Chapter 2 Chapter 2 Grandpa's death

At the mention of Leah, Mark's eyes flashed with coldness. If she didn't deliberately fawn at his grandma, the current situation wouldn't have been like this.

But now, Mark felt the most sorry for Emily.

He raised his hand and patted Emily on the back with coldness in his eyes. "I won't marry Leah."

Hearing this, Emily smiled. She put her arms around Mark's neck and said, "So can you stay here with me tonight and don't go anywhere, okay?"

At this moment, the driver outside couldn't help knocking at the door.

Mark let him come in.

Then Emily let go of Mark and laid back down.

The driver looked at Mark carefully and finally whispered, "Sir, I got a call from Madame. She said she was waiting for you to go back."

Mark didn't respond, but the atmosphere was depressed again.

Emily gritted her teeth and her hands under the cover tightly held the bed sheet.

"I know."

After a while, Mark replied.

The driver left the ward wisely.

"Have a good rest. I'll come to see you tomorrow."

Biting her lips sightly, Emily said, "She just waited for you for a while. What about me? Don't you care about my life or death? If so, why do you appear in front of me and give me hope?"

Emily was on the verge of breaking down. Her voice was hoarse and dry, making people feel distressed for her.

Mark's knitted brows gradually smoothed down, and there was an apologetic look in his eyes. This time, he took the initiative to hug Emily and comforted her, "Sorry, I'll be here. I won't go anywhere."

After the doctor had bandaged Leah's wound, she sat quietly on the edge of the bed holding her phone and staring out the window.

She didn't dare to call Mark. In the end, she only told the driver to give Mark a message for her.

She didn't even dare to ask Mark where he was.

The snow outside the window was getting heavier. Under the yellowish street lights, the snow was vast, and nothing couldn't be seen.

Leah's heart skipped a beat for no reason as if something was about to happen.

At two o'clock in the morning, her phone buzzed and she answered it in a hurry.

Before she could say anything, she heard a low crying voice from the other end of the line. "Leah, your grandpa is dying. The hospital has informed him of a critical condition. Take Mark to see him for the last time."

Her mother's voice was intermittent and hoarse.

After a short pause, she burst into tears. Leah opened her mouth several times, but couldn't say anything.

She raised her hand to touch her forehead. Tears welled up in her eyes and her hands trembled.

"I'll be right there."

"Wait a minute. Grandpa wants to say something to you."

At a loss, Leah stood by the window, biting her fingers until a weak voice came from the phone.

"Leah..."

"Grandpa, I'm here."

Leah tried her best to control her trembling sound. She saw her pale face reflected in the window.

"Leah, the biggest regret of my life is that I never got to see you get married in a wedding dress."

After saying only one sentence, Leah's grandpa coughed so badly that he couldn't go on talking.

Tears blurred Leah's vision. She covered her mouth, afraid of crying out.

"Grandpa, hold on. I'm coming to see you now. You must wait for me!"

Hung up the phone in a panic, Leah only wrapped up a trench coat and then ran out like crazy, even forgetting the wound on her foot.

On the way to the garage, she kept calling Mark, but there was only a busy tone on the other end of the phone.

She had no choice but to call the driver again.

"Please tell him that my grandpa is seriously ill and wants to see him for the last time. I beg him."

The driver hung up the phone and sighed.

He could only knock on the door again. This time, Mark was a little impatient and said in a more cold voice, "Come in."

When the driver entered the room, he saw that Emily had fallen asleep, but her hands were tightly clasped with the hands of Mark.

"What's the matter?"

"It is Madame..."

As soon as the driver mentioned Leah, Mark interrupted coldly. "I don't want to hear anything about her. Get out."

Thinking of the trembling sound of Leah on the phone, the driver braced himself to continue, "Sir, Madame has something very important..."

"Fuck off!"

The driver was frightened. In spite of all his sympathy for Leah, he dared not speak of it.

"Yes, sir."

After closing the door gently, the driver took a deep breath. It seemed that he couldn't help Madame.

The wind and snow rolled against the windows. Leah's hands holding the steering wheel were still trembling. The Bluetooth-connected screen in the car was still dialing Mark's phone, but there was still no response.

When Leah passed by a wedding dress shop, she slammed on the brake and stumbled to the shop.

Looking at the wedding dress on the model by the window, Leah was stunned. She took out a note from the car, left a number on it, and stuck it on the window. Then without hesitation, she took out a fire extinguisher and threw it at the window.

Although Leah got to the hospital as fast as she could, it took more than half an hour.

Leah's mother Anna was waiting for her in the corridor. When she saw Leah in a wedding dress coming out of the elevator, she was stunned.

The whole body of Leah was trembling with cold, and her lips were a little purple. Her face was very pale.

Her bandaged feet were also frozen to the point of unconsciousness and could only be hidden under the hem of the dress.

Anna looked back but didn't see Mark.

All of a sudden, Anna understood what had happened. Her red and swollen eyes were filled with tears again. She walked forward and held Leah tightly. "To wait for you, your grandpa has been holding his last breath. Go in to see him."

All the people of the Spencer family were guarding the door of the ward, leaving only Leah with Grandpa Spencer.

The old man with gray temples was lying on the bed and had lost consciousness. He didn't struggle to stretch out his hand until Leah called him Grandpa.

Standing beside the bed, Leah tried her best to restrain her emotions. She held back tears, half bent over her body, and buried her face in Grandpa's hands.

"Grandpa, I'm here to see you. I'm wearing a wedding dress. Do you like it?"

"Grandpa, don't leave me alone, please!"

Leah was trembling all over. Tears were flowing from the corners of Grandpa's eyes. Without seeing the appearance of Mark, he had already known that his granddaughter had not been happy in the past three years.

"Leah,"

Grandpa's voice was very weak that Leah hurriedly put her ear close to him and asked, "What did you say, Grandpa?"

"Be yourself... To pursue your own happiness."

As soon as he finished his words, Grandpa took his last breath and dropped his hand.

The instrument began to make a harsh sound, and people outside rushed in, including doctors and nurses, her parents, and the rest of the Spencer family.

Leah's ears were in a mess, and all the sounds were suddenly magnified several times, which made her feel a sting in her eardrum. Someone kept calling out her name, but Leah was still losing her strength. Her sight began to blur and finally, she fainted.

Late on Christmas night, Leah's grandfather passed away.
