Chapter 2 Unexpected Meeting

[The Mentor Who Changed Everything]

A pleasant glow was spread over the city's busy streets once the sun burst through the clouds. John, who had recently graduated from college, was travelling to a prominent financial business for his first job interview. As he entered the gleaming, contemporary structure, his pulse beat with a mixture of anxiety and exhilaration.

He adjusted his tie while looking in the lobby's glass panel to see his reflection. He heard a voice say, "Hold the elevator, please!" as he got close to the elevator. A well-dressed man entered and thanked John with a nod when John immediately hit the "door open" button.

The man answered with a pleasant smile, "Thank you for that. By the way, my name is Richard Turner.

He said, "John Stevenson," offering a handshake. Mr. Turner, nice to meet you.

Richard looked at John's clothes as the elevator rose. It sounds like you're having a job interview.

John said, his enthusiasm clear, "Yes, at Harrison Investments."

Richard brow-furrowed. Do you mean Harrison Investments? I'm acquainted with Michael Harrison, the founder. Nice guy. stern yet just.

John's pupils became larger. You know Michael Harrison, right? That's fantastic!"

Richard chuckled. "Well, I should clarify. I used to work closely with him. Now I'm semi-retired, but I still consult on occasion."

The floor John was going to enter the elevator saw the doors open. Richard held out his hand as they exited. "John, if you want to create a good impression, tell Michael about me. You may gain a minor advantage from it.

John felt a surge of gratitude. I appreciate it, Mr. Turner. I'm incredibly grateful for this.

He waved it away, "Just Richard is great. I wish John luck in his endeavour.

John felt accomplished as he exited the building following the interview. Richard was a man he connected with because he had taken the route he wanted to. In the interview, he made the decision to follow Richard's advice and bring up his name. This seemed to buy him a few additional minutes of talk with the interviewers.

John got a call a week later informing him that Harrison Investments had made him an offer. He accepted without hesitation, filled with joy.

John's respect for the financial sector grew as time went on in his new work. He put in a never-ending effort, learning all he could, and showing a level of commitment that impressed his superiors-including Michael Harrison himself.

One afternoon, John unexpectedly got a lunch invitation from Richard through email. Richard talked to them about his career in finance, the obstacles he had to overcome, and the lessons he had discovered. He also underlined how crucial ethics and integrity are in the world of finance.
