Chapter 5 Being Pranked

When Emma followed the source of the noise, she saw a stern-faced maid barging in.

"The butler asked me to inform you that it's time for Kyson to have dinner. You are to deliver the meal," the maid said in a tone filled with hostility.

Emma hung up the phone and replied in a clipped tone, "Understood."

Noticing Emma's indifferent attitude, the maid bristled with irritation. She couldn't help but say, "What's with the attitude? I'm Bruce's nanny, Hallie. I practically raised him. He is only fond of me. I advise you to give up."

"Mm-hmm," Emma responded nonchalantly. She pulled a mini-player from her pocket and connected it to the computer before typing away on the keyboard.

Figuring that Emma wouldn't stay for long, Hallie saw no point in wasting her time. With a disdainful snort, she turned on her heel and strode off.

Meanwhile, Emma sent a message to her subordinate. It read, "No need to worry. My tracks are covered. I've left them a little surprise."

She then disconnected the player from the computer and stashed it inside the toy Kyson had thrown out. With everything prepared, she left the room, the toy in hand.

Meanwhile, Ricky, who had been anxiously awaiting news, finally received a call from Preston.

"The location was a false lead. It's just a wasteland with no sign of anyone."

"What?" When Ricky was about to ask for more details, he heard Bruce's sudden exclamation.

"Damn it! What's happening here?"

Bruce scrambled to unplug the power cable, but it was too late. The computer screen turned black all of a sudden. After that, a looming clown pattern appeared, accompanied by a jarring "surprise" sound.

Ricky's expression darkened when he realized that he had been pranked.

"How foolish of me to think I could track K!" Bruce lamented, his spirits deflated. "All of the data in my computer has been wiped. I need to salvage what I can. We will talk later."

With that, Bruce left in a hurry with his computer in hand.

Ricky made no move to stop him. Frustration gnawed at him.

Outside, a commotion pierced through the air, worsening Ricky's already frayed nerves.

Maneuvering his wheelchair, Ricky made his way out of the study. There, he saw a small crowd gathered around Kyson's door, evidently intrigued by something.

When she saw him, Hallie ceased her banter and hurried to explain, "Sir, it's Miss Bradley. She is determined to coax Kyson out of his room with a toy. She is giving it a shot right now."

Ricky's expression darkened when he heard this.

He maneuvered the wheelchair forward, guiding it with precision. Several servants who were watching the spectacle quickly cleared a path upon seeing him. As Ricky approached, he saw Emma squatting by the room's door, holding a toy.

But Emma remained oblivious to Ricky's arrival.

Ignoring the derisive murmurs around her, she focused solely on her plan. Taking out the toy, she put it by the door and activated a switch. Suddenly, it started emitting a strange insect-like noise.

"What is she up to?" A wave of laughter rippled through the crowd. "Is she out of her mind? How could that possibly work?"

"Mr. Johnson clearly doesn't like her. He even resorted to assigning her the role of a nanny in an attempt to push her away. How could she possibly want to stay here? She's even employing such a foolish tactic. She is really going to great lengths to ingratiate herself with the Johnsons."

"If I were her, I would have left long ago."

Watching the scene unfold, Ricky's embarrassment deepened. Unable to contain himself any longer, he barked, "That's enough!"

Upon hearing his voice, a hush fell over the corridor, silencing every conversation.

However, Emma wasn't afraid of him. With a subtle raise of her chin, she shot him a pointed glance, her index finger pressed gently against her lips, silently urging him to keep quiet and not disrupt her.

Ricky fought back a laugh. What on earth was this woman planning to do to his son?

He suddenly decided that he didn't want to give her a day. With steely resolve, he commanded, "Leave. Now!"

Before the echo of his words had fully faded, a faint sound caught his attention. It was a sound he knew all too well, causing him to whip his head around to look at Kyson's room with disbelief written across his features.

Ricky watched as the door slowly swung open.
