Chapter 5 Vampires

HELP!!! I recognized that voice immediately, it's Mom's. I quickly stood up and started running towards the living room. That's where the noise came from. I ran and ran and just when I was about to enter the living room, I heard mom scream, "Kara leave this place" I stood there frozen, mom was held down by two men, they were dressed in black and their skin was as pale as mom's, it looked bloodless. I kept staring at them, they had dark eyes and everything about them spelt danger! And for some reason, they remind me of Max.

while I was trying understand what was going on, one of the men brought out a small but sharp knife from his pocket, and without any hesitation, he stabbed Mom with it.

It was as though, Time had stopped, and for a moment I felt like I couldn't breathe. The men started coming towards me, and I didn't Know what to do. I heard mom forcing herself to say "RUN". But I couldn't, I couldn't just leave, not with my mom lying in a pool of blood. I kept staring at the men as They moved closer, with the knife, stained with my mother's blood.

They were really close now, and I still couldn't do anything, I just stared as the man with the knife raised it towards me, and I knew for sure that this was the end! He was about to stab me when suddenly he fell down right in front of me. I raised my head and saw Max standing behind him. He had a knife similar to the attackers own. And for some reason, I felt relieved a bit.

"Max just saved my life".

And Then, he started fighting with the other guy. They kept exchanging blows and dodging each other's knives.

That's when my attention went back to mom.

I watched as my mom's eyes slowly closed, I ran towards her crying, and I could hear her whisper, "go , leave Kara, keep Kendra safe, " . "No mom you'll be there with us, you won't leave" I said crying.

"Darling, I'm sorry, I should have told you everything...." Mom said, then suddenly, her eyes closed. I could feel her heart beat stop, and at that moment I knew my mom was gone. I kept crying as I sat in the pool of blood, my mother's blood.

I was busy with crying when I felt someone touch my shoulder, I turned around frightened, I turned around and saw it was Max. I looked around the place and saw the other man dead, and that's when I had time to notice their faces. They had long fangs and nails. I looked at Max and he had the same fangs, then, I looked down and saw mom's fangs too.

I hurriedly stood up, my dress drenched in blood, but I didn't care, I had a lot going on so, I didn't care.

Max stood and started moving towards me. "Kara, we need to leave" he said, his eyes glowing black with a little bit of red.

"Max, what's going on? What's this?". I asked moving away from him slowly.

He kept moving towards me. " Kara, we need to leave this place, now! They are going to send more of their men soon, we need to leave" he said, impatiently.

"No! I'm not leaving my mom, I'm staying here with her and that's final" I replied bluntly. "Look, you don't understand, they aren't here just for your mom they want you dead too" Max said trying to convince me.

" But why? Why Max? Why are they after our lives, why di... Did the..yy do this to mom, what's going on Max? And most importantly, what are you?" I said the last part staring at his elongated teeth.

When he noticed I was staring, his face Changed and his teeth were back to normal.

"Kara, I'll explain everything later, we have to leave now!" He said, this time dragging my hands. I was about to say something when we heard noises, Max dragged me and we hid behind a curtain.

Then, we Heard a voice say, "They killed jack and Hector! How's that possible, I Know for sure, she's not strong enough to kill them. and her kids couldn't have done this" he said, sounding really surprised. "I think they have someone helping them" another one said. "Well, the good news is that she's dead, her kids won't be that much trouble" the first guy said.

Then he added "now, go get ready, I need the army to split up, check every corner of this city, find them and bring them both to the castle. And don't forget we want the older one alive!."

My eyes widened as I heard the last part, and I held on to Max tightly. They wanted me alive? Why did they kill my mom, and what about Kendra? What are they going to do to her? I wondered, as i gathered courage and peeked through the curtains.

What I saw surprisingly didn't scare me. They were also monsters, they had long fangs black eyes and pale skin, they were at least twenty of them. They all sat down in the living room as they discussed something in low tones that all I could hear was whispers. I kept looking around and saw mom lying in the pool of blood, just as I left her, I was Soo sad, but all I could do was pray that Kendra wouldn't show up, because if she does, God only knows what they'll do to her.

We stayed there for hours, and after what felt like forever, they finally stood up to Leave.

What I saw next blew my mind.

When they got to the door, their supposed leader spread out wings and lifted himself to the sky, and one after the other, they kept spreading wings and flying, until they all left.

When the coast was clear, Max and I came out of our hiding spot.

And without warning Max held my hands and started dragging me towards the back door, I started fighting back as I cried "Max we can't leave mom here, we have to go with her, I can't leave my mom, at least let's bury her Max, please".

" Kara let's go " Max said

"But what about Kendra, I promised mom I'll take care of her. We need to find her Max" I said, still crying. But he didn't stop, we were already at the door.

"Max, let's give Mom a proper burial at least" I said. He finally left my hand, and faced me he put both his hands on my shoulder, and he said bluntly "she doesn't need a burial okay? Aunt Amber doesn't need to be buried because she's a vampire! And we don't need burials. She's going to turn to dust by sunrise. so just move on Kara"

I think I my heart skipped a beat, did he just say vampire? I thought vampires don't exist, but here I am, I've been living with a vampire my whole life. And I definitely have feelings for a vampire!

That explains the blood wine, why she hates going out, the extremely pale skin and all those weird stuff. I can't believe it ! My mother is a vampire. I have been fooled my whole life....

I kept thinking, as Max stared at me, the only reason I was still standing was because of his hands that held me the whole time.

I didn't know what as happening because I was already feeling dizzy, I looked up and saw Max staring at something across the room, I was about to turn so I'll see what it was when I heard him scream, Nooooo!

Things happened so fast and the next thing I knew was that Max wrapped me around his arms and spread his wings, he was about to take off when I heard a sound.

GUNSHOT!
