Chapter 4 A desperate plea for help.

"What?" Lucas exclaimed, his eyes widening in disbelief.

"Yes, darling. I'm carrying your child," Amelia said, her voice dripping with a mix of confidence and mischief, as she moved closer to him, her hand resting gently on his arm.

I stood by, leaning against the door, feeling a pang of hurt watching the scene unfold. The thought of him being with someone else, sleeping with someone else, and impregnating another woman stabbed at my heart. It was a painful image to bear.

Swallowing hard, I turned my gaze away, not wanting to witness any more of this confrontation. Instead, I focused my mind on my children, who were currently missing. Lucas was only here to help, and I had no intention of reigniting any past emotions.

"That... that can't be true," Lucas stammered, his voice filled with both confusion and denial.

I whipped my head around, my eyes fixed on him, waiting for his response.

"What can't be true?" Amelia asked, her expression shifting to a frown.

Lucas pulled his arm away from her grasp, his voice firm and resolute. "I have never been intimate with you. Never. Don't try to deceive me with such trivial thoughts. The child in your belly is not mine."

I gasped, my hand instinctively flying to cover my mouth in shock.

Amelia nonchalantly flipped her hair, a sly smile forming on her lips. "You may not believe me now, Lucas, but trust me when I say we will talk later, and I mean it. This child is undeniably yours."

With those words, Amelia turned on her heels and strode towards the door, shooting me a menacing glare before huffing and slamming the door shut behind her.

After Amelia stormed out, leaving a trail of tension in her wake, the room fell into an uneasy silence. It had been five long years since Lucas and I had seen each other, and the weight of those years hung heavily in the air.

I could feel Lucas's gaze on me, his eyes searching for any traces of the past in my face. Trying to ease the palpable tension, he mustered a weak smile and said, "Your hair... it's grown longer."

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his attempt to relive the awkwardness. "Lucas, that's not what's important right now," I replied, my voice tinged with urgency. "Our kids are missing. That's all that matters."

He nodded, his expression growing serious. "You're right, Mia. Our kids... finding them is our priority."

Silence engulfed the room, suffocating us with the weight of our shared worry. In that moment, Lucas gathered the courage to make a heartfelt request, his voice filled with longing, "Can I see a picture of Noah? One of our triplets? I... I mean it would be nice to know."

My heart wrenched at his plea, realizing how much he must have missed in their lives. With trembling hands, I reached into my bag and pulled out a worn photograph of our little boy. As I handed it to him, I watched as a myriad of emotions crossed his face - longing, joy, and a hint of sadness.

His voice cracked as he whispered, "Noah... my son. He really does look like me. He has my dark eyes."

Tears welled up in my eyes, mirroring the pain and longing that had resided within me for so long. Our connection, once broken, now found solace in the image of our precious child. It was a bittersweet moment, filled with the intensity of our shared love and the anguish of our separation.

As Lucas stared at the photograph, his fingers tracing the contours of Noah's face, a surge of emotions washed over us both. We were no longer estranged lovers, but two desperate parents bound by the unbreakable bond of family.

He looked at me with his dark, piercing eyes, his hand trembling slightly as he handed me back the photograph. His voice was laced with a mix of confusion and hurt as he ran a hand through his hair and uttered the question that had been tormenting him, "Why didn't you tell me?"

A fire ignited within me, fueled by years of pent-up anger and resentment. I took a step closer, my voice laced with bitterness and frustration. "You really want to know, Lucas?" I retorted, my tone filled with a hint of sarcasm. "Let's revisit that moment when you found yourself a fianceé, shall we? The moment you decided I was no longer worthy of your time and love."

His eyes widened, a flicker of remorse crossing his features, but I refused to let it soften my resolve. I continued, my voice laced with anger and hurt. "You shunned me away, Lucas. You cast me aside without a second thought, without giving me a chance to speak, to explain. You abandoned me when I needed you the most."

He opened his mouth, searching for words that could somehow justify his actions, but I silenced him with a wave of my hand. "No, don't even try. You don't get to play the victim here. You left me broken and alone, and I had to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart while raising our children."

Tears welled up in my eyes, a mix of sadness and frustration. "You think I didn't want to tell you? That I didn't yearn for you to be a part of our children's lives? You were gone, Lucas. And every time I looked at our kids, I was reminded of the pain and abandonment I felt because of you."

The room grew heavy with the weight of our past, the air thick with unspoken apologies and regrets. We stood there, locked in a battle of words and emotions, both realizing the irreversible damage that had been done.

Lucas took a step closer, his voice filled with remorse. "Mia, I... I never meant to hurt you. I was foolish and blind. I should have been there for you."

A tear escaped my eye as I stared into his remorseful gaze. "Regret won't change the past, Lucas. We can't undo what has been done. But now, our children are missing, and we need to focus on finding them. They are the only ones who matter. The past is in the past."

For a moment, the anger and spite dissipated, leaving behind a flicker of shared pain and a glimmer of hope. We stood there, facing the consequences of our choices, knowing that our journey to find our missing children would test our limits, but perhaps, just perhaps, it could also help heal the wounds of our shattered past.

"Alright. It's all in the past but I hope that I would be able to be in their lives after we find them"

I nodded.

Lucas then continued. "Tell me their names and the powers they have and why you think they may have been kidnapped"
