Chapter 2 So curious to know

Abel's POV

On leaving the cafeteria, I moved directly to my office. I was very angry for not controlling myself when my cousin introduced us. Why did I flirt with her earlier? I even called her an angel. During the intro, I thought she fancied me. I gave her all my manly smiles and even appreciated her beauty. Why did she sort of ignore me at the cafeteria?

I settled down in my seat and decided to check out her profile. Since her uncle's name was Peters, I guessed her social media name would be Lyn Peters while I was searching for her name. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it. So I called Benita to inquire about her. The minute I told her what I was searching for, she nearly screamed.

"Oh mine, my handsome cousin is hooked. I told you that you would like her but you refused to be introduced. Oh mine". I heard her chuckle.

"Come on Benny, stop jumping to conclusions. I didn't say I like her okay? I just want to check out her profile on social networks". I defended myself.

"Is that so, oh okay then. Why not call her up and ask her whatever you want to know. Lyn is a very sweet and simple person, she will respond to you freely". She chuckled again.

"No need to call her Benny, I just want her Facebook account username because I have tried Lyn Peters but the ones that appeared were not hers". I replied.

I reasoned it but I didn't trust I could bring myself to do that. I tried to get from her but she was not yielding.

"Why do I feel that you seemed desperate to check out her profile". She asked me.

I got a bit angry with her words as I replied, "Desperate? Come on Benny, if you don't want to give it to me, then keep it but don't use that word for me again because I am not desperate. I am just curious, okay. Bye".

I cut the call in anger and stood up. Then walk over to the window overlooking the hospital vicinity.

"Damn it, desperate my foot. Why would she even think that? I am just curious to know more about her so I can figure out why she didn't hover around me like every other girl I got introduced to".

I picked up my phone and searched again but still couldn't find Lyn Peters whose profile portrayed that she was a dancer. I hissed.

"Damn it, Benny, you could be annoying sometimes. What is the big deal in giving me the names".

That instant a message from Benny entered. I rushed to open it but it was just Lyn's number that she sent. Telling me to call her if I was dying of curiosity. In anger, I dropped the phone and decided to remove my mind from searching for the name anymore. I went over to the fridge and drank the chilled juice l left there in the morning. Then I left the office and went about my work.

During working hours, I tried keeping myself as busy as I could and interacting with the patients. I went as far as working where I was not needed just to keep my thoughts free of her but she kept popping up in my head often and on. I kept hearing her sweet voice saying, "I am not crazy at all". I went home after work, showered, and ate my dinner early.

Then went up straight to my room. I picked up my phone and searched more with the hope that I would find what I was looking for but I didn't. I hissed, "Damn it".

Then I picked up the television remote, lay down on my bed, and turned on the television. I kept changing from one station to another but nothing seemed to capture my interest. So I turned it off and decided to play a game on my phone. The game too wasn't interesting enough because my thoughts kept hovering around her. I couldn't get her voice and smile off my head.

Then the voice in my head started, "Come on Abel, you like the girl. Why not call her up and ask her what her social network name is? Besides, you don't have to be angry just because she didn't give you the attention you used to get from other girls".

I reasoned those words and it kind of made sense. What if she was pretending not to be interested? What if she tried to avoid my eyes because she liked me and was feeling shy? What if she just wants me to make the first move? After all, when I talked to her earlier she was responding happily. Even when I offered my hands she took it willingly. As I held on she also held on. She didn't try to withdraw her hand. The way she stared at me before my cousin introduced us was beautiful. She noticed me.

I stepped down from my bed and walked over to the dressing table. I stood staring at myself in the mirror. I was smiling as I checked out my features. It had been a long time since I looked at myself like that. To check if I was still looking very handsome. I was not looking bad at all. I would get her to fall for me.

Then I paused, "What if she is rich?" I don't want to deal with any rich girl. They seemed to be arrogant and good at breaking people's hearts. I wanted someone who would love me for me, not for money.

The voice came again, "Abel, did you just say love? Are you falling for her already? You don't even know anything about her. Oh mine, is it love at first sight?". I said, "No". I realized that I had been smiling all along as I stared in the mirror. I left the mirror and pinched myself,

"Guy get a grip on yourself" as I walked to my bed and settled in. I closed my eyes but it was only her smiling face I saw.

I couldn't relax, so I picked up my phone and stared at the number Benny sent. I decided to save it as my mystery girl. I smiled asking myself why I saved her number. I responded to myself that I wanted to know more about her. I wanted to know why she seemed different. Yes, she was different from them all. Maybe I should just call her up and get it over with. I opened my phone and clicked the call button on my mystery girl. It started buzzing. My heartbeat started misbehaving. I became very tense and cut the call immediately.

"Oh damn it", I put my hand on my chest. "Guy, what is the matter with you? Why are you beating that fast, hmm? You are making me uncomfortable". I sat up on the bed and tried to relax.

Then picked up the phone again, and dialed the number. As it started buzzing again, my heart started beating faster again. I couldn't do it so I cut the call again and dropped my phone.

In anger, I hissed, "Shit" and lay down back. I couldn't sleep. I kept turning from right to left thinking of how to sort the issue. Then my phone started buzzing. My heart jumped in fear. "Damn, what is the matter with you guy. Do you want to get an attack". As I placed my hand on my chest. I picked up the phone, it was my mystery girl. I stared at the phone frozen until it stopped buzzing.

I tried to relax and wondered why I didn't pick up the call. I got down and walked around trying to calm my nerves. Then told myself to be a man and be in control. Then the number started buzzing again. I breathed in and out and picked up but couldn't say a word.
