Chapter 5 A New Journey

Lara had spent two weeks without any word from her parents, and the lingering feeling of abandonment weighed heavily on her. She couldn't shake off the sadness, and her new family couldn't fathom the reason behind her constant sorrow. They attributed it to her amnesia, her inability to remember her true identity and her family. Nonetheless, they assured her that they were now her family, and they would stand by her until she regained her memory.

Lara felt grateful for their acceptance and patience, despite her struggling to adapt to their food and being unfamiliar with the world she found herself in. Jane, especially, was thrilled to have Lara around, eager to teach her about the many things she didn't yet know.

One morning, Stella knocked on Lara's door. Lara, using her telekinesis, opened the door without approaching it, suddenly realizing she was with a family that didn't recognize her. In a moment of quick thinking, she froze time, positioning herself behind the door to avoid raising any suspicions. Unfreezing time, Lara watched as Stella walked in, perplexed by how Lara had seemingly teleported from the bed to the door. Trying not to dwell on it, Stella insisted on having a talk with Lara.

"Lara, the holidays are over, and Collins and Jane are going back to school today. I was thinking you should join them. Fortunately, I happen to be the principal of Star Teens High School, so I can take care of all the necessary paperwork for your enrollment until you remember who you are. You've already shown signs of recovery to my daughter, and I'm confident that within the next two months, you'll fully remember everything. Then, I can help you transition to your actual school," explained Stella.

"Thank you, Stella. I'll do whatever you think is best," replied Lara.

During the two weeks of staying with her new family, Lara had made an effort to learn certain things on her own, trying to convince them that she was making progress. She shared snippets of memories with Jane and Collins, only mentioning what she could recall. Lara agreed to go to school with them, and hearing about her acceptance brought immense joy to Collins and Jane's hearts. As Lara got ready to accompany them to school that morning, she heard her father's voice calling out to her.

"Lara," Arthur called.

Filled with rushing joy and excitement, Lara responded without even thinking of closing the door, desperate to hear from her parents after two long weeks of silence.

"Father, I'm here," Lara exclaimed.

"Oh, my daughter, forgive me for not speaking to you sooner. I wanted you to get accustomed to Earth first," Arthur explained.

Lara turned towards the wall, noticing it was glowing. She approached it and marveled at the sight of her father appearing before her.

"Oh, Dad, how much I've missed seeing your face," Lara expressed with genuine warmth.

"The feeling is mutual. I hope the humans are treating you well," Arthur inquired.

"Yes, father. They are being kind to me. I'm starting school today, father," Lara shared eagerly.

"School? But you're supposed to be searching for your true love, not attending school. You are a goddess," Arthur replied, somewhat concerned.

"Father..."

Before Lara could continue speaking, Jane walked into the room. Instantly, Lara turned to face her, alerting Arthur to another presence. He swiftly closed the communication portal.

"Who were you talking to on the wall?" Jane asked, her curiosity piqued.

"Oh, that? I was just rehearsing what I'm going to say at school," Lara quickly improvised.

"Okay, if you say so. But it was really odd. I thought you were talking to yourself and going a bit crazy," Jane remarked.

At that moment, Lara couldn't help but smile. Her father, Arthur, had used his powers to make the communication portal sound like Lara's voice to humans, just in case someone overheard their conversation. Unaware of the true reason behind Lara's smile, Jane took her by the hand, urging her to hurry so they wouldn't be late for school.

"Come on, let's get going before we're late," Jane insisted.

Lara followed her, bubbling with excitement. She was about to experience attending school for the very first time in nineteen years.

As Lara stepped out of the house, she marveled at the vibrant colors of the world around her. The sunlight bathed the neighborhood in a warm glow, and the sound of children's laughter echoed in the air. It was a stark contrast to the palace she had grown up in, but she welcomed the change. This was her chance to immerse herself in the human world, to learn, and to find her true love.

