Chapter 8 Let's Divorce

Nadine wondered if she was in a hospital room.

"Caden?" She looked at the face before her, puzzled.

Caden, regaining composure, spoke softly. "You're sweating. Bad dream?"

Considering Milly's suggestion to use Nadine as a link to Warren, Caden decided to be kinder.

He set aside his ego, gently wiping the sweat from her forehead.

This unexpected tenderness left Nadine surprised.

Their year of marriage had been distant, their interactions minimal. Caden usually kept his distance, only interacting when necessary.

They lived like strangers under one roof. In fact, he seemed closer to Milly than his wife.

"Why so quiet? Are you feeling alright?" Caden's concern seemed genuine as he tenderly held her face.

He needed Nadine's connection to Warren, so feigning kindness was a strategic move, his smile convincing.

Nadine, unfazed, stated, "Caden, I want a divorce."

Caden's smile vanished.

Her mention of divorce, especially after her infidelity, stunned him. How could she be so brazen?

He retorted, "Divorce? Are you crazy? What are you talking about?"

It was unlike him to speak this way. Nadine, unshaken, replied, "You were unfaithful, right? With that woman in the hotel?"

How did she find out? Did she piece together everything this morning?

Caden, realizing she knew, laughed nervously.

"Nadine, since when did you become so suspicious? Are you bored?"

After a pause, his tone shifted. "Or perhaps you're the one longing for someone else?"

His smirk revealed his mocking disbelief.

Unfazed by Caden's mockery, Nadine responded with composure, "You don't need to explain anything to me. Your claim of impotence was a convenient excuse to avoid me, but it doesn't stop you from having affairs. If you prefer someone else's company, I have no interest in being part of this charade."

Caden's laughter waned.

His erectile dysfunction claim had been a ploy to distance himself from Nadine, whom he found dull. Divorce, however, had never been his intention.

Nadine continued, "You've seen the news too, right? You strayed, and so did I. Let's just end this. It would be easier for both of us."

Caden's expression contorted. "I know about the news. Your father said Warren cleared your name, claiming you weren't the woman in the photo. But I know you were with Warren. You betray me and now want a divorce?"

He leaned in, his gaze filled with disdain.

"So, did Warren find you satisfying? He wouldn't defend you without a reason. Seems like you've gotten a taste for it, unable to bear loneliness without a man."

Nadine faced his provocations with an unexpected serenity.

"I'm done playing this little game with you. Our families' joint project concludes in three months. Tomorrow, I'll file for divorce and inform my family after the project's completion," Nadine declared firmly, unsettling Caden.

He had expected his words to shame her into submission, to cling to their marriage. But Nadine's calm proposition of divorce took him aback.

Could she have developed feelings for Warren?

How was this possible?

The thought infuriated him. She was his wife! How could she fall for another man?

Caden exploded, "You think you can cheat and then just walk away peacefully? No fucking chance!"

In a fit of rage, he grabbed her hair, pulling her toward him.

Nadine, pained and furious, demanded, "Caden, are you insane? Let go!"

"I won't let you go, not even in death. You're my wife. I'm the only one who can leave! You have no right to leave me!"

With these harsh words, Caden stormed out, slamming the door.

Left alone, Nadine fumed at his audacity and lack of remorse. "Psycho!" she muttered, her anger palpable.
