Chapter 1 The New CEO

AMELIA'S POV

I took one look at him and knew I was dead.

Seriously, he is my boss? I ask myself for the upteenth time that day. I sat down on my chair and blinked back the tears that was threatening to fall.

Okay, Amelia Summers, calm down, I said to myself. It actually wasn't my fault that the hot guy I met for my blind date is actually Arthur King, the new CEO of KINGS GROUP, my work place and I am going to be his PA, that is if I still have a job at the end of today.

Last week, the former CEO Mr Usher King held a meeting with all the top staffs that he was retiring and that his son will be the new CEO of the company and he will be resuming the next week Monday. He later called me into his office to tell me that the new CEO has the right to decide if he still wants me to continue as his PA or if he wants a new person but he assured me that he was going to put in good words for me.

So getting home to see that someone has messaged me on the dating site and set up a blind date in an exquisite restaurant made for the rich in the society, it was a welcome relief and I accepted it without batting an eyelid. Looking back now, I wish I could turn back the hand of time and refuse that invitation.

When I got to work this morning, the whole building was buzzing with anticipation and rumours of how the new CEO looked like because nobody has ever seen him. I wasn't really interested in how he looks, I was more interested in creating a good first impression so as to retain my job. I had dressed up in the best of my clothes which my two roommates and best friends picked out for me and has high hopes that he was going to retain me because my former boss has said he told his son that I was a decent person. So you can imagine my shock when I walked into the boardroom and saw that my new boss was my weekend blind date who I had shared a hot kiss with. After the introduction and formalities were all done with, he walked to me on his way to his new office and said "meet me in my office by the end of the day" And with that, he walked away with a cold look on his face. And in that instant, I knew I was dead meat.

I looked at my watch and finally it was closing time. I quickly arranged myself, did a quick touch up on my makeup and went to see my nemesis. I knocked on the door and entered the office. He was sitting on the chair but his back was turned to me. Nervously, I greeted.

"Good afternoon sir"

"Good afternoon Amelia". He answered, and God, the voice! That voice that I could not get over with after that date. That voice that made me think wicked Imaginations. That rich baritone voice that melts my heart away whenever I recall it. That voice I can never forget. That same voice, and now I was going to be hearing it every time. I sure hope I survive.

And then he turned to face me and I knew in that instant, I was done for. He is breathtaking handsome. I stood still as I shamelessly stared at him without restraint. His chiseled jawline, piercing blue eyes and lips to kill. Lips that I have tasted and would love to taste again. And the hair, oh, I still remember how they felt to touch. So silky and soft.

"If you are done assessing me, you can stop drooling and have your seat" I heard his voice and snapped out of my imaginations feeling embarrassed.

"I am sorry sir" I apologized as I sat down.

"Don't worry, it's no big deal, I get that a lot of time so am used to it by now" He said exuding power and confidence.ppp

Oh, you get that a lot and still went on a blind date, I muttered to myself.

"Are you saying something?" I heard him ask.

"No, I'm not sir" I said.

"Oh dearest Amelia, I know you are dying to know what I planned to do with you because of our encounter during the week right" He said mischievously.

I didn't say anything or rather, I had nothing to say.

"It's ok, let's get down to business" He said and the smile disappeared. He was in boss mode and I know that any mistake I made right now will indeed be the end of my career.

"I have gone through your profile and résumé and coupled with the good words my father said about you, I can say you indeed deserve this job"

"Thank you sir" I said relieved and for the first time since that morning, I was relaxed.

"But.." Oh no, nothing good ever comes out after the word 'but'. I prepared myself to hear the inevitable. "But what I cannot comprehend, is the part where my father said you are decent. That I find hard to believe"

"Why do you say so sir?" I asked innocently.

"Because there was nothing decent about the way you kissed me that Saturday" He said giving me that charismatic smile and in that instant, I hated him.

"What Amelia, cat got your tongue?" He asked.

"I don't think it's fair to judge my work by my personal life sir and besides apart from the fact that it's inappropriate to talk about something we are both guilty of, i find it even more unfair that you are indirectly accusing me of indecency when you were the one who Initiated the kiss" I said in a rush.

"Calm down now Amelia dear, no need to get angry" He said as he stood up and walked to where I was sitting and sat on the table in front of me. He bent his head forward and lifted my face with his finger and whispered "I just want to know you, the real you I mean, I just want to know how you so perfectly balanced the two personality"

I was supposed to be angry, I know am supposed to, but I was not, instead my stupid heart was beating fast the last second and I was shaking and blushing like an idiot.

And then he kissed me. I wanted to move away, my brain was trying to scream sense into me, but my body was set in its own way. And with reckless abandon, I kissed him back.
