CHAPTER TWO

XANDER

I placed the papers down when I heard a soft knock on my office door. I signaled for the person to come in.

"Sir, Ms. Savannah is already here," Kathy announced. I stood up and quickly went outside.

My heart was pounding so fast. I was nervous about how she would react when we see each other. Would she hug me? Or would she kiss me? Damn! I might go crazy.

I took the paper from my side pocket. I wrote down everything I wanted to say to her the moment we meet. With trembling hands, I read it again.

"Xander and I are already over, Ma. Siya pa nga ang nag paalis sa akin eh. So why would he want me to stay?" I froze in my spot when I heard Vannah's voice. I stiffened when she said we are already over. I crumpled the paper and went inside the jet.

"Because you're my wife. Dapat manatili ka kung nasaan ang asawa mo," I told her. She turned to me, and she seemed slightly surprised to see me.

"Xander, anak. Hindi mo man lang ba kakamustahin ang asawa mo?" Dad told me. He gave me a pointed look and then pulled Mom.

"We'll leave you two for now," Mom said before she ushered Dad out. We were left alone inside the jet.

The silence was suffocating. None of us dared to break it.

"Vannah."

"Xander."

She faced me. Dad was right, she looked even more beautiful. I clenched my fist to stop myself from going to her and crushing my lips against hers.

"Please, go ahead," I said. She approached the table and sat down.

"I was looking for my luggage. Where is it?" she asked. I raised an eyebrow at her words.

"In our house. Where else would I put it?"

She laughed.

"Our house? We have one?"

I swallowed.

"Vannah--"

"Please, send it to my hotel. I'll just text Mom to let her know where I'm staying." Then she turned her back on me.

"Vannah, you should go back home," I firmly said. She turned to face me and glared.

"Who are you to tell me what to do?"

SAVANNAH

"Who are you to tell me what to do?!" I almost shouted. He just clenched his jaw and looked at me.

"I am your husband," he said coldly. He stepped closer, and I instinctively took a step back.

"No, you're not," I insisted. He gritted his teeth and pulled my waist.

"You're still the same stubborn Savannah I knew before," he said. I tried to free myself from him, pushing him away, but he was stronger.

"What do you think you're doing, Xander?" I looked at him.

"I am making things right."

I shook my head, and with all my strength, I pushed him away. I was finally free and I quickly distanced myself from him.

"Stop this. Stop whatever you're doing," I told him, then I left him. I walked away from him, away from the man who broke me seven years ago.

"We're getting married!" Sabina shrieked. I looked at her, lowering the book I was reading.

"What?"

She showed me her ring finger.

"Xander proposed to me! Savannah!! He's going to marry me!" She shook me while laughing like a maniac. I forced a smile and hugged her.

"Congratulations, Sabina," I said. But deep inside, my heart was breaking.

"I'm going to tell Mom." Then she left. I was left alone in our room. I quickly went to the bathroom and cried my heart out.

For the past six years, Xander and I became the best of friends. But he only saw me as a friend because ever since we were kids, he's always been into Sabina. I never had a chance to tell him how I felt. I was scared. I was afraid that I would ruin the friendship we had, so I just endured it quietly.

And now, they're getting married? I've completely lost hope that Xander will ever love me back.

I cried and cried. I didn't even know how long I'd been in the bathroom. I hoped that after crying, all the pain I felt would go away.

I woke up feeling a little disoriented. I checked my bedside clock and saw that it was already seven in the evening. I stood up and nearly stumbled when I saw Xander sitting at the edge of my bed.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I shouted. I instinctively held my chest and slowly moved away from the bed.

"Watching my wife sleep," he said, his gaze fixed on me.

"Go away," I told him. I grabbed some clothes and headed straight for the bathroom, but he blocked my way.

"Are you taking a shower?"

I raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, now you care?"

"Let's shower together," he suggested. He started unbuttoning his shirt. I grabbed his hand and forcefully stopped him.

"Stop that!"

He grinned.

"Why? It's not like it's anything new to you."

I kicked him. My face was now red. My heart was racing.

"Xander, this is not funny!" I started to panic when he unbuckled his belt.

"We're just going to take a shower. We're not going to do anything else. You're quite imaginative," he said, laughing. I pushed him into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

"You go ahead and shower, you jerk!"

I could hear his hearty laughter from inside. Oh, if I could just strangle him!
