Chapter 4 What the Hell Is Wrong With You

As tears welled up in her eyes, Celeste cried out pitiably as if she was terribly grieved.

"What the hell is wrong with you!"

Immediately, Richard pushed Alice away forcefully. Then, he shielded Celeste in his arms and looked at her compassionately.

Since Celeste was young, she had already created herself an innocent image. And so, everyone thought that she was a nice girl.

In fact, Alice had also thought the same before this matter happened.

"Alice Maynard, how dare you to attack Cel!" As Richard stared at the red fingerprints on Celeste's face with distress, his face became twisted in anger.

"Slap!"

Using all her strength to slap him across the face, Alice looked at him coldly. "This is to return the slap you gave me earlier. Listen, Richard Rowland. I'm the dominator in this marriage, and I'm the one who can cancel the marriage. So, even if our engagement is canceled, it's not you who dump me. Instead, it's me, Alice Maynard, who dump you!"

Upon hearing her words, Richard was startled. As he gazed at Alice leaving resolutely, he suddenly felt that somewhere in his heart became empty.

"Richard, my face hurts!" Looking at Richard's absent-mindedness as he watched Alice's figure, Celeste became panicked. And so, she quickly acted coquettishly to pull his thoughts back.

"That b*tch!" As he stared at her swollen face, the empty feeling in his heart disappeared in an instant. After that, he hugged Celeste distressingly.

After leaving Richard's house, Alice returned to her apartment and stayed for the whole morning. At noon, she suddenly remembered that she had to send lunch to her mother, who was hospitalized.

Ten years ago, her grandfather passed away. In order to marry Celeste's mother, Lola Turner, her father Stanley Maynard drove them out of the Maynard family. Since then, her mother, Phoebe Dotson, was diagnosed with depression. What's more, she had inherited heart disease. And so, her health was declining day by day after the major blow of divorce.

A year ago, Phoebe's heart disease relapsed, and she was hospitalized. So, Alice dropped out of her studies and started working to pay for Phoebe's treatment. Six months ago, Stanley found her and said that as long as she would return to the Maynard family and marry Richard, he would pay for the high medical expenses needed for Phoebe's treatment.

Therefore, she agreed to return to the Maynard family.

However, she had never expected that such a thing would happen today.

"Phoebe, do you know that your daughter slept with some other men yesterday? Moreover, the two men are pimps. She had a lot of fun last night!"

"Nonsense!"

Walking down the corridor, Alice heard Celeste's sharp voice and Phoebe's angry voice. At once, her heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly ran toward the ward.

"Your dear daughter had an affair with two prostitutes and was found out by Richard. So, she could never get married into the Rowland family now. She's ruined."

"Celeste, who allowed you to come here? Get out immediately!"

Pushing the door open, Alice saw Celeste standing next to Phoebe's bed. With an angry expression on her face, she pushed Celeste vigorously.

With that, Celeste staggered, nearly falling to the ground.

"You're here, Ally. Quick, tell me what Celeste said is not true." Seeing Alice coming in, Phoebe grabbed her hand and uttered hurriedly, her face that was once youthful and beautiful had long ceased after so many things had happened.

"Don't listen to her, Mom."
