I took a tentative step towards her, my heart racing. As I approached, she managed a small smile, but then something shifted in her expression. She turned and fled, her footsteps echoing in the silence. I was left standing there, alone and confused. I couldn't understand why she had run, why she had turned away from me. I stood there, feeling the chill of the air and the weight of my unanswered questions.
"Jayden, Jayden," a voice said, shaking me gently. I opened my eyes, feeling disoriented.
I sat up and looked around, my eyes resting on Madeline's face. She was staring at me with a look of concern, her eyebrows knitted together.
"What's wrong?" she asked, her voice gentle.
I shook my head, not wanting to burden her with my troubles. "Nothing," I said, my voice hoarse from the dream.
"You were mumbling something in your sleep," she said, her voice filled with curiosity. I paused, unsure of what to say.
"It was just a nightmare," I said, my voice a little shaky.
"Do you mind sharing?" she asked, her gaze curious and kind. I looked away, not wanting to burden her with my thoughts.
"It's really nothing to worry about," I said, forcing a smile. But I could tell she wasn't convinced.
"Are you sure?" she pressed, her voice soft. I nodded, not wanting to discuss it further.
I didn't know what to make of the dream. Who was the woman, and why had I seen her? Was it just my imagination, or was there something more to it?
I was so confused, trying to make sense of the dream and its meaning. I felt torn between wanting to believe and wanting to dismiss it as nothing more than a fantasy. But I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to it.
"Jayden!" Madeline's voice cut through the air, jolting me out of my thoughts.
I turned to her, my heart racing. "I have been calling you," she said, a hint of concern in her voice.
"Sorry," I said, a little uneasy. "I was... lost in thought."
She gave me a knowing smile. "It's okay," she said.
"What happened?" I asked, curious about what had brought her to my room by this time.
"It's almost time for the full moon," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
A wave of anticipation washed over me. The night of the full moon, the night that Madeline and I had been waiting for. The night would change my destiny. My heart pounded with nervous excitement.
"Let's go outside," she said, her voice full of excitement. "Everyone has gathered." I nodded, standing up and taking her hand in mine.
We walked out of the room, my heart racing with anticipation. The night was clear and still, the stars shining brightly above us. The pack members were gathered in a large circle, their faces aglow with wonder. We walked towards them, our footsteps light and quick.
I sat down beside my father, his reassuring presence calming my nerves. Madeline went to join the other pack members, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. The moon hung high in the sky, its light bathing the forest in a soft glow.
I looked around, taking a deep breath, and felt the moon's energy flowing through me. The pack members stood in a circle, their faces turned towards the sky. The night was silent, the only sound was the rustling of the wind through the trees, I closed my eyes.
A chill wind blew through the forest, sending a shiver down my spine. A heavy mist hung in the air, and I could see my breath misting in front of me. The wind was growing stronger, and I pulled my cloak tighter around me.
The moon was now fully in view, its light piercing the darkness. We stood up, raising our faces to the sky, and I felt something inside of me begin to shift.
I closed my eyes, and felt the familiar sensation of the transformation begin. My bones shifted, my limbs lengthening and changing shape. My skin began to ripple and change, turning from soft flesh to thick fur.
I opened my eyes and surveyed the surrounding scene. All the wolves were running, their bodies fluid and graceful. But I kept my focus on the wolf who was running towards me, a pale gray wolf with a black stripe down her back, It was Madeline.
I stood there, a smile playing on my lips. But before I could say anything, before I could embrace my Madeline, something strange happened. Instantly, everything changed. My heart was in my throat, and all I could do was stand there, frozen in shock.
