Chapter 8 To have lunch

**Fenrir**

I follow Alpha James to a room on the third floor of the house, and it did not go unnoticed by me that it was next to his daughter's room. That irritated me deeply. I was starting to understand the reason he had called me to that place. Minutes later, Ethan enters my room with my luggage, and by the look in his eyes, he had the same thought as I did.

"How's Koda?" he asks after placing my suitcase on the bed.

"Agitated, but not like before. I think I can control him for a while longer," I say, sitting in an armchair.

"I'll ask one of the warriors to stay outside," he says, looking at me intently.

"I think that's a good idea too," I respond, as the last thing I wanted was the Alpha's daughter sneaking into my room at night.

"I'll take care of that. If you need anything, call me," he says, leaving the room. I stand up and open my suitcase. I needed a bath to calm down. While sorting my clothes, I hear a knock on the door. I go to it and open it.

"I thought you might want something to eat, Alpha Fenrir," says Paola, the Alpha's daughter. I see her avert her eyes from me, blushing. If I had eaten anything, I probably would have vomited. I hear Koda growl at her in my mind.

"You thought wrong. Take it back," I say seriously, looking at her face. I see the confusion in her eyes as she understands my words.

"But you need to eat something," she insists.

"My eating habits are none of your concern, miss. Excuse me," I say, slamming the door in her face. I no longer had patience for those games, and I would make that clear during dinner. "Alpha, I'm at your door. Call me if you need anything," says one of the warriors through the mental link. "Thank you, Dante. Just keep the Alpha's daughter away from my door," I tell him. "As you wish, Alpha." I allow myself to sleep a little, something I hadn't been able to do the night before. I feel Koda angry with me, but he calms down when I say I couldn't let him out if I was tired.

I wake up late to a knock on my door. I get up and open it, a bit reluctantly, but relax when I see Ethan outside.

"What's with the face?" he asks, entering. I close the door and start choosing clothes to take a shower.

"I slept. Koda calmed down," I tell him.

"That's good, you really needed to rest," he says. "I'll wait for you outside."

As soon as Ethan leaves, I enter the bathroom and take a quick shower. I wanted to sort out my situation there quickly so that I could leave that place tomorrow. I put on my jeans and a white shirt that left my arms exposed. I slip on my shoes and go downstairs with Ethan. As soon as I spot Alpha James, I feel Koda stirring inside me.

"Sorry for delaying your dinner. I had a tough night yesterday, didn't realize I was so tired," I tell him.

"Don't worry, Alpha Fenrir. I know how exhausting the journey here can be," he responds, leading us to the dining room.

"I confess I'm curious about your invitation," I say, approaching. When I see he was going to seat me next to his daughter, I quickly push Ethan in front of me, switching places. He looks at me angrily, and I just hold back a laugh.

"We can talk about it during dinner," he says, signaling for the food to be served.

The servants enter and serve the food. I look at the various refined dishes in front of me with disgust. I hated people who thought I was so superficial that I cared about food. I serve myself a bit of pasta and dismiss the rest. Even that would be hard to eat.

"Tell me, Alpha James," I call for his attention. "You insisted quite a bit on this meeting."

"Yes. As you know, we are a small pack, but we want to grow more, so I thought you might be interested in cooperation," he says.

I could sense there was much more to his words. There was something he wasn't telling me, and it made me apprehensive. I take a sip of my wine and look firmly into his eyes.

"Please, be direct. I don't like beating around the bush," I see the surprise on his face at my harsher tone, something that didn't go unnoticed by Ethan, who gave me a warning look.

"Alright. I don't like beating around the bush when it comes to business either," he says, setting his utensils aside.

"So, speak," I say more calmly.

"I know you don't have a mate yet, Alpha Fenrir," I feel my jaw clench in anger at his words. "My daughter doesn't either. I'd like to know if we can form a partnership through your mating with my daughter."

I feel Ethan's foot nudging me under the table, and I knew he had sensed my anger spreading. That was a subject that even in my own pack people were careful to mention, but there was James, openly challenging me, as if his life didn't matter. Koda stirred inside me, wanting to come out, and I knew if that happened, there would be a bloodbath. Trying to ignore him, I grab the glass and take another sip of wine before turning to him.

"I'd like to know who told you I'm looking for a chosen mate?" I ask him harshly.

"No one told me, Alpha Fenrir, but I've been hearing some things, so I thought I could help you with that," he says.

"I guarantee I could be an excellent mate, Alpha Fenrir. Daddy taught me well all these years," she says, smiling.

I feel my claws emerging under the table, the desire to slit James's throat increasing with every second I looked at his face.
