Chapter 4 FOUR.

Amy rushed into the library, Mrs Peters was having a conversation with another lady so she quietly went to her post having a silent prayer on her lips. "Traffic again?" Mrs Peters called up to her and Amy gave an awkward smile. "I will make sure to arrange all the books accordingly today" The older woman smiled and continued her conversation while Amy quickly made a sign of the cross, she didn't get a scolding like she thought and that made her want to give a good laugh to that man she met earlier.

Speaking of that man, why did he look so handsome? The beeping of her phone made her jolt back to reality and when she saw the caller ID, she smiled seeing it was her brother. She hastily pressed the receive button and placed the phone on her ears, " why have you called Rome?I have reached the library and i packed my lunch" But instead of her brother to answer, all she could hear was the sound of someone crying and sniffing. "Rome?" Amy called her, her heart was already beating fast, "what happened and why are you quiet?" "Sis" he finally spoke from the other end, " mum collapsed and was rushed to the hospital" Amy felt her world come to a standstill, her mum collapsed?but she was alright this morning when she left right? "Which hospital?" She asked frantically, trying hard to stop the tears. " west side" "Okay, I am coming" She immediately disconnected the call and rushed towards Mrs Peters, a tear welled down her eyes. "What happened Amy?Why are you crying?" The lady asked in a concerned tone. This was the first time she was ever seeing tears in the eyes of this bubbly. "My....mum....mum is in the hospital" "Oh my gosh, what happened?" "I don't know Mrs peters, Rome just called me" her voice was quivering and her eyes were filled with tears and fear. "Relax okay Amy, she will be fine okay. Once I get off work, I will come over" "Thank you ma" Amy practically ran out of the door before boarding her scooter and zoomed off. The ride to the west side was a fast one and she reached it after twenty minutes, luckily her brother was standing by the hospital door when she arrived. "Where is mum?" Amy asked immediately. "She is in the theatre, father asked me to wait here and bring you up" Rome answered in a downcast voice, his eyes were also puffy and red. "What did the doctor say?" "Nothing for now, they are still in the theatre" They both took the elevator to the fifth floor and saw her father who was sitting on one of the chairs and he looked so sad. The kids' hearts broke seeing their father like that. "Dad" Amy called in a low voice as she went to sit beside him. "Your mother is still in surgery my dear" Mr Winston said as he held onto his daughter's hand. Just as Amy opened her mouth to say something, the door opened and a group of doctors filed out. While the rest walked away in the opposite direction, the one who seemed to be the leader walked towards them. "How is she, doctor?" Rome asked immediately. "The patient has a weak heart and that is what caused her to collapse" "What?" Amy muttered in shock. "Now we have stabilized her but we can't guarantee that, I suggest she is operated on soonest" "How do you mean doctor?" Mr Winston asked frantically. "She needs a heart transplant and that too very soon, she doesn't have much time left" "But how can we get one?" It was Amy who asked. "You are very lucky, the hospital just received a donation of two hearts today and I believe one of them is a match for her" "Thank goodness" Amy muttered under her breath, she was finally relaxed. "How much will this cost?" "About $200,000" Mr Winston's eyes opened wide, how will they be able to afford that kind of money?" "Doctor, it is so expensive" Rome clamoured as he held onto his sister's shoulder. "It is a very expensive surgery sir. You have to make a decision fast because the surgeon who will perform the surgery is not from this hospital, we have to tell him in advance Incase he will be indulged. You make your decision soon, then" he bowed slowly and made to walk away but Amy held him back. "How long until the surgery, doctor?" "At most, a week" he answered and finally walked away. The family sunk into despair, even if they joined all their savings or even sold most of their properties, they wouldn't be able to come up with such an amount of money. "What are we going to do now?" Mr Winston sat back on the chair as his eyes turned misty. Moments like this made him feel less of a man. "Don't worry dad" Amy cajoled, "we will come up with the money somehow" "That is a very large amount of money," Rome added. "We will find it somehow" Amy said again, " the doctor said mum is awake, let's check on her and we shouldn't tell her what happened. We don't want to aggravate the situation the more" Cleaning the tears from her brother's face, the trio made their way to her room. ................................................................................................................................................. Adonis who was sitting lazily in his office finally looked up when his door creaked open and he was not disappointed to see zeth by the door. While the latter looked as cold as always, the former looked dead as always. "Why are you waiting for me?" Zeke asked as he made himself comfortable. "Seeing how fast you came back from country M, I could say the same thing for you" a smile was playing at the edge of his lips. "I have asked seth and zeke to go back" zeth said after a while and waited for the man in front of him to say something or even have a kind of expression on his face but he just sat there like nothing mattered. The two of them were quiet