Was Lake taken to the ICU?

Debby was taken aback. She quickly asked, "What happened? Give me the details!"

"I don't have all the information. I heard he crossed some gangsters." Recalling the distressing condition in which Lake was described on the phone, the maid couldn't help but shudder. "This is awful. Their methods are so... How did Lake manage to provoke those individuals?"

Upon hearing the maid's words, Debby was oddly reminded of what Norah had said earlier after she had revealed Lake's name.

"The servant, Lake Powell? Thank you for the information. I'll offer you a gift as a token of appreciation for your diligent efforts on my behalf." Norah wore a smile, but her eyes were icy, and an air of cold intensity surrounded her.

At that moment, Debby had instinctively avoided Norah's gaze, feeling an unexpected fear.

She couldn't believe that the country girl was more intimidating than any high society person she had met.

Debby shivered. Could Norah have been responsible for Lake's condition?

No, that couldn't be right! Debby quickly dismissed the thought.

Norah was a simple country girl, and Debby was sure she could handle Norah easily. How could Norah be connected to the underworld?

The maid sensed Debby's discomfort and cautiously suggested, "Miss Chase, Lake was known for gambling. Maybe he got into debt with loan sharks."

Debby's eyes lit up. That made sense. That must be it! Why didn't she consider this?

Relieved to have a plausible explanation, Debby exhaled and said, "I understand now."

"Miss Chase, are you planning to visit the hospital and see him?" the maid asked.

Debby grimaced in distaste. "He's just a servant. Don't bother about him."

He was just a worthless nuisance, unworthy of her attention.

What mattered now was dealing with the country girl joining Chase Group tomorrow. Debby was determined to get rid of that irritating newcomer.

The following morning, Norah got an update from Charlotte.

"I've dealt with Lake for you. He confessed everything. It was Debby who instructed him to go to your room. However, upon his arrival, he discovered that someone had already been there. He feared facing Debby's blame for failing to fulfill the assignment. Hence, he made a hasty escape without getting a clear look at the person."

Charlotte then sent Norah detailed information about the three young men of the Chase family.

"I see, thank you." After her response, Norah opened the document and delved into its contents.

The information proved more comprehensive than she had anticipated. Alongside the basic photos and profiles, it provided in-depth accounts of their upbringing, work history, and romantic encounters.

What struck Norah most was the Chase family dynamics. Jansen and Simon were Kristine's biological sons. Darren, however, was born out of wedlock and didn't formally become part of the Chase family until he reached the age of ten.

Recalling Kristine's disdain for Darren the previous day, Norah started to piece things together.

Darren's status as the illegitimate son was no secret within the Chase family, and his reputation extended beyond its confines. He was known for his nocturnal revelry and lack of business pursuits, earning him a reputation as a prodigal among the affluent youth. Consequently, Darren held no significant role in Chase Group.

"Miss Bector, the car is ready downstairs. It's time for you to head to the company." At that moment, a servant knocked on the door, breaking Norah's concentration.

Norah packed up the documents, quickly freshened up, and headed downstairs. The moment she stepped outside the Chase family residence, she was greeted by a lineup of luxury cars parked at the entrance.

Instinctively, she headed for the Maybach at the front.

She had grown accustomed to the finest things and a life of extravagance. Her vehicle was consistently top-of-the-line. Although a Maybach was nothing extraordinary to her, it was the best amidst the cars here.

As she approached the Maybach's door, ready to step in, Debby, who had suddenly appeared behind her, forcefully pushed Norah aside.

"This isn't a car you're getting into." Debby fixed her gaze on Norah and directed her finger toward the modest gray Porsche Cayenne amidst the cars. "A country bumpkin like you would tarnish Jansen's car. Head over and hop into that one. A rural girl like you should ride with the illegitimate son's car."
