Chapter 2 Touched me in the dark

"Mis-mister Sh-aw-n." I said, it was unbelievable.

"What are you doing?." I asked him even though I already knew the answer, I was still going to ask because the truth was scary and bitter, I would rather choose to wake up in a manhole than to wake up to this.

"Aren't you my wife?." Mr Shawn asked me and he turned me around to lay me on my belly, he pinned me once again in that position.

It was until the drops of tears slipped past my eyes that I realized I was crying. I mentally slapped myself for letting Mr Shawn hear me cry.

He undid the lace rope that held my night gown and he turned me around again like I was a mannequin he was undressing.

My eyes were closed because even if they were open, they would be useless in the pitch dark room. His hard hands held my left breast, I froze...

I felt his hand caress them and I started whimpering in his hold.

"Please, I'm not ready to do this..." I pleaded to him.

THUD!

It was the sound of the closing door, I opened my eyes in confusion. I felt nobody, I did not hear any noises, I ran to the light switch and turned on the light, the room was empty.

"He left."

The only evidence that Mr Shawn was in my room that night was the trouser he had left on my bed.

IT WAS MORNING

I was sitting in the dining table, chefs and house keepers had appeared out of no where and they had whisped me a mouth pleasing breakfast.

My spoon fell from my hand when I saw Mr Shawn walking down the stairs. He was wearing a beige coloured three piece suit. He turned to look at me, his eyes gave no hint of what he had done last night... To be precise what he had tried to do.

"Good morning." I tell him, once again he did not reply to my greeting, he takes a seat in front of me. One of the maids brought him a cup of black coffee and as I watched him drink it, I was compelled to ask him series of questions.

My tongue was tied, he left in his expensive car.

BY NOON, all the maids, cooks and house keepers had cleared away like fog and I remained alone, this time fearful than the last time.

The next time I saw Mr Shawn again was in the EVENING when he arrived in a different car that was still fancy. A lady wearing a mini red dress climbed down from the car with him, I was in the living room when they walked past me as if I was a piece of furniture.

"Is that your wife?." The lady asked Mr Shawn.

"Yes." He replied her, simply.

I wondered where he was going with her, did they have an Important meeting together, were they going to review some documents?.

I climbed the stairs and I went to Mr Shawn's room, I did not want to knock because I was scared, I just stood in front of his bedroom.

I did not hear a thing, so I went ahead to rest my head against the door, I was so invested in trying to get out information that I did not see the both of them coming out of his office with the corner of my eye until they both caught me trying to catch them.

My face was coloured with embarrassment.

"Leave!." Mr Shawn ordered me.

I stumbled as I tried to take my first step.

"Mooch." The lady bickered.

Mr Shawn did not care if I was standing in the hallway, he pushed the door to his bedroom wide open and they both entered.

BANG!

They shut the door and after a few moments, I heard moanings. I covered a scream from erupting out of my mouth with both my hands.

I stood there hearing my husband pounding into another woman. I felt sick, I ran to my bathroom and forced my head under the tap.

Is this what betrayal felt like?.

I searched for my phone in my bag and I dialed my aunt.

I narrated everything to her.

"Huh?!." I asked after I heard her first reply.

"We can't return the money back to him because we already bought a house and a car. There is no way we can help you, you should have asked your parents to be better people!." My aunt said in a flat tone before ending the call.

"I own you, now don't you dare ignore me when I speak to you." Mr Shawn said holding my chin so that our eyes were locked in a fierce staring battle. "I'm not going to ask you again, I'm hungry, prepare dinner for me and my lovely guest." Mr Shawn said to me.

" Go on, or are your legs tied?!." Mr Shawn's mistress asked me in a voice that screamed 'gold digger'.

"I'm not your maid!." I declared. I was at the verge of tears, if I took one more suck of oxygen, the tears would fall, they would never see me cry, I held in my breath and I balled my fists at my side.

"What?." Mr Shawn asked me. He was standing very close to me, his body was shrewd and intimidating, I was so fragile and small compared to him but I would not be thrown around like a worthless piece of trash.

First he disrespects me by having sex with this woman in a room across from mine and now he ordered me to cook them a meal.

"Seems like you're not being hard on your little wife. She has balls!." The lady said with a cat like glare towards me.

I know that I am worth not even a few hundred dollars, I know that my parents were paupers and they had to beg money from people just to feed me... But one thing I am certain is that I would rather be given a divorce and walk away from here with nothing, than to enter into the kitchen to prepare them a meal.

"Emmaline, go up to your room and wait for me." Mr Shawn said to me, those were probably the longest word he had ever said to me and the coldest, I could reach my hand forward and touch the thick wall of ice the words had created.

"But I have not had dinner yet..." I said to him, I only had breakfast and it's pretty late, I'm starving. I could feel the tightness in my stomach.

"No dinner for you!." He said to me.

My legs were as feeble as boiled pasta, I took one step and the ground shook from under my feet. I tried not to stumble,

' they would not laugh at me, I would not let them'... I said to myself as I walked forward to my bedroom waiting for the worst to happen.
