Chapter 3 SURROGATE JOB

Although I'm not terrified of losing my virginity, I think about it for a good portion of the afternoon. I don't give a damn that I'm still a virgin. I never intended to wait because sex has never happened for me; no one I've dated has made me yearn for sex, despite the cliché, so I want to hold out for someone special. I want to wait for someone amazing after all this time of waiting.

As the surrogacy program enters its second stage, I'm thinking about losing my virginity. Step two involves asking a lot of private questions. How many hairs does your head consist of? How recently did you engage in sexual activity? When was the last period you had? Although I don't have difficulty responding, I grow weary of continuously responding "Not Applicable."

In between classes, I fill it out. Even though I should be doing my homework, I simply can't help myself. I give my feedback, and I get a confirmation email that states I should hear back from them in around two weeks. It ought to lift my spirits, but it doesn't. That evening, my mother calls me and acts as though she is aware of my thoughts.

What's your dad's current health like? As soon as my duties are over, I return calls. "Mom?" I see she is silent and asks. sobbing on the other end of the line. Because they are so far away, there is nothing I can do.

Mom, just say anything. Please excuse me. I feel like I'm about to vomit, and my heart is pounding.

"Ciara?" Eva is reluctant to acknowledge my younger sister. What is taking place?

She reported that "Dad had another heart attack." He will need a valve transplant, according to medical experts.

I shiver and utter "Oh my god." Has he grasped it? How solid is he exactly?

Mom, though, was really concerned.

"Assure Mom that I'll send money soon. To save your father, instruct the medical staff to use all available means.

Will you be returning home?

I make every attempt to hold back my tears as I say, "I can't." Inform Mom not to worry about money as I won't be enrolling in any more classes. I'll support you. Please look after Dad and her well.

Following the phone call, the situation is making me insane, and I am unable to remain still. However, during the next week or so, I manage to keep myself engaged with both school and my job at the ice cream shop. Homework, work, and school make up my typical day. I've never thought of myself as one of the girls who goes out every weekend. Because I'd need more hours in the week, I'm not sure how they have time to party.

On Thursday, however, I receive the call just as I'm leaving class at around noon. "Hello?"

A female voice says, "Is this Ciara Damien?"

She has come.

That's who I am; my name is Nicole. My organization is Growing Generations.

I immediately felt out of breath as soon as my palm touched my chest. "Right. Hi."

There is a match for you, I stated over the phone. What? I figured you saved pairing for soon after viewing. No matter what "screening" actually entails.

Although you are right, there is a certain person who has expressed interest in you and wants to meet right away.

I don't know who they are.

This person is interested in you and your surrogacy services, despite the fact that I can't tell you over the phone.

It's all happening way too fast. I don't even know what I'm doing.

I hesitantly said, "Great," in my response.

Great, she says again, sounding much happier this time. Miss Damien, my best wishes are with you. We'll see each other shortly. Everyone has a good day.

"Bye," I murmur, and walk away.

This is quite uncomfortable. According to the Growing Generations website, I had to pass a test before I could connect. Additionally, I believed that the strategy should be followed. I must say, I'm getting more and more afraid of this because it seems...shady.

Even though I want to call Flora, I resist the urge since I know it will just make me more worried. I'm acting on my own when I do this.

I was shocked to receive an email because I had been hoping to hear about this mystery.
