As much as she hated to admit it, she knew Adrian's words were nothing but the truth. Once his grandfather found out that the marriage was a sham, her grandmother would surely be informed.

Feeling betrayed, the two old folks would blow everything out of proportion...

Elyse shook her head and opened her eyes wide, refusing to imagine what her grandmother would say to her when she found out.

"I know this isn't something that you want, Elyse, but we have to do all we can to keep our plan away from them so as not to hurt them. We have no option but to live together," Adrian said softly.

Seeing that Elyse was on the verge of agreeing, he continued, "I assure you, even though we'll be living under the same roof, we won't do any of those couples things, okay? I'll stay in my lane and you'll continue to stay in yours."

"Couples things?" Elyse asked with a confused expression on her face.

Adrian smiled mischievously as he rubbed his palms together and said, "You know, that dance between husband and wife on the bed."

Hearing this, Elyse widened her eyes and her face became flushed with red. She took a step towards Adrian and said menacingly, "I swear, if you dare try anything stupid with me, I'll castrate you on that spot!"

Unconsciously, Adrian covered his crotch protectively and took a step back. From the way Elyse had spoken, he had no doubt that she'd carry out her threat if he should step out of line.

With a sigh, Elyse agreed to Adrian's request for them to live together.

With that, Elyse packed up her food stall and then led Adrian to her rented home.

When they entered her room, Adrian frowned as he observed that the place was quite tiny.

How could someone live in such a small space? Even the bathroom in his villa was way bigger! In fact, his pet dog's house was also way bigger than Elyse's home.

"Yeah, I know it's a bit small, I'm sorry for that," Elyse said as she saw that Adrian wasn't a fan of the place.

He was staring at the walls in circles like he was afraid that they'd start moving closer and crush him. She shrugged and continued, "But then, taking into account that you're poor, it should be okay, right?"

Okay? There was nothing okay about this place!

Adrian walked toward the door and said, "Just excuse me for a moment, I need to go out and get some fresh air." The moment he stepped outside, he took out his phone and called Grayson.

When Grayson picked up the call, Adrian said, "Drop whatever you're doing and go and get me an apartment in Maple Apartments now. I expect the keys to be ready in half an hour."

Without even waiting for Grayson to say anything, Adrian hung the call up the moment he finished speaking.

On the other end, Grayson simply stared at the phone in his hand in confusion, wondering what Adrian was up to again. The apartments in Maple Apartments were all quite cheap.

They weren't the kind of property someone of Adrian's standing ought to have anything to do with. What use did he need it for when he had a huge luxurious villa already?

With a shrug, Grayson stood up from his seat and headed out the door to do his job, which was to carry out Adrian's order. Adrian's behavior had always been nothing short of unpredictable and Grayson wasn't about to waste his time thinking about what might have influenced Adrian's latest order.

Back to Adrian, he had entered Elyse's home only to find her cooking spaghetti.

After a very hectic and drama-filled day, she was quite famished.

Adrian was also hungry, but he disliked spaghetti. Just as he was contemplating going out to look for a nearby restaurant, Elyse began to serve the spaghetti. The sweet fragrance of her dish filled the room and made his stomach grumble wildly.

Elyse looked back. "Do you want some?"

Adrian swallowed and replied, "I'm definitely not turning that down." With that, he walked up to Elyse and took the spaghetti from her. Without even bothering to take a seat, he began to eat right away.

The moment the spaghetti entered his mouth, the delicious taste stunned him for a moment. With a smile, he doubled down on it and began to eat rapidly.

Never in his life did he expect he would one day be gobbling down spaghetti by the mouthful.

"Wow, you're quite an impressive cook," Adrian commended as he slowed down for a moment. Even his chef back at his villa couldn't cook spaghetti as well as this.

Aware of just how good her cooking was, Elyse smiled and said with an air of confidence, "Of course, I'm a master when it comes to cooking. In fact, I'm quite sure that I'm the best cook in the whole world."

This remark caused Adrian to feel a little contemptuous. He had just learned a new fact about his wife, she was arrogant!

Sure, her spaghetti was phenomenal, but then, claiming to be the best cook in the world? That was simply too far-fetched and a sign of arrogance.

Among the sectors within the Lambert Group was the catering industry. Armed with his knowledge of the gourmet cuisine prepared by some of the professional chefs they employed, he was quite sure that Elyse could easily meet her match.

"Are you a chef?" Adrian asked suddenly.

"I was once, but not anymore," Elyse replied quietly and looked down at her feet as an unpleasant memory resurfaced in her mind. If it hadn't been for an unfortunate incident three years ago, she would likely have attained the position of head chef at a renowned hotel by now.
