Chapter 4 The Contract

AMELIA'S POV

"WHAT!!" Sandra and Lucy my two best friends and roommates exclaimed.

I had planned to avoid them this night because I did not want them to hear about what transpired between Arthur and I at the office, but I had the bad luck of Sandra walking in to meet us kissing!

"So, care to explain what I just saw outside?" Sandra asked immediately we entered the house

"What did you see?" Lucy asked Sandra.

"Well, I can't say if my eyes were deceiving me but I know I certainly saw Amelia here kissing some hot guy right at the door step" Sandra explained to Lucy.

"Woww, this is some hot gist and we need to chew something while listening to it" Lucy said going to get popcorn and three can drinks.

Sandra and Lucy has been my friends and roommates since college. We all had our good and bad sides and sometimes we clash but we were each others biggest support system. While Sandra was the crazy one, Lucy was the foodie in the group, while you could say I was the more rational and reasonable member of the group until what happened today did and I began to doubt my own rationality.

"Wait, so you mean to tell us that your blind date you could not get over turned out to be your boss and today you almost lost your virginity to him in the office?" Lucy asked trying to understand what I just told them

"Well, more like gave her virginity, not lost" Sandra corrected.

"Yeah" I replied feeling stupid

"Uh, uh, what a hot steamy day you had" Sandra said laughing.

"Come on Sandy, this is not a joking matter." I said " he is so angry I did not tell him I was a virgin".

"Why" Lucy asked

"I don't know" I said

"No, I mean like, why did you not tell him you are still a virgin and why is he angry you did not tell him" Lucy asked again.

"I still don't know why he is his angry I did not tell him and I don't know why I did not tell him either, in fact I am so confused, I can't even think straight" I said exasperated.

"It's okay babe," Lucy said consoling me

"But what I saw outside was far from anger" Sandra said.

"Well from the outside it looks sweet but truly it was full of anger." Raising the jacket, I continued "Then he said I should return the jacket to him when I close from work tomorrow so as to hear my punishment"

"What!" Sandra and Lucy exclaimed.

"This is serious" Sandra said.

"Am scared girls, what if he fires me?"

"Don't worry, he won't" Lucy said trying to sound hopeful.

I could barely sleep that night. I kept on relieving the events of the day. It was Indeed a long day. When I could finally sleep, I had troubled dreams and woke up at intervals till it was finally dawn.

I lazily dragged myself out of bed. The headache was instant and splitting all thanks to the alcohol I was forced to drink last night to enable me forget my sorrows. I did not feel like going to work today. All I wanted to do was to just curl back on the bed and sleep away my problems, but then I remembered that I will have bigger problems to deal with If I don't show up at work today. And also when I remember the bills I have to pay which I will not be able to pay if I suddenly end up without a job, I motivated myself and entered the bathroom.

When I came out of my room, I met Lucy already eating with her laptop on the table. Lucy is a blogger and a freelancer and so she works from home, while Sandra owns a makeup saloon. On days like this, I wished I was like them who work at their convenience.

"Good morning sleeping beauty" Lucy greeted cheerfully.

"Good morning Lucy" I greeted her back.

"Off to face the devil right?" She asked.

"Do I have a choice?" I asked feeling sad.

"Don't worry babe, you got this and you know, whatever the outcome, we are always here for you." Lucy encouraged me.

"I know" I said and forced a smile.

"Go break a leg girl." Sandra shouted from her room window as I came outside.

"I intend to break both." I shouted back laughing genuinely.

My trepidation grew as I walked into my office. Immediately I noticed he was in, my confidence disappeared. The whole day went like a blur. I could not say I understood or even remembered anything that occurred all through the day. My mind was more fixed on what was to come.

And to give him credit, he never acted like anything happened or was happening or even about to happen. Every time a call came through and I had to talk to him, he sounded very professional and businesslike. Even when I had to enter his office to drop something on his desk, he barely acknowledged my presence as he was so engrossed in what he was doing. I wondered how he could act that way and wished I could be like that and that even made him more attractive to me which was extremely dangerous.

As the day went by, it was soon 6pm, I took the jacket and went to straight to his office. I knocked and entered. He looked up at me and smiled coldly.

"Well, I guess you could not wait any longer" He taunted.

"Not that sir, I just don't want to go home late today."

"Come on now, you can't lie to me Amelia, I have been watching you since morning and I know how disturbed and distracted you have been." "I think a lot has occurred between us already, so you don't have to pretend in front of me" He said.

"Oh.." I could not speak.

"Drop the jacket on the chair and take a look at that file" He pointed at a file. "Your punishment is written there. You might want to sit down because it might be a huge shock to you."

I opened the file and as I read through it, I almost fainted.

"WHAT!!?" I exclaimed.
