Chapter 4 THE BEGINNING

"How are you feeling?" Larentia asked, she was the village midwife. She has been the one taking care of me since Ulva.

"Not too well, the baby keeps kicking and is not very funny anymore. When can I be able to know the gender the suspense is too much"

"Let me guess Caleb wants to know if he is having a boy this time around"

"Well he is not the only one who wants to know, I want to have a male child this time around"

"Lupita your child will be great regardless of what gender your baby will be"

"I know but I still want a male child" I said, rubbing my hands on my big growing baby bump.

"If you keep that up then the moon goddess might answer your prayers"

"I hope she does"

"You are a water werewolf, your people are considered the closest to the moon goddess"

"I know but that doesn't mean she answers our prayers more than the other packs"

"Come sit let's see why this little cutie is kicking so hard"

I laid down and allowed Larentia to do her thing. She gave me a few exercises to do which I found very stressful.

It wasn't this difficult when I was pregnant with Ulva. She has been the sweetest child so far. Being the princess of my pack when I was growing up was all wonderful, but today I have a husband, a child and another on the way.

My husband Caleb is the chief of our village, he was once my brother's beta until we got married. I met Caleb at Ashenmoon pack, when I was still the little princess of my father, the alpha of Ashenmoon.

I had no idea why my brother chose a beta outside our pack but I guess their friendship brought them together.

And today that friendship brought my husband to me. He was the best I could ever ask for.

"Mum!Mum!!" I heard Ulva calling for me, I guess piggy back riding is over for today. Is a father and daughter thing, whereby Ulva uses her father as her horse as they run around the whole pack.

"Hey sweetie, how is my lovely wife and child this morning?"

"Well your baby keeps kicking and is not getting funny anymore"

"Sorry sweetie, why don't you go and sit down while I make breakfast" he said, pecking my cheeks before doing the same to my baby bump.

"Thanks honey, you are the best" I said before I sat down and watched him cook while Ulva narrated how the day went for her.

Once breakfast was ready we all went to the dining room to eat.

"Honey, this is good. Why don't you retire from your leading duty and be my chef I will pay you"

"I wish I could, but you know how important this is. We are the strongest pack so far and we can't...."

"Can't let our guard down or we might be attacked or worse another pack can move to the top, we must remain at the top" I cut him off completing the rest of his statement for him.

"How come you know that already?"

"Because that's what you always say whenever I want to spend time with you. I miss you, I miss us, I just don't get it anymore" I know I was complaining too much but these days he barely has time for us.

"Honey, I know I have not been available much but I will once the prince's birthday party is over"

"What about the ranking meeting, is that cancelled?"

"Nope, that would be in three days but I will be leaving tomorrow with the alpha"

"I really don't get why you will be doing the work of the king's beta"

"That's because the king's formal beta has retired and he trusts me better than the rest of the chiefs"

"I feel like you are more devoted to them than to your family. We are supposed to come first in everything"

"I know sweetie, but the king will be choosing a new beta by the end of our ranking meeting"

"He better do it, this stomach is not getting smaller, instead it is becoming bigger. And that is when I need you the most"

"I know sweetie, I promise to make it up to you"

"Mum!!!" Ulva screamed.

"Oh my God, here goes my hearing. Ulva what is your problem"

"I can't reach my food," she said, pointing her lips. I sighed in frustration while Caleb was laughing his ass off. I leaned down and increased the height of her seat so she could reach the table.

"You better grow up fast so you can take care of yourself and your baby brother" I told her but she ignored me and started eating.

"Sweetie give her some credit, she is just five"

"Since you won't be around for three days am thinking of going to visit my mum, if that's okay with you"

"Sure I don't see why not. My regards to the queen and also to the king"

"Nope you are not doing that regard thing with me, if you want to see them do that yourself"

Our chat continued until he had to go again. I kissed him goodbye as he did the same to Ulva before he left.
