Chapter 7 Rear-Ended

Carly gathered her thoughts, gently wiping her mother's face while muttering.

"Mom, I visited Grandpa's and Grandma's tombs today. I brought them their favorite sweets and flowers."

"Mom, it's only a bit more than a month until I finish college. After that, I can take back control of the Sullivan Group..."

"Mom, I hope you'll recover soon..."

Her voice grew quieter, filled with the beginnings of tears.

After a moment, she embraced the sleeping Lindsey, left some instructions for the caregiver, and left the room with heavy steps.

In the elevator, she bumped into Lindsey's doctor.

Austin Barrett, a young and promising doctor, led the neurology department despite being under thirty.

Seeing Carly's tear-stained face, Austin's expression softened, then he quickly shared some hopeful news.

"Carly, you're just in time. I've been meaning to talk to you. I recently attended a seminar overseas and met a top neuroscientist. He might be able to help your mother. Let me give you his contact."

Once Carly got Dr. Patrick Charles' number, she called him immediately.

His assistant answered, explaining that Dr. Charles had just begun his vacation and wouldn't return for a month.

Carly was disappointed but still held onto a bit of hope.

On her way home, she couldn't shake off a feeling of excitement.

She strongly believed that Dr. Charles could make a difference in her mother's health.

Lost in her thoughts, Carly missed the moment the traffic light turned green. The cars behind her, growing impatient, honked loudly.

Caught off guard, she hit the gas and accidentally bumped into the car in front.

Feeling a bit dizzy, Carly massaged her forehead and eyed the luxury sports car she had hit, its unique license plate standing out. Anxiety washed over her.

The car looked costly, and fixing even a taillight seemed like it would run into the hundreds of thousands.

To make matters worse, her car insurance had just expired, and she had forgotten to renew it.

Carly tried to reassure herself. People with such fancy cars often had money to spare and liked to flaunt their wealth.

She thought a smile and a polite apology might reduce the financial blow.

Holding onto that thought, Carly gathered her nerves and stepped out to approach the other driver.

Meanwhile, inside the sports car, Kristian was in the middle of a call when the sudden crash cut him off. His expression turned sour.

Cormac, panicking, hurriedly said, "This wasn't my doing! We were hit by the car behind us, just like that!"

Kristian motioned for him to shut up, and Cormac let out a sigh of relief, gesturing okay with his hand.

"Got it, Patrick. I'm on it right away."

After hanging up, Kristian glanced through the rearview mirror and caught sight of a worried expression.

He squinted his eyes and a smirk appeared on his lips. He gestured for Cormac to stay put, just as he was about to leave the car.

Puzzled, Cormac looked where Kristian was looking and then it clicked.

At the same time, Carly tapped on the car window, her voice gentle. "Hey, I'm so sorry. Could you forgive me? I'm just a student."

As the window rolled down, Kristian said in a playful tone, "Oh, you're not planning to cover the repair costs?"

Carly stared, stunned. Why did she always have such bad luck?

It was him again!

Kristian stepped out of the car and quickly checked the back. "So, Miss Student, do you have ten million?" he asked so calmly, it was as if he was inquiring about her homework.

Carly stuttered, "Ten million?!"

She realized he was trying to corner her.

Just then, Cormac chimed in, "Erm, this is a Pagani Huayra. It's super rare, only three in the whole world, worth more than a hundred million..."

Carly's heart sank. Who would even buy a car that pricey?

Kristian's voice dropped, his tone full of teasing. "Well, considering that we slept..."
