Chapter 4

When Ned saw Carlos' grouchy face, he did not dare to ask any more questions other than, "Where are you going now, Mr. Lawson?"

"Home."

"Yes, Mr. Lawson!"

After Ned sent him back, he immediately called Rubby.

"How was it today? Did Carlos go to see his bride?" she asked.

"He... he did go," Ned answered awkwardly.

"Why are you stuttering? Is it because he doesn't like that girl and abused her?"

"No, it's just that Mr. Lawson went in for less than ten minutes and came out. His clothes were in disarray. It seems that he has done it, but the time taken..." Ned paused as he couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed.

"What?" Rubby cried out in surprise and almost fainted.

It was rumored that Carlos was impotent and that was why he had been delaying marriage and did not even have any illegitimate child in the meanwhile. Rubby was forced to arrange a marriage and did not care if he was willing or not. She did not expect the result to be like this!

"Arrange for a doctor to treat Mr. Lawson. Make sure that this is done with sensitivity. Don't let him find out, lest his self–esteem can't stand it. Let's put aside his marriage life for now and focus on nursing his body."

"Yes, Madam."

The next day, when Edith woke up, she found a man's tie on the bed. She was sure that there wasn't one when she turned off the lights last night.

Could it be... that her husband had returned last night?

She was jolted awake. She checked herself and found that most of her clothes had been stripped off, but... there was no blood.

"He didn't do it?"

She heaved a sigh of relief and walked into the bathroom. From the mirror, she saw the dense red hickeys on her neck.

"Did he bite my neck?" she wondered.

She had never even done such an intimate act with Johann before!

"But why didn'the finish the act? Could it be that... he couldn't?"

She suddenly remembered the photo on the news. It was obvious that Simon Lawson was a lecherous man.

"Whoosh," she let out a long sigh.

She felt happy that she was lucky enough to escape.

She tidied up and went out, and she knew that the Lawson family was completely indulgent to her.

She couldn't give up and continued to call Johann, but no one answered.

Chapter 4

He only cared about her weak cousin right now. How could he still remember such a strong–willed person like her?

Edith smiled bitterly and felt that she should no longer hold onto him. She also could not afford to offend the Lawsons. Since Johann had made his choice, she should accept it.

From now on, they had nothing to do with each other!

She went to change a phone number and cut off that person completely.

Edith called her friend with the new number. Both were from Caurtine and they became close when they were studying abroad. Now that she had changed her number, she had to inform her.

Just after she introduced herself, her friend, Sarah Brown, asked in a hurry, "Edith, are you back in Caurtine? That's great. Can you do me a favor? I need to meet a client this afternoon and take some measurements. I will need an assistant. My current assistant happens to be on leave. Can you help me?"

"Sure, I'm free," Edith replied.

Eventually, Edith stood in front of a towering building. When she looked right on top of the building, she saw the words "Lawstom Group"!

"Isn't... isn't this my husband's company?" she thought.