As Lara and Jane walked to school, Jane chatted about her favorite subjects and shared stories of her summer adventures. Jane introduced Lara to her friends, who greeted her warmly, accepting her as one of their own. Despite her initial apprehension, Lara felt a sense of belonging, a feeling she had not experienced since she left her world.

In the classroom, Lara listened intently to the lessons, absorbing knowledge like a sponge. She found herself fascinated by the subjects she had never encountered before-mathematics, literature, and science. She eagerly participated in discussions, offering unique perspectives that often left her classmates amazed.

During lunch break, Lara found herself surrounded by curious students, bombarding her with questions. They were intrigued by her amnesia, unknown to them she is an higher being, the mysterious circumstances that brought her to their town. Lara answered their inquiries with a smile, sharing bits and pieces of her journey, carefully omitting the details of her true identity and her celestial origin. The weeks went by, Lara's memory began to slowly return. Fragments of her past seeped into her consciousness, flashes of her celestial realm, her divine responsibilities, and her family's expectations. However, the more Lara immersed herself in the human world, the more she started to question her previous life's limitations and the idea of fulfilling someone else's expectations.

She discovered her passion for painting, expressing her emotions and dreams on canvases. Through her artwork, she weaved tales of the celestial and the earthly, capturing the essence of both worlds.

That sunny afternoon, while lost in her thoughts within the school courtyard, Lara was startled by a touch on her shoulder. It was Steve, a young and handsome guy who had approached her. Unaware of his presence, Lara jumped slightly, her mind still wandering through her own fantasies.

"Forgive me for startling you," Steve apologized sincerely.

Startled but intrigued, Lara replied, "Startled? Oh no, I was merely lost in my own daydreams."

Steve smiled, saying, "Daydreams, huh? I'm beginning to like you even more. I'm Steve, by the way."

Lara raised an eyebrow, retorting playfully, "I suppose I'm not supposed to tell you my name since you already seem to know it."

With a mischievous grin, Steve replied, "Your paintings in the drawing class revealed your name to me."

Amused by his response, Lara chuckled and said, "Well, I see you have a sense of humor."

"Please tell me it's working," Steve added, hoping to elicit another laugh.

Lara laughed again, giving him an encouraging smile.

"Thank the universe, I made you laugh," Steve remarked.

Curious about his mention of the universe, Lara kept her suspicions open to the possibility that Steve might possess a deeper connection to something divine. "Which universe are you thanking?" she inquired.

"Oh, no particular universe," Steve clarified. "I don't really believe in the existence of gods, but your seems to suggest that you believe in a higher realm." Lara's heart sank upon realizing that Steve was neither a god nor a demigod but merely a mortal trying to win her favor. Aware that Jane would be approaching them soon and not wanting her to see her with a guy on her first day at school, Lara made her excuses and left Steve behind, impressed by his admiration for her beauty and elegance. Unfortunately, Jane and Collins happened to arrive just as Lara was leaving. Jane, noticing Steve with Lara, smiled widely, assuming that the rich and famous son of a billionaire was interested in Lara. While walking home with Collins and Jane, Lara shared their conversation, learning more about Steve's background. He wasn't a god or a demigod, but he was the son of a wealthy billionaire. Lara discovered that Steve was often pursued by girls in every school and places he visits, having turned down many of them and only dated a few, which resulted in tumultuous relationships. Realizing that Steve, like her, carried the burden of expectations and preconceived notions due to his wealth, Lara felt a sense of relief. She realized that she wasn't alone in her struggles. Determined to help Steve break free from the constraints of his privileged life, she saw an opportunity to find her own purpose and perhaps even her true Soulmate.

Unbeknownst to her, the "curse" of being wealthy was not a curse at all but rather a blessing in disguise. As Lara navigated this unfamiliar world, her lack of knowledge became the catalyst for a new journey. Her mission was to help Steve liberate himself from the pressures that came with his wealth and, in the process, discover her own true path and her soul's companion.
