Chapter 5 Five

IMANI POV

"Sir, I'm so sorry, I'm..." I stuttered, but he cut me off.

"Are you stupid? Do you know what you just did? You ruined my shirt!" he exclaimed, and I watched him storm off to his office.

"I poured coffee on my boss," I muttered under my breath, the weight of embarrassment settling in.

I rushed after him, my mind racing with apologies. "I'm so sorry, sir. I didn't mean to spill coffee on you; it was an accident," I stammered, as I caught up with him outside his office.

"An accident that just ruined my favorite shirt," he snapped, clearly irritated.

"I'll pay for the dry cleaning, and I promise to be more cautious in the future," I pleaded, desperately hoping to save some dignity.

"Fine, deal with it," he said curtly, disappearing into his office without a second glance.

As I stood there, a mix of embarrassment and frustration washed over me. This was not how I planned to start my day.

The day at the office dragged on, each passing hour feeling longer than the last. I tried my best to focus on work, but the morning's incident played on my mind. The relentless ticking of the clock only heightened my uneasiness.

During lunch, I decided to take a break to clear my head. I found comfort in the office garden, surrounded by greenery that offered a brief escape from the chaos happening. It was there that I received a message from Ava.

Ava: Hey, Ima, how's your day going? Need to pick me up coffee?

A smile tugged at the corners of my lips. Ava is always a light of positivity. I texted her back, expressing my need for the coffee.

As the day unfolded, the routine tasks at the office continued. I managed to navigate through meetings and assignments, keeping my interaction with my boss to a minimum.

Later in the day, Ava surprised me with a cup of coffee. We sat in the break room, sipping our coffees, and she shared stories to lighten the mood.

After the day ended, I decided to meet up with my elder sister Anna at a popular restaurant. I told her about the incident that happened today between me and my boss.

"Wait what? You poured coffee on your boss? My sister Anna asked as she stared at my face.

"Stop judging me, sis; it's not like I did it on purpose," I said, frowning.

We were currently at her favorite restaurant for lunch. I munched on some snacks while we waited for the order.

"You wouldn't be saying this if the guy was actually one of those strict bosses that will fire your clumsy self at that point; you are just lucky," she said, shaking her head.

"How would you know if he won't still fire me, and beside, I was in a hurry, you are not helping matters, Anna?" I said, and she laughed.

"The Spanish boss of yours is one hot specimen, though I'm glad he finally noticed you after two years of working on the same floor," she said, laughing.

"Noticed me, you say I don't even want him to do it because if you were there when he was insulting me, you would have stood up and fought for me," I said, frowning.

"I hate him with pure hatred," I uttered in hatred.

"Did he say anything wrong?? You used to talk about your boss a lot when you first started working at D Construction; if I didn't know better, I would think you actually have a crush on him," she said teasingly.

Mr. Delgado is my boss; he is a very arrogant and proud man. I can still remember his word; he said his shirt would feed me for two months. What does he mean? I said, visibly angry.

I didn't say he was rude or proud; I just agree that my boss is one to lust after. Maybe you should check him out on the tabloids.

"I follow celebrity news; I know what I'm talking about," she said, rubbing her hands excitedly.

"What if he finally starts to notice you? Oh my goodness, you guys could have forbidden sex together and a beautiful office romance," she said, clapping excitedly.

"Wake up from that dream, hey! He's my boss, Madam!" I said, screaming.

"Lower your voice; we are in a restaurant, and it isn't supposed to be noisy," she said, chuckling.

Why the hell am I surrounded by mad people? This is so unfair; life is unfair to me.

Now my sister is trying to hook me up with my boss, as if he would even look at me.

"Imani, you are a beautiful girl with an amazing dress sense. You are also smart, and you are still my baby girl. You got the backside... You know, My sister smiled at me.

"Do you remember how guys used to go crazy about you during high school? Even now, you are the one pushing guys away," she said, and I sighed.

"Before I forget, my husband's cousin is around, and I was thinking maybe it's high time I introduced you to someone, who knows you might fall for him," she said, smiling.

"Thanks, but no thanks, sis. If I want a man, I can pick him myself," I said.

"You're almost twenty six, Imani, "she complained.

"Now don't tell me you also believe in society's standards for me," I asked disappointedly.

"Of course not, dear, I'm just worried about you, and...the worst is after..." She trailed, and I stood up.

"Ima," she called.

"I have a lot of things to cover up before the end of today, sis, maybe later because, trust me, this beautiful conversation is heading towards an argument. I love you. Bye... " I said this as we exchanged cheek kisses.

"I love you, flower," she said as I picked up my purse and left the restaurant.

I should definitely apologise to Mr. Delgado; maybe write an apology message to his personal assistant or buy him lunch later, which will definitely get me fired.

What if he thinks I'm out to seduce him or something?

Better still, I should pretend we never met, but what if he is actually expecting an apology message? I felt like pulling my hair in frustration.
