Donna felt weak in her knees and tightened her grip around the phone. "Stay right there and don't hang up. I'll be right there," she said, glancing at Oliver whom she was supporting with her body.
She put the phone on loudspeaker and waved down a cab. She pushed Oliver into the car and wanted to tell the driver his address, but considering how drunk he was, she sighed and got in without speaking. She ordered the cab driver to take them to her place.
Once they arrived, she told the driver to wait outside as she rushed into the apartment building. She used the elevator and as she neared her door, she paused and looked at how she was dressed. She didn't want her sister to see her like this.
She called Ariana on the phone in a panic. "Ariana?!" she called, but there was no reply. She took out her keys and entered the apartment without thinking, with her sister's safety as her priority.
"Look who decided to show up," a man's voice said, his smile sending shivers down her spine.
Donna stopped and looked at the people in her living room. She scanned the room for Ariana and saw her coming in with sliced fruits. Donna sighed in relief. But when Ariana saw her, her eyes widened, and upon seeing Donna's appearance, she narrowed her eyes. This wasn't how Donna usually dressed.
"Donna?" Ariana called, still looking at her sister.
"Ariana, can you please give us some privacy?" Donna asked without looking at Ariana, trying to prevent her from asking unnecessary questions.
Ariana glanced at the men in the room and then at her sister, hesitating for a moment. She sighed and placed the plate of fruits down before turning to head into the bedroom. But before she could leave, she heard Donna's voice.
"Out of the room, please," Donna requested firmly.
Ariana turned and looked at her sister. She could sense that Donna didn't want her to hear their conversation. With many questions swirling in her head, Ariana left the room, closing the door behind her.
With Ariana gone, Donna turned her attention to the leader among the four men, who was staring at her with a smirk.
"Why did you come here? You could have called me, and I would have sent you the money. Leave my sister out of this," she said, glaring at them.
The man chuckled and leaned back, his dark eyes piercing through Donna. "Seems like your sister doesn't know how far you're willing to go to protect her. Well, I'm not here to chat. I want my money. Don't forget what happened to your parents..."
"I'll pay you back, please, just give me some time," she pleaded, interrupting him to avoid hearing about the painful past.
The man frowned. "No, that's what your parents said before their end. I'll give you a month to pay back, and if you don't..."
The man stood up, followed by the other three, and approached Donna. He got close and leaned over, whispering, "Your sister will be gone." With that, they left.
Donna clenched her fists, trying to suppress her emotions. She despised her parents at that moment. If they hadn't borrowed money from those loan sharks after going bankrupt, they wouldn't be in this situation.
She took a deep breath and walked out of the apartment, where Ariana was waiting outside. Ariana seemed to be looking at the elevator, and when she noticed Donna emerging from the building, she looked at her with concern.
"Donna, is everything okay?" Ariana asked.
"Yes, don't worry. They just came to inform me about some things," Donna replied, wanting to leave. But before she could, Ariana started to speak again.
"Why are you dressed like that? You..." Ariana began to question, but Donna cut her off.
"When do you leave for school?" Donna asked.
"Tomorrow," Ariana replied, pursing her lips.
"Good. We'll go out tomorrow to buy your daily necessities. And don't forget to lock the door when I'm gone. Don't open it for people you don't know, okay?" Donna instructed.
Ariana nodded and wanted to say something else but stayed silent when she saw that her sister didn't want to talk further. She watched Donna enter the elevator and then quickly turned and ran back into the building.
The cab arrived at an estate, but the security at the gate initially refused to let them in. However, upon seeing Oliver, whose eyes were shut and who they were familiar with, the security decided to make a call. Soon after, a car pulled up and a woman got out. She walked over to Donna with a warm smile, taking her by surprise.
Donna couldn't take her eyes off Lisa, wondering if she was Oliver's wife.
"I'm Lisa, and this is a friend of my husband," the woman said. "My husband couldn't come to pick him up, so that's why I'm here. Sorry for the trouble"
Lisa turned and asked one of the security to help her take Oliver to her car, she then turned to Donna and asked " what's your name?"
" I'm Madonna" Donna replied
"Thank you, Madonna. Sorry for the trouble," Lisa said before turning to leave.
Well, that was unexpected, Donna thought to herself, realizing that there is much more to be discovered about Oliver's life and the people he associates with.