while looking at each other, it was not so surprising because the two of them were like two peas in a pod. The golden intercom sitting beautifully by his side on the table finally rang and the tension between the two of them died down. Sighing like this was his worst nightmare, Adonis picked it up and placed it on his ear. "Speak" "Sir,west side has called. Apparently they want you to help examine a patient with a heart disease" Adonis lazily massaged the space between his brows, his face was still as stoic as ever and he didn't even look interested in the case. "When was the patient brought?" "Just this morning sir" "I will be there in a few minutes"like that he ended the call without waiting for the caller's response. "The moment you enter my office,I have to work now" he raised his brows at zeth who wasn't even fazed. "You are not in the hospital to chill almighty Adonis, now get your ass up and let's move" The man he was talking too didn't even stand up but instead he leaned back on his reclining chair as he placed the tip of his finger near his mouth, "Should I ask Selene to make you go back home permanently?I mean my life was much more better before you barged into it" "Well, I also don't want to be here either. You suck the life out of me" saying that zeths stood up and walked out of the office knowing fully well that he would follow. ...... The instant the two of them stepped into west side, the nurses couldn't stop ogling at the two men that just walked in, the only time they enjoyed the beautiful view of Adonis Chernobog only when they had an emergency at the west side but other days, the female nurses from the main hospital were the ones who had that privilege and the fact that he always came with another pretty man was enough to end their lives. "Welcome doctor" a female nurse walked up to him but when he halted and raised an eyebrow at her, she stopped a few feet away from him and gave an awkward nod. "I was asked to take you to the patient when you arrived" "Lead the way" he ordered. "Yes" she walked towards an elevator and Adonis's countenance changed when he saw that she was going towards the main elevator. Before he opened his mouth to talk, she first him to it. "Sorry sir, you have to use the main elevator for now. The private elevator is under maintenance" "He doesn't have a problem with that," zeth responded on behalf of him. The moment the elevator door opened, he came face to face with a certain someone and a look of interest appeared on his face. What was she doing here?did she also work in the hospital? "Little fox" he muttered to himself but the girl heard him and she looked up to see the man that almost killed her that morning. But the minute he saw her red puffy eyes, his countenance changed again. She was bubbly and lively when he saw her that morning so what happened? "Miss, please can you step out?the doctor would like to use the elevator," the female nurse announced, gesturing to Amy. "I am sorry but I am also in a hurry, everyone of you can fit it. '' she answered immediately, not tearing her gaze from Adonis while zeth stood lazily watching the scene unfold in front of him. "This is an emergency, ma..,,." The nurse tried to talk again but Amy interrupted her. "This is also an emergency and if you will not get in then allow me to go, you can always come later" Her sudden outburst intrigued Adonis and with one step, he entered into the elevator while the nurse and zeth had a "what just happened look" on their faces. Adonis agreed to enter an elevator with someone and especially a lady?It was a first. "Aren't you coming?" He asked zeth. "Of course" Finally the three of them got into the elevator and the one who was more elated was the female nurse. Not only did she enter the same elevator with him, she was even breathing the same air as Adonis chernobog. She could happily die now. Until they reached the floor they were going to, Adonis kept looking at the girl beside him and he couldn't fathom while she was so sad. Did something happen? The "ting" of the elevator door made her immediately rush out without sparing any of them a glance. After all, she already wasted time in getting her mother some food. Following the nurse, the three of them made their way to the room of the patient and the moment the door opened, Amy was surprised to see the pretty man again. Was he following her? "This is the patient sir" Then it dawned on her, he was the doctor to perform her mum's surgery, should she be happy or sad? "Hello sir" Mr Winston immediately greeted. He didn't know but the aura of the two men in the room was just too hard to ignore. Adonis glanced at "the little fox" for a brief moment before turning his attention back on the patient. "When was she diagnosed?" "This morning" the nurse answered He looked over the woman for a while and still glanced at Amy but the lady was looking at her mum. "We have to perform surgery as soon as possible, she has little time left" "The doctor told us a week" Rome chipped in. "We have less than that actually, the heart is in a very bad condition" typical best doctor in the country, "So what should we do sir?" The nurse still asked, "they don't have the money yet" "Can you carry out the surgery then we can pay later?" Amy asked even when she knew it was the lamest thing ever. Which hospital will agree to that? For a while Adonis didn't say anything but his eyes didn't leave the lady standing. She looked so fragile and weak but strong at heart. "Prepare her for surgery, I will foot the bills" Everyone in the room was lost for words, especially zeth, was this truly Adonis or someone pretending to be him?
