Chapter 4 I was right

I woke up this morning all grumpy, I was not in a good mood.

I slowly dragged my feet to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and took a shower. I walked out feeling a bit better,

I sat in front of the mirror and started getting ready, I applied a little make up and tied my hair pig tail style, I like it cause it makes me look younger. I coiled two strand of hair at the front to add to the beauty. When I was done, I was pleased with how I looked. I walked to the closet and picked up a pair of blue jeans and a white crop top, I took a white sneaker to go with It and I was perfectly ready.

I have to look good, because today is the day I find out what's going on.

At the thought of that, I remembered something....

I forgot Mom's wine in Kendra's room last night. I know there's no way she'll let me in her room after what happened last night, she probably thinks I'm crazy. The only way I can get it is by sneaking in to her room without her knowing.

It was just seven thirty when I left my room, so I'm sure Kendra's still sleeping. I walked quickly to her room and pushed the door lightly... It was locked, I remembered she locked it after sending me out last night and knowing Kendra, she must still be sleeping.

So, I turned around, slightly disappointed, as I headed towards mom's room.

I got to her room and pushed the door open. I peeked and saw that she was awake, I walked in and greeted

"Good morning mom"

"Good morning Kara" she said, faking a smile. She was still sad.

I sat beside her, trying to comfort her . Mom put her head on my shoulder and started crying.

I didn't say a word, I just let her cry her heart out. I felt really bad, mom is so broken.

When she was done crying, I found the guts to ask her "Mom what's going on"

"What do you mean sweetie?" She asked , acting ignorant.

"Mom you Know exactly what I mean, something is going on and you know what it is." I said, almost crying.

"Mom I'm not comfortable with Max, he's hiding something, and I think he's trying to hurt us. And mom, did you see how he reacted after Kendra broke that glass stuff? He was acting as though he's our father. Or as though he has something to do with the glass" I added, this time firmly.

"Kara, what's going on with you? Are you alright? Maybe we should see a doctor" mom said, pretending to be worried.

That's when I lost it, she has been hiding something from us and now I want to know what it is, she's asking me to see a doctor? Do I look crazy to her?

"I've had enough, I heard Max saying something about an ancestral crystal, and he also said that we don't know what's going on but you do. I also saw a glass of wine in his room mom, but when I moved closer, I realized it was blood." I yelled and was about to continue, when I looked up at mom's face.

She didn't look scared or surprised and that means, she knows what's going on.

And that gave me an idea, I'll ask her about her wine. But instead of talking, I walked straight to her fridge and took a bottle, and then I looked at her and asked "What's in this bottle mom?" She didn't reply instead, she stood there looking at me.

"Answer me mom, you've always been Soo protective of this bottle, no one touches it, not even dad, it's not branded, there's no label or name tag," I said smiling at her. But she didn't say a word so I added "Didn't you ever think that we would suspect you some day, didn't you think of the reply to give your kids when they ask why their mom is always protective of common wine, didn't you ever think we'll ask you about why you own a big company but never go to check on it? You are always at home mom? Are you scared that you'll be seen or caught by some enemies of yours, is this the reason why dad left yo......"

"Enough!!" Mom yelled and that's when I realized that I've gone a little over board. But I can't help it, these questions have been on my mind for so long and Max's presence made things even clearer, mom has a secret, a family secret, and I can't help but ask, I'm a very curious person.

"Just answer the question Mom" I said, but she didn't say a word. So, I started opening the wine but then suddenly mom rushed towards me, it was Soo fast I didn't know how it happened, next thing I saw was mom standing right in front of me, and the wine was now in her hands. I stared at her in disbelief, okay now I'm convinced, something is definitely wrong.

"Honey, there's a lot going on and I don't want you to get involved" she started calmly this time.

"There's a whole lot of dangerous things out there, and I promise to protect you. I'm hiding something, that's true, but it's best kept hidden, because I want a normal life for you and Kendra. Every thing I do, I do it for you. Okay? Now trust me and stay out of it" I hugged her immediately and we both cried our eyes out. I wasn't satisfied with her answers but at least I was right, even though I don't know what this is about , I'm glad I was right.

"Ma'am, breakfast is ready" the maid said bringing us back to reality.

When we got to the table, Max and Kendra were already there. "Good morning aunt" Max greeted. " Good morning Max, how was your night?" Mom asked in return.

"It was nice thanks" Max replied. I just stared at them, I wasn't in the mood to talk so I didn't say a word. Moments later breakfast was served and we ate. It was quiet and I really appreciated the silence.

I used the opportunity to sneak peeks at Max, and admire his good looks.

Disgusting, but still.

After breakfast, I took my bag and walked to the car, my driver Jake, was already waiting.

School was normal as usual, the kids in my class kept talking about how exciting it is that we're leaving high school and how much they will miss it, we also discussed about school prom, college applications and stuffs like that. The only abnormal thing is that Kendra was in school today. And for some reason, she smiled at me, that hasn't happened in ages. It warmed my heart.

I'm starting to have hopes that she'll change, or at least, consider me family again.

Finally, school was over and I was looking forward to going home.

When I walked out of the building, Jake was already waiting for me, I entered the car merrily and he drove off .

There was a huge traffic jam and I was getting bored, so I brought out my phone and started playing games, I was already lost in game world, when a call suddenly entered. It was an unknown number, *weird*

I picked without hesitation, then I heard a voice say "Kara," immediately, I recognized the voice, it's dad!

"Dad.. dad is it really you? " I started , but he cut in and added "Kara, listen to me, keep your sister safe, and your mom too, Kara you have to do this"

"What do you mean dad? You left us and never turned back to even check on us dad! You're meant to be the one protecting us, but you are telling me to do it instead? And what's going on are we in some kind of trouble?" I said, already crying.

"Sweetie, this isn't the time to explain, just do as I say, stay away from your aunt Lydia, and I want you to leave that house, tell your mom that they Know your whereabouts and are coming for you, you have to leave immediately Kara, just tell your mom she'll understand" he said and then hung up Immediately.

"Wait dad..." I said, but it was too late. I tried calling the number but it wasn't reachable. So I just gave up. I continued crying until I got home, I walked in quickly calling mom's name, but there was no answer, I called Max and Kendra but none of them answered. This made me freak out even more. I started yelling and crying when finally a maid came in and told me that my mom and Max weren't home they left a few minutes ago, that didn't sound right because mom never leaves the house without a reason.

I ran upstairs and pushed mom's door but it was locked.

Then I ran towards Kendra's room and luckily, it wasn't locked, I entered and she was not there. I sat on her bed, trying to think of what dad told me, then I saw the bottle of wine I left there last night.

I picked it up and opened it this time, without wasting time.

And just as I thought! It wasn't wine but blood!

I felt dizzy upon seeing and understanding what was going on, before I could think about anything, I heard some one scream, HELP!!!
