Chapter 2 2

QUINN

She walked up to me with tears in her eye pulling me into a hug and started crying.

"Are you not mad at me ?" I sobbed in the hug.

"I'm mad but look at what that bastard did to my best friend you look skinny and your hair has lost his gloss, I should have shot him when he told you to move with him to New York." she whispered as we both pulled away from the hug. "I'm sorry for not listening to you, I wouldn't have gone through that shit I'm back and we can catch up." I said as we both hugged again.

"I hate you.." she sobbed while I giggled. "No you don't." I said as she sat me down.

"You missed a lot everything's changed, Zoe was promoted, she gets to go on missions now with the CIA, I go sometimes and it's scary." she says. "What do you mean Scary? " I asked.

"Recently there have been uprising of gangsters and mobs, they started coming out of the shadows and causing trouble."

"Gangsters and Mobs have always been around aren't they the same robbing of banks and jewelry stores, why would you say uprising? " I said as she shook her head.

"Like I said everything has changed there different gangs and mobs and they are dangerous, a politician was killed last month when he was briefing the public, it was rumoured he had beef with some mob boss or gangs.." she said.

"Politicians are always in danger blaming it on mob boss or gangsters is silly Mandy." I told her.

"It's not, I was chosen to tag on a mission, the mission was about protecting some billionaire, we were required to keep him safe they shot the man after all the security." she said.

"So what is their aim? " I asked.

The door flung wide open. "The Chief request everyone for emergency briefing." an officer came in as Mandy nodded.

She took me by the hand as we both went to the hall room, a few cops gathered some were wearing their uniforms a few were not they were either working for the senior department, the CIA or they were from another agency.

A few of them greeted me with a smile or with a welcome back.

"Quinn, what a surprise after you quit the force you look different." I turned to see Zoe.

"Zoe, how are you? " I asked trying to be polite.

"I'm promoted, it's good to know one of us was serious about her carrier instead of eloping with a douchebag boyfriend." she said coldly I just stared at her silently. "The good news is you didn't get pregnant or else that kid would have had a joke for a mother." her words were like a dagger to my chest, I went limb and all I could think was how irresponsible I was to loose the pregnancy.

"Zoe what is wrong with you? " Mandy was about to loose it but the chief walked in, I had to wipe away some tears before anyone noticed.

"I'm so sorry sweetie." Mandy comforted me but I just shook my head. "No she is right.. " I couldn't utter more as the Chief gained all our attention.

"Zoe take over." Chief said as Zoe stood up the lights were dimmed down and some blueprints stood out in the dark.

"We all know the about the recent uprising of gangsters and mobs recently, but recently there's a new gang they call themselves AXE-L." she started off.

"This gang is notorious, we have reports from the branch in New York that they bombed a warehouse killing 50 people and recently kidnapped Hank Bronze a notorious ex convict who was in hiding then later drugged him to death." she said.

"If Hank Bronze is an ex convict and they killed him aren't they the good guys? " one of the officers asked. "They have no rights to end the life of a criminal without the government approval and they are famous for other notorious crimes, we have an advantage on them and predict their next target but we also have a disadvantage, as infamous as they appear no one has seen the members face to face they are invisible that is their strength they could be anybody."

"The only information we have on them is that they wear masks, face mask, nose mask anything to hide identity."

"That's why no one knows them." I whispered to myself.

"We all must be on guard you can come across them anytime, an investigation has been requested by the vice president and we've chosen a few to investigate we just need Volunteers to back up." a few people put their hands down, I looked round and put mine up, Zoe's eyes met mine.

"Lieutenant Fields put your hand down this is a serious case not some game." Zoe said coldly I glared at her, since when did she start calling me Lieutenant ?

"I am serious I want to help." I stated.

"Quinn my office.. " Chief said as I escorted her back to her office. "Can you believe that Chief ? Zoe making decisions for me and saying I'm not serious." I said.

"She's right, I don't even want you volunteering this is a serious case you need time to think and heal." she said. "Why does everyone say I need time, I don't need time thinking about how I made the biggest mistake of my life I need to be out there helping people and I can't do that if everyone keeps telling me I need time." I lamented.

"Because you do, I know you had a miscarriage and I don't want you stressing yourself." she said.

"My dad told you didn't he, but I'm fine chief I can volunteer if you don't let me start taking up responsibilities and wanted me to heal why did you let me back in? " I ask.

"I didn't want to, your father persisted I take you back in for old time sake because he wants you to be happy and busy but I want you to be safe, you're not volunteering and that's it." she said as she request I leave her alone.

After that I was only allowed to patrol and excluded from anything that had to be dangerous.

I was only excuse to do a night patrol I didn't complain on that it was better than normal patrolling and giving people parking ticket.

I was patrolling the streets and got a call from Calvin I answered it while inspecting the building.

"What do you want? " I whispered.

"so how's your day? " he asked.

"This isn't a great time at the moment I'm doing night patrol, it sucks." I stated.

"You like night patrol."

"I do it's just they gave me the safest street and then I volunteered earlier for an investigation and they turned me down because Chief knew about my miscarriage and worse, dad was the reason I got this job back and Zoe was being a bitch to me I just wish I never met Terry." I stated hearing a groan from a dark corner.

The groan grew louder when I went closer.

"Tommorow we'll talk about... " I didn't hear anything Calvin said I was focused on the strange noise.

"Calvin I have to go." I end the call to explore the corner, I point my flashlight to see a someone he was unconscious and had slight bruises and some blood bleeding from his head.

"Hello.." I echoed to check if he was actually unconscious.

I went over to him, he looked like he got into a fight and was beaten up, I stared at him for a while, then I searched him looking for probably ID card but found none.

He could be a criminal but he had no gun on him and he looks like a responsible citizen, I made up my mind and dragged him back to my apartment.

It took me more than 45 minutes, I placed him on my matress, I went to my bathroom and changed into tank top and jeans.

I got a bowl and a towel cleaning off the traces of blood slowly and plastered where he bled, my hands trailed to his shirt I tugged on to the button yanking it all off.

I blushed when I caught sight of his abbs, I averted my gaze to his face, I bent a bit trying to take of his shirt, I got goosebumps as he breath against me.

Inadvertently his right hand encircled me he forced me down as my figure crashed against him.

I could feel the sound of his heart beat, I quickly got off him and helped him continue taking off his shirt.

I snuck downstairs to use the hotel washing machine and dryer to clean his bloody dress shirt.

I quickly snuck back in my room and folded his shirt next to him, I just laid down on the Cold floor and then I slept off.

The next morning I heard the doorbell ring, I quickly got up rubbing my eyes and went to get the door to see Mandy and Calvin.

"What are you guys doing here so early ?" I questioned.

"Getting you ready for work duh." Mandy said as they both came in. "I went on night patrol I don't come in until 10 it's 7 in the morning for God sake." I said and then gasped.

I checked the bathroom and then the kitchen.

"What are you looking for? " Mandy asked.

"I-I don't know." I couldn't admit I invited a man I didn't know to my house.

"You look like you've seen a ghost." Mandy giggled while I noticed Calvin drop his phone.

He now look like he's seen a ghost.

"Calvin? What happened? " he remained frozen for some time but was then able to look at me.

"Dad's dead."
