Chapter 7 The Unfair Life

Lisa's POV

Lucian's face is very close to mine and I'm nervous. It's happening again. The moment when it looks like he's about to kiss me, only for him to go back to being a jerk. I stiffen and clear my throat nervously.

"Ar-aren't we supposed to be somewhere?" I ask, absolutely looking down. I try so hard not to gaze at him anymore.

He looks embarrassed so he clears his throat and stiffens.

"Yes, of course. Just.. don't ruin this for me with whatever animosity you're feeling right now." He says and opens the door to the passenger seat on the left side. He gestures for me to go in through that part but I ignore him and go all the way around to the driver's seat. I can hear him sigh.

"Scott, if you don't mind, I'll sit next to you."

I gaze at Scott, pleading to him with my eyes to go with the flow of my act.

"Uhh..yeah..sure... whatever" he responds.

I know Scott hates Lucian so much, so I'm using that to my advantage. He absolutely wouldn't care if Lucian was offended by my act.

"Don't speak to my wife like that." Lucian bellows to Scott's amusement.

"Heh. Well, so-rry, Mr "I have a wife that I treat terribly." Scott responds in sarcasm.

"Shut up Scott!" Lucian barks, nearly losing his cool. At this point, I feel sorry for him.

He gets into the car and Scott does the same. The ride would be silent, except that Scott has the car stereo playing music.

"Wise...men...say...only fools, rush in.. but I.. can't..help... falling in love... with you.."

"Turn that thing off!" Lucian agonizingly pleads. It seems the song is tormenting the core of his being.

I'm a little amused.

Scott obeys and commands.." Alexa, play a country song."

"Okay. Playing coat of many colors, by Dolly Parton." The machine responds as the song begins to play.

I like this song but I refuse to sing along. I choose to bore myself throughout the occasion just to ensure that my terrible reality is experienced at every point.

"I can tell you like the song." Comes Scott's voice interrupting my stream of thoughts.

"Oh...no, not really...I just.." I try to brush off the conversation...

"Oh, I didn't know religious people lied." He smirks.

I smile and keep quiet. I don't know what would happen if Scott and I continued our conversation to Lucian's hearing. It would be too rude of me, and I'm not insensitive like him.

Lucian's POV

She's laughing and being chatty with Scott. That madman. I don't have time for this nonsense. The mission is for the investors to sign the trillion-dollar contract. I'm glad Mrs Young's appeal came in the nick of time.

"We should be at the airport soon. I'm sure you reserved the first-class seats for myself and Lisa." I tell Scott...

"Yeah sure " he responds hesitantly.

I almost curse at him but I comport myself.

I glance at Lisa, whose hair is wrapped up in a bun. She's so gorgeous, that my gaze is locked on her. I don't realize that I'm still staring when the car comes to a halt.

Scott gets out of the car and so does Lisa.

Scott knocks on the window beside me about three times before I come to.

"Oh.." I'm embarrassed that I've been absent-minded. I sigh with stress.

My life right now hasn't been this worrisome in a pretty long while.

"Well, go on. What are you waiting for??" I say, dismissively.

"Well, you. We have two hours to arrive at the venue of the meeting. It'll take at least an hour, and thirty minutes to get to Boston." Scott smartly explains.

"Okay. Lisa, for the sake of the public, please hold my hand." I say.

"What public? This is just 4 a.m." she spits back at me. I'm a little surprised at her sassiness.

"For someone who looks and acts so innocent, you sure have a fiery tongue. Oh, and I hear you're a Christian. Is this how Christians behave?" I say, almost mockingly.

Lisa's POV

His statement is careless but I choose not to respond, so he continues.

"There are cameras everywhere you go and every hour of the day. It doesn't matter what time, especially when you're a public figure. So I need to be on guard."

I scoff at his words.

"Oh, so you're not worried that the so-called cameras could catch you canoodling with several women? Or is that what makes you a public figure? Proclaimed billionaire CEO, much known for his thriving consensual sexual relationships with Ladies all over the coast. " I snap back at him and somehow, I'm enjoying the bickering.

Scott suddenly bursts out in laughter.

"Ouuhh, that oughta hurt somewhere! " He says.

"Lisa.. watch your tongue." Lucian's words flow coarsely from his mouth.

Silence falls again.

I move closer to Lucian as he holds out his hand and beams at me. His green eyes are deep, they happen to engulf one when they look at it. His lips are full but rightly proportioned. I put my hand in his and feel a surge of passion flow through my body.

I almost gasp but I comport myself.

He gently holds my hand as we make our way through the airport.

Scott is trotting behind us. I sense that his gaze is fixated on me but I do not concern myself.

Surely enough, someone with a camera emerges from nowhere and begins taking pictures of us.

I'm shook.

Lucian curves his body a little to shield me, while Scott moves forward and shoves the person away.

Quickly, Lucian grabs my hand tightly as we make a run for it. I'm surprised he doesn't go through that process of being checked in.

We quickly get to our terminal. The plane is standing right before us and we enter, straight into the first class room.

There aren't many passengers on the plane and I wonder why.

Lucian's POV

"See? I told you. Anywhere, anytime, they could come for you." I say, settling on my seat.

Lisa is still unamused.

"Didn't you say that you wanted the camera to capture me? Why did you protect me?" She asks with a lot of curiosity.

"Ah .. heh, I wouldn't exactly call it protection. Heh, don't make it sound like something out of a Romance novel. " I jest, though I see she's not having it.

"I don't know why I shielded you, Lisa. My body moved before my brain I guess. Though these people are good at what they do, and I bet you'll be all over the news today. " I say.

"Heh..so much for the shielding.." she says and bursts out laughing. Her laughter is beautiful and I smile.

"Thank you. You acted a little reasonably." She says. I flash a little smile and gaze at her. She's seated opposite me.

"Shouldn't my wife be sitting beside me?" I say, teasingly.

"No... Franca should be sitting beside you."

She teases back but somehow, I trace a hint of hurt in her voice.

I know that whatever smiles we share are only momentary. My intention is to not consummate our fake marriage and make her hate me until I annul the marriage.

Most of all, I want to use her as a trump card to get the multi-million-dollar contract before that snake, Damian gets his hands on it.

That idiot isn't even married but he sure knows how to play dirty. I'll never forgive him.

"Blast you Damian!" I say, out of my head causing a little stir up in Lisa.

"Huh?" She says.

I ignore her immediately.

"Lucian, are you alright?" She gets up from her seat and walks over to mine, settling beside me. I'm a bit nervous.

"I'm... I'm okay.." I say, looking away from her.

"Apparently you're not. You're trying to hide something. I know this is only a fake Marriage that you've been disrespecting. But I am a reputable young lady and I respect all things. It's only fair that we respect each other and act a little friendly. It really wouldn't hurt." She says, ever so reasonably. Lisa is a beautiful woman and a blessing to a family.

I'm guilty of using her like this, under the guise of helping her father.

"Lisa.." I look back at her, drowning in her magnificent aura.

"You really don't have to concern yourself. Like you said, it's a fake marriage so we don't need to get close or anything like that. We're using each other. I'm using you, you're using me. We don't have to do anything unnecessary." I say, coldly. My conscience bites me because I know my words are hurtful to her... and myself.

"I'm not going to sleep with you. I'll keep bringing in girls because I am not genuinely married to you.." I declare with a weight of sadness pulling my heart down.
