To his dismay, he found himself face to face with the last person he wanted to see - his father. Oliver's initial instinct was to close the door, but his father blocked it swiftly, preventing his escape.
"Is that how you treat your own father?" his father exclaimed. Oliver let out a deep sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose, and looked at him with disdain.
"I don't mean to be rude, but if you have nothing important to say, please leave. I don't have the strength to deal with you right now," Oliver replied wearily.
Mr. Frederick, Oliver's father, sneered at his unfilial son. If it weren't for Oliver being the chosen heir of his grandfather, Mr. Frederick wouldn't have bothered with him at all.
"Your grandfather insists on you being the heir, but if it were up to me, I would have..." Mr. Frederick's voice trailed off angrily.
Realizing the futility of the situation, Oliver cut him off, his patience wearing thin. "It seems you don't have anything substantive to say. Please leave while I can still maintain some level of politeness." With that, Oliver turned away, retrieving his apron and putting it back on.
Enraged, Mr. Frederick blurted out without thinking, "You're just like your dead mother - pathetic and good for nothing. I wish you weren't my son, and I never should have married that pathetic woman!" In the heat of the moment, he promptly left, slamming the door behind him.
Oliver who heard that while picking up a brush, paused and he clenched his fist and bent the brush which was in hand. He heard the loud sound of the door closing.
He gritted his teeth and try to calm his self not to do anything stupid. His eyes were red as what his dad just kept ringing in his mind. Thinking about how his mom died and the event that followed after really was tormenting him and that was why he never wanted anything to do with his family.
He dropped the already bent brush, and pulled the apron before dressing up before leaving. Leaving his apartment, no emotions was seen on his face but he was suffering very deep and needed a place to calm down.
He arrived at the nearest club which looked very extravagant and got in. He usually come here anytime his emotions are stirred.
Under neon light flashing, he made his way towards the bar, it was late yet but the place was still bustling with people.
" What do want sir?" The bartender asked after Oliver sat down.
" Give me your strong liquor please" Oliver replied.
His phone beeped, he took it and checked the message that just got in. He saw it was from Jake.
~jake~ hey man, this time around, I have found the perfect lady for you and don't dare reject this one again. I'll send her pics now "
Another beep
~jake~ * picture * looking good right?
~oliver~ Not interested
~jake~ you monk, what is your problem?
Oliver dropped his phone but it continued to beep. He turned it off and took the bottle of the strong liquor and pored it in a glass and down everything in one gulp.
Even with the high burning sensation in his throat, no emotion was shown as he pours another glass and did the same.
He wanted to do the same with the third glass but a hand stopped him by putting it down. He glanced at the hand and then at the lady who just stopped him.
A slight frown appeared on his face before pulling his hand away and gulp everything from the glass. He wanted to pour more but his bottle was snatched away from him before he could react, the lady ruffled his well clean hair and she said. " If you have issues, you should be a man and not be a coward" she said looking straight at him.
Oliver looked very displeased especially about what she just did to his hair.
He looked at her , her long straight hair was dyed pink with a thick mascara on and the black outfit she put on hugged her body showing her perfect curves.
Oliver turned away and called the bartender over and ordered for another drink. He avoided the lady and didn't want to be bothered by this intruder.
" Okay then, if don't want to man up and face your problem then you can just let it out to feel better. I'll listen and accompany you" the lady said and sat beside him.
Oliver was becoming irritated by her presence and turned to her saying " leave!!"
" Nope, I'll stay here with you" the lady replied looking at him.
Oliver looked at her for a while and couldn't see what she was thinking.
" Suit your self" Oliver replied shortly and took the new bottle of liquor and poured it into the glass cup.
The lady sat there looking at how Oliver kept draining each glass of it's content.
This wasn't the first time she is seeing this man here. She works here and she normally get here early to take some shot of gin before her work hour and always sees him here. His looks obviously made her to notice him and after that, she also noticed how disturbed he was everytime he's here but today was on another level entirely.
She doesn't know what happened to him or what he's going through but she could understand how he's feeling and could see her pathetic self in him.
She jolted out of her daze by the sound of glass bottom hitting the table. She saw he was already very drunk as his eyes became sloppy but that didn't stop him from pouring more drinks in the glass cup.
The lady frowned and took both the bottle and glass cup away from him.
" Heyy, give me that " he said drunkenly and tried to snatch it back. He nearly fell which scare the lady as immediately supported him.
" Leave me alone" he said with no strength in him as tried to get away from her.
Oliver was shocked when he found his self in the warm embrace of this female stranger even in his drunken state. The lady didn't know what came over her but she decided to hug him, to give him the assurance that he is not alone in this world. She was surprised that the man in her embrace didn't try to leave her arms. She rubbed his back and pulled away a little to see if he has slept off but to her surprise, his eyes were open starring right at her with eyes filled with tear.
She felt her heart ach, as she saw pain, anger and sadness in those eyes of his.
She sighed and looked around, since this was a club, nobody paid attention to both of them and it was getting darker and crowdy. She looked back at him and patted his head " no matter how hard your life is, you shouldn't make it stop you from being happy okay?" She said looking like she was talking to a child.
Looking at Oliver right now, he seem not his usual aloof self. The lady was taken a back by his movement as he buried his head in her embrace and hugged her back.
She wanted to push him but his voice stopped him " let me stay this way please "
She hesitantly patted his back. She didn't expect this turn of events. At first she wanted to help out but having a grown drunk man hugging her, that made her even rethink about helping him.
After awhile, she pulled him away and asked " I have work to do here, so, tell me where I can drop you off " she said.
Oliver was silent and when she thought he won't answer, he opened his mouth and told her the address.
