Chapter 4 HIS FAMILY DRAMA

Alexander Luis-Diaz

-a week later.

Grandma's voice finally broke the tense silence in the dining room. "Shouldn't I be getting a

great grandson for my seventy-fifth birthday?" she asked Selene, who was seated on the couch

across from her in the big living room of Grandma's house.

We had just finished dinner and were all seated in the living room. Selene was my elder brother

Killian's wife, and they had been married for two years without a child.

Killian was seated next to Selene. The furnishings in the living room were modern minimalist,

ivory accented with dark teak. There was a lot of buttery leather and several watercolor

paintings of green mountains on the walls. The floor was pale champagne marble, buffed to a

glossy sheen, with a few geometric-patterned rugs adding to the ambiance.

Every first day of the month, we had little family dinners that none of us were allowed to bail on.

And every month, Grandma always reminded Killian and Selene about having a child. The last

time they didn't come for the monthly family dinner, Grandma cried that her grandson didn't love

her anymore.

Miranda Luis-Diaz was a dramatic woman. She could control the rate at which her eyes

excreted fluid-it felt wrong to call it tears, as most of the time she wasn't really crying.

"Your mother was nineteen when she had her first child," Grandma said again, this time to

Killian.

Killian was twenty-nine, just three years older than I was, and he was the most reserved person

I knew. His marriage to Selene was arranged by Dad, and they had been pushing the loveless

marriage for two years now.

I couldn't understand why he didn't stand up to Dad years ago when he set both him and Selene

up. I felt like Killian never for once went against Dad; he was his heir after all and he was

probably going to take over Dad's company after his retirement.

Dad and I had never got along even for a second. When Mom died seven years ago, he didn't

attend her funeral because they were divorced.

I loathed him since then and I vowed never to take anything from him. That was when I went

into the real estate business five years ago and made it big, making it to the top two youngest

billionaires in the US.

I couldn't remember the last time Dad and I talked. He never attended the monthly family

dinners because he didn't want to see me, his prodigal son, and I didn't want to be around him

either.

Only Killian, Grandma, and Selene attended the dinners, and I had a feeling Selene might stop

attending because of Grandma's constant nagging.

I swallowed an impatient growl that wanted to push its way out of my chest. "I think you should

let Selene and Killian decide if they want a child or not," I finally said.

Grandma's eyes widened in shock like I had said a bad thing. "You're lucky I'm not nagging you

for a great-grandchild, I'm only giving you more time to heal."

Sometimes, Grandma could be scary and mean, and right now, she was being both. I clenched

my fists tightly and exhaled sharply. Time to heal? I was never going to heal from Mandy's

betrayal. Mandy Green and I used to be best friends in college, we fell in love, nada nada nada.

She gave out confidential information about a very important client of mine to an enemy for a

couple of million bucks then ran off with the money.

How could she? I had already had thoughts of proposing and she betrayed me for money. I

could've just handed my whole fortune to her if she had asked for it, but she chose to betray me

instead. It made me realize that all women were just after my money, none of them could truly

love me.

After our fallout, which happened a year ago, I hadn't dated anyone since then. I had a lot of

one-night stands though, another proof that women would do anything for money.

"Or...do you need me to find you a nice woman?" Grandma asked again.

"For," I asked, staring at her like I didn't understand.

"You can get her pregnant and give me a great-grandchild because I think I might die before

Selene gives me one,"

Selene shrugged, and I could see Killian suddenly taking her hand to stop her from saying

anything.

I ignored the remark because I didn't want to drag the matter any further. I could find my own

bed partners, thank you very much. Someone like Red Dress Girl?

I frowned a little. It had been a week, but the memory of that night still had my blood boiling.

Every Thursday night, I had my secret visits to club 001, and the club manager, Chizzy, would

send a woman to my room to spend the night with, and then I'd pay her for her service the next

morning.

Even though Chizzy said he didn't send any woman to my room that night, it made me even

more curious about who she was. It wasn't just the sex, as amazing as that was. It was

everything else about her-the unabashed way she clung to me. The way her black hair

cascaded down her shoulders and back, framing a small, heart-shaped face with a stubborn

chin.

I wondered if she was wearing colored contacts because she had the most unusual shade of

green-brown eyes. And her lips were so full and vulnerable, her skin was smooth and flawless.

Why did she have to sneak out while I was asleep? Women didn't usually pull disappearing acts

on me without getting paid for the night. I wondered what Red Dress Girl was doing right now.

Was she thinking about me? Was she also thinking about that night like I was?

It didn't really matter because it was just a one-night stand. So what if it was the best damn sex I

ever had? She left and I also left.

"Grandma's party starts in three hours, don't you think we should all be on our way back?"

Selene suggested as she glanced at Killian.

Killian nodded as he got on his feet and helped Selene up. I also got up, and Grandma didn't

seem happy that we were leaving.

"We'll see you at the party tonight, Granny," I reassured her, and with that, we all walked out of

the house.

I watched Killian and Selene hop into Killian's car, and I could sense the tension between them.

They were being supportive of each other five seconds ago, so what suddenly went wrong?

When their car was out of sight, I hopped into my Tesla and pulled out of the driveway.
