Chapter 2 The encounter in the club

Ava's mind spun as she exited the company. Has she just gotten the job? What the hell had happened in there? My goodness! She felt like an absolute fool there. How had she just so earnestly jumped to the conclusion that it was Phillip himself who would do the interview? Now, she had made herself appear like she was not current with the affairs of the company she was just applying to work for!

Damn! Ava cursed.

Still, some things just made her think back and wonder how crazy it had been. Like... how she has gotten the job automatically for breaking the rules and coming ten minutes earlier. These extremely rich people were always full of wonder. How can you be favored for coming for an interview before the set time?

Ava felt blessed as she realized just how good her interview had ended up being. She had completely won his approval. She remembered his words, telling her to resume the next day!

Gosh!

Ava was so overjoyed that she found herself screaming as she ran to get a taxi. She felt like running into an open field just then and screaming her entire life out. Her joy knew no bounds.

In the taxi, she immediately called her friend, Alice. Alice Anderson was her high school and college friend. They had both graduated together and were in a tight clique with another young man - Connor Sanders.

Alice picked up the call.

"Hey dear, perhaps you'd want to drop by at my place today?" Ava asked.

"Sure, Ava."

"Hey, and guess who's coming with her?"

"Connor?" Ava had not expected Connor to be there with her but it was even better. The more, the merrier!

"What's up, Ava?"

"Oh, you can come too! You can sure as hell show up as well!" Ava replied joyfully.

Connor and Alice were in Ava's house shortly after she called and had gotten home to tidy things up.

"Babe, you better got to have some good news spinning with the way you suddenly called us down here!" Alice said as she settled down while Ava hugged Connor.

"How are you?" Connor whispered to her. Connor was a good-looking man with brown, excessively full hair that had such soft coils that it made his mildly chubby face appear younger. He wasn't necessarily fat and looked charming in his right size.

"You're about to find out just how fine I am!" Ava replied as she took a bottle of wine out of the fridge with three glasses. Afterward, a loud, friendly chatter between the trio on how Ava's day went ensued.

When Ava finally gave the main gist to them, they erupted in screams of joy. Ava was going to be the secretary to one of the biggest CEOs in the goddamn city? Wow!

"This calls for celebration!" Alice, who was always the extremely crazy type, announced.

"We're celebrating... Aren't we?" Ava chuckled nervously, fearing the stress of a bigger party.

Alice arched a brow as if to ask, 'Seriously?' "I'm calling Sean. It would go down at his place tonight."

"I agree!" Connor said with an arm jokingly raised.

Ava didn't have much of a choice. "Alright, guys. We doing it!"

They all screamed in merriment.

In the middle of New York City, among the tall buildings and busy streets, lay the beautiful city club known as Sean's Crib, a secret gem of city nightlife. The outside of the club was a work of art, with a facade that combines modern design with traditional grace. The entry, which is marked by a small, stylish sign, leads to a world of luxury and fun. With its clean lines and soft lighting, the outside gave a hint of the class and charm inside, calling the city's elite to its doors.

The trio used Connor's car to get to the bar. Connor was a delivery man who used his car for his business. It earned him a decent living, especially when he had jobs from the higher-ups in town.

The club's interior was a world of rich decorations and lively energy. There was a great mix of modern style and classic elegance in the rooms. The room was warmed and inviting by the glow of the high ceilings with their detailed moldings and sparkling lights. Along the walls were soft plush chairs and private booths that made for cozy spots to talk and relax. The dance floor is the center of the club; it's where all the life and energy is. Trendsetters and influential people from the city come here to lose themselves in the music and the moment.

They went straight to the counter first and ordered drinks.

"We toast to the jackpot our lovely girl got today!" Alice announced and their glasses clicked.

"It's a big opportunity for me, guys, especially for my mother..." Ava said. They all knew about it.

"Yeah... Connor is familiar with those people, you know..."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah! Not familiar like they are friends but he has supplied packages to them a couple of times."

Ava looked at Connot for answers. He chuckled.

"Yeah, true... But most times, I'm met by some Caroline Notre Dame..." Connor replied.

"Should be his sister..." Ava figured.

'Well, that's a talk for another day. For now, we dance!" Alice announced. She led Connor and Ava towards the center.

"I'd join you shortly," Ava replied to her.

"No qualms!"

Alice proceeded with Connor to the dance floor. Ava sat quietly, sipping her drink and going through the opportunity she had just gotten in her mind again.

"Whiskey please...'

The voice that came from beside her was familiar. She turned and couldn't believe her eyes. It was Calvin.

Are you shitting kidding me? How? From what she could tell, he had yet to notice she was the one sitting right beside him. It was the best time to stand up and...

"Are you... You certainly are... The secretary girl."

His voice stopped her in her tracks. She nervously turned to him.

"Interesting... Mr. Calvin..." Ava pretended to be surprised.

"Just Calvin, thanks." He replied.

"Well, I was just about to take my leave..." The last thing Ava needed was sparking up a conversation with the man and she couldn't say why. She didn't want to have to start producing answers to multiple questions.

"Something taking you out early?'

"Yeah... I... I have to settle some things back at home."

"So we meet tomorrow at work?"

Ava chuckled nervously, hoping he couldn't see how nervous she felt written all over her. "We sure do..."

"Goodnight, Ava..."

Ava took her leave instantly with Connor and Alice, wondering one thing only - he remembered my name! All through the time the friends were together and even as they split to their different locations and Ava went into her home, they never realized someone was watching them.

Ava didn't realize that even as she slept, the silhouette was there, staring at her with glowing eyes from outside her window...
