Chapter 5 Call Linsey

After hanging up the phone, Bryson headed back to the office for a meeting with the legal team.

Bryson looked around at everyone and casually asked, "So, any luck sorting out the customs issue with our shipment?"

The room was dead silent. Nobody dared to speak up.

That was when Eunice Sutton from the legal team stepped in, trying to ease the tension. "Bryson, please, don't be upset. We've been on this non-stop, but customs are giving us a hard time. We're doing everything we can."

The Higgins Group's legal team had been burning the midnight oil on this tricky case, with countless meetings under their belt. But it was a complicated situation, needing a delicate touch.

Bryson's frustration was clear as he sharply said, "So, none of you can crack this? Then you're not worth what the company is paying you!"

The room went quiet for a moment before someone snapped back, "If we can't figure it out, nobody can!"

They were among the best in the business, and the thought of being outdone was hard to swallow.

Then, Bryson remembered something Linsey had mentioned.

"Check Article 328, Clause 14 of the Customs Administrative Penalty Implementation Regulations."

"Huh?" Eunice, puzzled, looked at Bryson, not sure what he meant.

Bryson seemed impatient, waiting for a specific response.

Without asking further, Eunice quickly grabbed the hefty regulations book, flipped to the page, and then her face lit up. "Wow! I never thought about using this rule. It's a whole new angle!"

She then turned to Bryson, excitement in her voice. "You're a genius, Bryson! Finding a way out like this so fast!"

Bryson didn't say a word. Eunice's reaction made him aware that he might have underestimated Linsey.

"Do you know Linsey Wheeler?" Bryson's voice was low and serious.

"Linsey?" Eunice's face showed a mix of surprise and curiosity.

Why would Bryson mention Linsey?

Eunice, being a lawyer herself, definitely knew who Linsey was. Linsey was a big name in the legal world, famous for her exceptional skills, particularly in non-litigation trade cases.

Among female lawyers, Linsey was often the first name that came to mind, a fact that Eunice found annoying. She always saw Linsey as an imaginary competitor. Now, Bryson's sudden curiosity about Linsey made Eunice wary.

Pretending to be concerned, Eunice said, "Are you talking about the Linsey from Paramountcy Law Firm? People say she's not as good as she seems. They say she cuts corners to win cases. Be careful, Bryson. Don't let her trick you."

Bryson understood Eunice's implication.

If Eunice was aware of it, it meant Linsey had a reputation for sleeping with clients to advance her career.

Despite his caution, Linsey had outmaneuvered him just the night before. Annoyed with himself, Bryson said firmly, "Proceed with the new direction suggested earlier. I'll come for the results tomorrow."

With that, he left without another word.

Eunice slammed her foot down, seething with anger. Earlier, Bryson didn't show any aversion to Linsey, and that set off alarm bells for Eunice.

Hailing from the Sutton family, Eunice joined the Higgins Group just to be near Bryson. He was supposed to have only her by his side!

Burning with jealousy, Eunice quickly got her team to dig up the info Bryson needed. She was determined to keep Linsey away from Bryson.

But as they looked through past similar cases, they saw others had tried this tactic and failed. Eunice was losing hope.

The next day when Bryson inquired, she dared not lie and could only say reluctantly, "I looked into it, and the odds of winning with that special clause are slim. Maybe we should just pay to fix this..."

"Enough!" Bryson cut her off. He was fed up with the incompetence.

With time slipping away and the stakes rising, Bryson felt trapped.

He thought of Linsey and, with no other choice, texted Asher, "I need Linsey's number."

At Paramountcy Law Firm, Linsey was busy with paperwork, ready to take Devin to court for drugging her. She was set on making him regret his misdeeds.

Just then, someone placed a coffee on her desk.

"Drink this, it'll help. You look tired today," a caring voice said.

Linsey glanced up to see Felix Payne, a picture of concern and good looks. His presence brought her a sense of ease. "Thanks, Felix," she said.

Felix had been Linsey's friend since they were kids, always there for her, especially at work.

Linsey decided not to tell him about yesterday's incident regarding Devin. She didn't want to add to his worries and preferred to deal with it herself. She gave a small shake of her head and replied, "I'm okay, just had a rough night's sleep."

Felix's face showed his worry. "You've got to look after yourself, even with all the work stuff."

"Will do." Linsey offered him a comforting smile and sipped her coffee.

Felix, shifting the topic, mentioned the Higgins Group. "Heard about their mess with customs fight? Winning that could boost someone's name in our field. You've done similar stuff, right? Sounds like a big opportunity for you."

Linsey thought about the case. She felt a bit down. Given Bryson's attitude that day, he likely wouldn't let her take the case.

Linsey reassured herself with a light pat on her chest. With Bryson's harsh attitude, working with the Higgins Group didn't seem so appealing.

Before Linsey could dive deeper into conversation with Felix, her phone rang. It was from an unknown number.

"Hello?" Linsey answered.

Bryson's voice echoed on the other side. "You can take the Higgins Group case. When are you free to meet?"
