Chapter 4 THE AGREEMENT...

I woke up and checked my phone. Drevy's messages, which were the last thing I viewed before tossing my phone, came up when I unlocked it. I read the messages again, deciding if I should save his number or not.

Why should I in the first place? Though he asked me to be his reading partner which I'm regretting now that I'm thinking about it.

I should rethink my decision, I'll tell him I can't be his reading partner. Not that I'll go and meet him to tell him but if we just happen to cross part and he initiates a conversation with me, that will give me the go-ahead to decline my accepted offer.

I looked at Brelany who was still sleeping. She deserves an award for being the most sleeping girl ever! She's just sleeping comfortably while I spent most of the night tossing around the bed.

I'm not a comfortable sleeper. The tiniest noise can wake me up but she's different. Even the loudest noise can't keep her awake.

I dilly-dallied, deciding if I should wake her up or not... We still have four hours before classes, so if I should have her up, she will throw a fit saying it's 'too early' and if I don't, she will blame me for not being a good friend because I didn't wake her up.

I agreed to give it a try by waking her up, at least she wouldn't tell me I'm a bad friend. I went to her,

"Brelany, wake up, let's start getting ready for class." I shook her gently,

"Please leave me alone," she mumbled and faced the other side.

Well, I tried my best... Applaud my efforts, so if any conversation about not waking her comes up in the next four hours, I'll be able to defend myself.

I went to the bathroom to do the morning routine and dress up. I packed my things and made my way to the entrance of the room,

"So you are going to leave without me" Her voice startled me.

"No, I tried waking you up but you didn't bulge" I quickly defended myself.

I thought I'd be having this conversation in less than four hours, but she woke up earlier than I expected.

"Baby girl, we still have less than three hours to go, so why the rush? No lecturers will give you marks for coming early to class," She said.

"Better than going late to class and losing some marks" I countered.

"You got me there though, but your punctuality is out of place, I mean out of this world. Even the lecturers won't be awake by this time of the day, it's six a.m. For crying out loud!" She paused for a while, and gave me a cute smile...

I know that smile.. that's not just any smile... That is the smile she gives if she wants to take a displeased favour from me. That smile is one of the things I have known about her ever since I met her.

Before I could even say 'no' to her unsaid request, she beat me to it,

"Can you please give me just Forty minutes to dress up, please?? I won't take much of your time," She jumped out of her bed and scooted to the bathroom without waiting for my answer.

"How ironic is that! You won't take much of my time, but you took 40 minutes!" I called out to her.

"You know I love you girl, and I'll always do!" She called back at me from the bathroom. I smiled and went back to my bed to sit down.

She came out thirty minutes later, got dressed and packed her things in her bag.

"Railah, I'm done... Let's hit the road." She said. I stood up and went out of the room first.

"I hope I didn't leave anything behind, because I can't afford to come back since you didn't make me take my time," She said, glancing around the room.

"Don't blame me for that. Even if you take your time without me being in the picture of your hastiness, you do leave your things behind, so don't use it as an excuse if you later find out you did," I called her out.

"That's not a nice thing to say to someone who is trying to catch up with you," She interjected. She came out of the room and locked the door, then we headed out to our destination.

We got to the front of the faculty building and stopped to get snacks in front of a kiosk allocated there.

"You didn't tell me what transpired between you and Drevy yesterday," She said. "Why did he come to meet you?"

"He just said he needs my help and we will talk better next time," I said. I chose not to tell her about the encounter later last night.

"He barely even knows you, so what help can he get from someone he doesn't even know? Maybe he wants to be your friend using that as an excuse" she declared.

'He wants me to be his reading partner so that I can help him with some difficulties in his classes, which I accepted last night, but I'm reneging on it....'

I couldn't tell her that. If I should, she will question me on it and those questions might lead me to tell her about last night. Certainly, she will create a scene about it.

"I don't know... maybe if we 'talk better next time' as he said " I chose to play being clueless...

"Maybe you will find out now" She fixed her gaze in the opposite direction. I followed her gaze and saw Drevy coming toward us.

"I'll be waiting for you inside" She whispered, collected the snacks we got from the kiosk owner and went inside the building.

"What's up partner," He smiled at me.

"I am reneging on the offer. So, I don't own that name." I stated.

"You can't reverse what you agreed on, a deal is a deal and it was sealed yesterday. Whatever you say after that is considered null and void, so you can't take back your words." He objected.

'Give it up for an up-and-coming lawyer' My subconscious mocked him.

"You coerced me into it, You used my book to threaten me so I didn't have a choice but to act against my will. So, I can rescind the deal since it was done under duress." I sustained. I made eye contact with him and gave him a stern look.

He frowned at me while I maintained my stern look. He came closer to me, still maintaining eye contact.

"Are you trying to play a law game with me right now??" He asked,

"If you are doing that, you got yourself the right guy because I know absolutely nothing about that!" He proclaimed.

That erupted a burst of laughter between us. We laughed for a while and stopped,

"But c'mon... Okay, fine! Just for two weeks till after the exam. Trust me, I'll be off your neck after that since you don't want to be stuck with me. Just don't change your mind please..." He begged and gave me a puppy look.

The way he did that suited his face perfectly, adding a touch of playfulness to his already attractive appearance.

I love dogs, so his eyes resembling those of a sweet little innocent puppy make my heart melt in an instant.

Don't get me wrong, it's just hard to resist being captivated by that cute expression.

"Okay fine, I won't change my mind, since you don't take 'no' for an answer " I feign annoyance.

"Not that I don't take no for an answer, I just find ways to make things work for me. That's more like one of my charms" He pointed out.

"Your charm is threatening people with books and law?? That's a wrong method to use you know, You can be jailed for that" I said jokingly, but my tone stated otherwise.

"Pardon my method, ma'am, I'll do my best to change," He said and bowed.

I almost laughed but stopped instantly,

'Should you be here? You have a class that will start any time soon!' My subconscious echoed loudly in my head.

"Oh! crap! I have to go." I exclaimed. With haste, I dashed inside the building, making a beeline for my class.
