Chapter 6 Corinne Was Pregnant

"It's regarding the divorce." Corinne's tone took on a sudden urgency.

Julian regarded her coldly, lips pursed, awaiting her next words.

"I'm willing to proceed with the divorce, but on one condition-you must provide me with fifty million."

Corinne acknowledged the unorthodox nature of her request, but to safeguard her father's estate, she saw no alternative.

"What makes you think you're worth such a sum?" Julian sneered at her, as if amused by her audacity.

Corinne tightened her grip, her resolve unwavering. "I may not inherently warrant such a price, Mr. Scott, but your unmarried status holds that value."

Julian studied her delicate features, her eyes betraying both determination and defiance. He was momentarily caught off guard. Had she not demanded fifty million, he might have truly believed this woman was somewhat unique.

Yet here she stood, seemingly a mere fortune-seeker, willing to trade her marriage for wealth.

Though she might not be deserving of this sum, the woman he intended to marry awaited him. He couldn't marry her if he was married.

Julian offered a cold smile. "Very well, but concerning my mother..."

Corinne understood his implication. "I'll help you keep it under wraps until her health stabilizes. Afterwards, I'll take full responsibility."

A flicker passed through Julian's dark eyes, then he nodded.

"First, accompany me to see my mother, and bring your identification documents."

"What about the money?" Corinne trailed off, hesitating.

Julian was overcome with a surge of revulsion. "Do you doubt my sincerity? Provide your account details. I'll transfer the funds immediately."

In short order, Corinne received fifty million dollars from Julian and uttered a simple "Thank you."

However, Julian didn't dignify her with a second look.

She was aware that Julian viewed her as a shallow gold-digger, but it didn't bother her. She didn't care.

She was solely focused on the well-being of the Gibson family and her father.

As for Julian's perception of her, it held no significance to her.

Shortly thereafter, Julian escorted Corinne to visit Zoey. Despite Zoey's still pallid complexion, Corinne noticed her efforts to mask her illness with meticulous grooming.

Corinne attended to Zoey's needs for a period. Observing a slight improvement in the couple's rapport, Zoey drifted into a peaceful slumber.

Exiting the hospital, Corinne climbed into Julian's car.

Upon entering, she detected a peculiar scent that induced slight dizziness.

It puzzled her, as she had never been susceptible to car sickness before.

However, since her confinement, her body had grown increasingly sensitive, frequently triggering waves of nausea.

The car accelerated swiftly, enveloping them in silence throughout the journey.

Julian's evident reluctance to engage in conversation prompted Corinne to remain reticent. Nonetheless, the persistent discomfort gnawed at her abdomen, compelling her to shut her eyes in an attempt to find respite from the disquieting sensations coursing through her body.

Her breath quickened, and she finally retched after a sudden brake.

Julian regarded her with a cold gaze and asked, "Are you feeling carsick?"

Corinne's complexion paled as she clutched her stomach, discomfort evident. She shook her head and murmured, "Not car sickness, but I feel nauseous."

Julian's expression hardened visibly. "Don't vomit," he warned icily. "If you do, I'll make you get out."

Corinne felt a pang of distress, but the churning in her stomach only compounded her misery. Clutching onto the nearby handle, she appeared unusually pale. The nausea intensified, and unable to endure it any longer, she struggled to speak. "Could you please take me to the hospital?"

Julian furrowed his brow, regarding her frighteningly pallid complexion with a cold stare. "We'll go to the hospital. Corinne, I hope you're not trying to deceive me."

Corinne forced a bitter smile.

Without delay, the driver altered course, swiftly propelling the car toward the hospital.

Corinne was promptly admitted for examination, and within half an hour, the results were available.

Corinne sat in a chair, surprised to find Julian by her side. The doctor glanced at the report and delivered unexpected news. "Ms. Gibson, you're not experiencing a stomach problem. You're pregnant."
