Chapter 5 CONOR

Conor's Pov.

I was in my office engrossed in analysing the file I couldn't finish when I heard a loud siren, while I was busy with the filesBryan walked in.

"The governor is around," he said informing me of the governor's arrival.

"I thought as much," I muttered to myself. "Okay, thanks. I will meet him in a second." I spoke, quickly organizing the scattered files on my desk. The governor's unexpected visit required my immediate attention.

Once the files were consolidated, I headed out to welcome Governor Lincoln, and escort him to my office. As I approached, I extended my hand for a handshake

"Good morning, Governor Lincoln. I wasn't expecting you to come so soon" I greeted, stretching my hand for a shake withmy lips graced with a smile. "I was expecting you to come next week."

"Good morning, Mr. Connor. I would have invited you but I decided to come meet you, so you will know how urgent it is," he said, as we shook each other.

I looked at him and asked curiously, "is it about the deal we talked about last two weeks or another one."

"Still the same deal, Mr. Connor," the governor confirmed.

We talked as we head to my office, as we entered my office the governor settles down on the couch flanked two of his bodyguard standing at the door side while three were standing close to him.

"Tell someone to get me two cups of coffees," I instructed.

"Okay sir," Bryan said with a strange look on his face.

"Oo oh, the governor can't do me any harm," I said assuring Bryan.

"Can I use the telephone to inform the secretary to bring the coffees instead?" Bryan said with a look of concern on his face.

"Okay then," I acquiesced. He went straight to the telephone on my desk.

"Let's get to business," the governor urged. "The offer you sent was too much, I choose to award your company the work because I believe in you."

"Exactly you chose us because you believe that we are the best and we will give you something of great quality," I interrupted, "you know higher quality, higher price."

"I understand your point but I want you to understand mine," the governor countered.

Amidst of the negotiation, my female secretaries walked in with a tray of coffees. She reminded me of the lady I met at the supermarket yesterday, my gaze lingered at her.

My mind was clouded of the lady's image, my attention drifted to the moment she was holding my hands.

"Connor, are you even listening to me," the governor said bringing me out of the train of thoughts and imagination.

"Oh, sorry about that," I said shaking off the lingering thought of the lady stocked in my head.

The governor sighed, "let's agree at 6.5 million dollars, so we can call it a day."

"I still stand on my initial offer, which is 7 million dollars," I insisted and took a measured sip of my coffee.

"Still insisting on seven Mr. Connor," he said.

"Well I am not amused, you offer is always fixed, I say we call it day."

"So are you awarding us the project?" I inquired in a soft tone.

"Yes, do I have a choice, I trust you better than any other engineering companies out there," he replied. "let's call it a day."

He stood up, button up his suit jacket and shook me. I embraced him with a hug and escort him to the parking lot where packed his cars.

I head straight to where my black Mercedes was parked and hopped inside it. "Where are we going Mr. Connor?" Bryan queried curiously.

"Get inside the car, I need to reach the supermarket right now," I said.

"What about your driver?" he asked.

"Don't bother him, I will drive. Just get inside and stop asking me question," I said in a commanding tone.

"Okay then, let me drive," he said.

"Can you drive?" I asked.

"Yes sir, I can," he said.

"Do you've your license with you,"

"Always sir," he said as he brought out of his driver license out of his suit jacket's inner pocket.

"Okay then," I said and moved to the seat beside the driver's seat. "Get inside Bryan."

He hopped into the car and asked, "sir, the ignition key."

"It's not with me," I said and paused for a while, "damn it, it's with the driver. Go get the driver."

"Okay sir," he said as he hopped out of the car.

Few minutes later the driver and Bryan entered and we drove off. While we were on our way to the supermarket all I could think of is the lady. I hoped her details were taken; I still don't know how to go about it if she can't be located.

Still can't believe I'm in love. It's because of her I didn't hook up with ladies yesterday. If she comes into my life, I don't see myself flirting with other ladies again because I can't risk losing her. I will do everything to make her happy.

Even the idea of her not accepting me into her life is inconceivable. I'll make sure she's mine regardless of anything else, perceiving that connection is a rare and genuine thing. She is that one thing I never prayed for in my life that makes me happier than all my request from God.
