Chapter 5 Secret files

Secret Files

Working at Gold Ring was going smoothly for Ava. If not for the fact that she had a boss more complex than she had imagined, it could have been heaven working here. As the days passed slowly, Ava began to easily forget what had happened.

But then, anytime she set her eyes on him or saw anything that related to him, the feel of his lips against hers came to life again. She could still hear his breath so close. Why did he have to do such a thing only to tell her to...

"Forget it ever happened?" Ava thought at loud as she sat on her desk on one of such afternoons. It was difficult having to experience all these and keep it alone. She was already so used to sharing everything with Connor and Alice, but she made up her mind that she wasn't going to tell them about this one. Alice was going to spite her for letting Calvin get away after kissing her and playing such a joke with her and Connor... well, Connor was totally unpredictable. She couldn't say.

Connor called almost every day to check on her while making arrangements for one day when they were all going to hang out again. Ava was looking forward to it as she was already as she was already exhausted from work at Gold Ring.

As she sat at her desk that afternoon, she realized there was something off about the day. It wasn't just about today. It had happened multiple times. Calvin was absent from work and she knew nothing about it. On certain occasions, Calvin wouldn't show up for work and would tell her nothing.

So why was she his secretary if she couldn't get to know why he was not present at the company? What type of appointments were he attending that his secretary didn't need to make a record of? Or was he just having a fun time in his gigantic mansion, calling young harlots together for a swim?

She was thinking too far, she admitted to herself. But she was as curious as ever.

She stood now and made his way to his office. She was about to go through his things!

One thing was sure, the security cameras were going to come at her, but she already knew her way around that. She could make the camera malfunction and before the security officers knew what was going on, she would be done.

No! No!

Ava removed the thoughts from her mind. She didn't want things to have to get to that extent. Am I really that cracked up already? She asked herself.

She didn't realize when she was done with hijacking the cameras. Alone in his office now, she pulled open his files and ran through them. Many of them still had to do with company - inventories, reports, statements...

She tried other lockers and found more - family talks, submissions for endorsements and sponsorships, nothing weird...

She was beginning to feel this was unnecessary. There was one locked cupboard, however, and to her greatest surprise, even as the secretary, she didn't have the key. Everyone had to have secrets. She was just shuffling through the desk when she found a key tucked neatly beneath his keyboard.

Seriously?

She tried it on the cupboard and it was the perfect fit. She opened up the cupboard and brought out the files. They were all written and signed by Phillip Notre Dame, not what she had expected. What was even surprising was that they had something to do with donations of organs...

It wasn't one...

It wasn't two...

Multiple organs! Hearts, lungs, kidneys, livers...

What would they be using all these for? Well... Ava dismissed the question. She worked for a pharmaceutical company. These things were expected. Perhaps, they were experiments for a drug. Ava decided it was best not to think too much about it. Shortly, the cameras were going to be just fine again and a security officer could be up here at any minute to make sure it was well with the office.

Ava shut the cupboard, replaced everything, made sure it was just as she left it, and stepped out of the office.

Just then, she was approached by two security officers.

"There were glitches from the camera in this office ma'am." One of the men said.

"Oh! Were they?"

First off, she was his secretary so being in his office at any time was completely normal. Secondly, who would believe a woman could easily disable a camera? Ava easily skipped the men and returned to her desk.

When she arrived at work the next day, she was coming in just as Calvin arrived, escorted by Rufus.

"It's going to be one hell of a busy day, Ava," Calvin said immediately after he spotted her without bothering to exchange pleasantries. "My family would be coming to the office."

Now, that was something to think about. The entire Notre Dame would be present and she would get to meet each of them. That made her nervous.

"Does it need me to be worried about something?' Ava asked just as Calvin stepped into his office.

"No... Should you?" Calvin shot back at her. Ava knew there was no point answering that.

Just as she was about to leave, Calvin's words stopped her in her tracks.

"You went through my things..."

She couldn't believe her ears.

"What?"

"You went through the documents, and the locked files..."

It wasn't possible. How did he know that? For God's sake, he just walked into the office. He didn't even check the security cameras or something! Had someone been watching me unknowingly? Ava was sure she was alone when she checked through. She made sure of it.... So how?

"Yes, I did... I'm sorry about that. I just got curious..." Ava couldn't think up any lie. Calvin said nothing afterwards and Ava simply walked out.

Now alone, Calvin was left to wonder. What was she getting curious about?

What did she know?
