Chapter 4 Partners in Obscurity

CHAPTER FOUR

Meredith began making her way in search of Carolyn. Carolyn was already tipsy by the time she found her.

"Oh Meredith, how did it go?" she was curious.

"Let's move over to the bar, it's quieter there, so I can tell you all about it" Meredith suggested.

"Ok, let's go" obviously, Carolyn won't rest easily until she learns every detail of what has happened to Meredith final date with her sister's boyfriend.

They work over to the bar, it was quieter there. And they were able to here each other without shouting the music and the others at the venue.

"You look like hell did something happen?" Carolyn asked.

"Well, I guess the romantic date was more than I predicted" she laughed

"So, what happened?" Carolyn asked.

"Laura came there, she met us at it and poor Laura was frustrated" she said.

"My God, Meredith you're so bad" Carolyn tease.

"It wasn't really my fault you know?!, She Wasn't invited" Meredith puts on a baby doll face.

"Wait, baby wait...... did she catch you red handed? I mean right then and there?" Carolyn could not believe.

" Yes, we were really on it. But don't forgot girl we still need to celebrate" Meredith said.

"Yeah, let's order some champagnes for your success baby" Carolyn was really happy.

As the both wait for their order to come , Meredith received a text message from her secretary. It was a business deal offer but George who has invited her to join him at a restaurant to discuss is proposal this evening.

"What is it?" Carolyn asked

"My secretary sent me an email, saying I have a meeting date with George at ta's restaurant" she explained.

"Oh, George the hottie. You don't needs to be late, Harry quickly go freshen up" Carolyn walked back to the dance floor while Meredith left the club.

At Laura's apartment.

Laura took her time to rest through out the afternoon. At evening, she decided to prepare herself for the appointment she has with Mr. George at eight tonight.

She was dressed in an elegant one shoulder long sleeve black prom dress with a sexy side split floor level, match with a per of scarpin black heels. Her hair was tied up on a ponytail with a golden neckless on her neck.

Laura's car stop in front of a familiar restaurant. This restaurant was mostly for high class individuals.

At Ta's restaurant.

Laura walked in, she sighted Mr. George at the corner and walked towards him with graceful steps.

"Hello George!" Laura smiled at him but her smile suddenly faded when she heard a familiar voice behind her.

A strong presence overshadows her, which summons her attention. And she turned to see even though she already knows that annoying voice belongs to Meredith.

"Hello George, hope I'm not late?" it was Meredith, walking towards them with a bright smile. George quickly move to adjust a seat for her and without wasting of time, Meredith sat down and cross her legs elegantly.

"Its you again..?" Laura asked

"Yes, it's me" Meredith answer like she was flattered.

"What are you doing here?" Laura paste on her best costume ready smile, not wanting any ears to now their family problems. "can I help you" Laura said in a low tune , not knowing who's in earshot of their conversation as Mr. George was currently there.

"As a matter of fact, I should be the one to help with your bag out of here... cuss you presence is not needed".

Laura was dump founded, she could not register what was happening... What is Meredith even talking about, who amongst them was invited for dinner tonight?, So why on Earth will George and Meredith be having meeting now that it was supposed to be her.

"Sorry Laura, I forgot to inform you that our dinner was council. I heard about everything and the sudden transfer of heir to Meredith and decided to make a deal with her instead" he said. Taking his full concentration to Meredith they continue to discuss without minding her presence.

"Oh!, I didn't realize.... Thank you, I'll just.." Laura step out of the restaurant and hurried across the streets. 'I definitely need something hot now ' she said to herself.

Picking up her phone, she checked the time it was pass 8 o'clock already. She decides to visit a small but equally luxurious bar.

She sat at the bar canter and order two glass of liquor and drank it all at once. Not satisfy, she other two more. But before she could consume it, someone bump into her shoulders from behind. Hard.

Laura cringe as her glasses scatters to the ground... but the offender continues walking right by her.

'God, the nerve of this guy!' Laura cause bitterly. "Hey, watch it...you could've injured me you know?" Laura cried out loud but the annoying man seems not to bother.

"Hey, I'm talking to you" she shouted loud and then the man turns around, stopping all her thoughts from processing.

His deep, piercing eyes freeze her in place and the only thought she can process was how gorgeous he is.... And how embarrassed she was for picking an argument with him.

"You're talking to me?, I couldn't tell after all that shouting!" his cold voice ran out.

'My God, who does he think he is to talk that way?' Laura was not happy with his reply. " My shouting?" she asked.

"Yes... I'm standing right in font of you, so why should you be shouting like that!?" He asked.

"I know you are, you bump into me and nearly knock me over" she reported.

"Nearly, is the keyword here" he smirked at her.

"Well, you definitely knocked my glass... Just take a look on what you have done"

"Seems like it" was all he said.

"What is your problem?" Laura could not believe this man.

"Don't worry Miss hooligan , I can order more than what you can carry if you want" he said boldly.
