It's been a week since her boss' death and Lyra has been in and out of the local police station all week for questioning and to give her statement. They said something about the case possibly having the FBI on board because their suspected victim is a dangerous man with previous criminal activities.
So all these while, they had been referring to Mr. Adams? The simple business owner? Lyra found it hard to believe.
The policeman paused at a certain page, his fingers pressed on each word as he silently read through the page. Afterwards, he shut the file and pushed it away then turned to face Lyra.
"Well, there's more to what meets the eyes with Adam Athens. He may seem apparently harmless, but it's quite the opposite actually. Adam Athens is the capo of a famous North American drug syndicate." The policeman stated and Lyra's eyes widened, as she was taken aback by the unexpected twist.
"Really? Like a mafia then?"
He shook his head, "Not quite, but with similar operational dynamics. In simple terms, he's a really ruthless drug dealer."
"Oh."
"Yes Lyra. The case has been taken over by the FBI and it is mandated that you are placed under witness protection." The policeman stated and Lyra stared at him with arched brows, confused on the term he had just stated.
"Witness Protection?"
"Yes. You witness the murdering of a man, who was killed by a very dangerous personality and the police would do everything within their power to make sure he's caught. Should Adam know about this, he would try to kill you too, since you're the only 'evidence' that proves that he actually killed him. So the witness protection involves assigning members of the police force to protect the witness till investigations are over."
The policeman explained in deep detail.
"So, like a bodyguard?"
"Sure, yes. Something like that. You need to be protected. This might be our big chance to finally get Adam after chasing him down for so many years. So you're very important to this Investigation." The policeman stated Lyra nodded in understanding.
"Alright then. So where is this new bodyguard of mine?" Lyra questioned, looking around and she couldn't spot anyone.
"Stone?" The policeman beckoned and the strange choice of name made Lyra arch her brows. The door opened and Lyra was immediately taken aback, her jaw dropping in awe as the man stepped in.
Stone Clifford, the twenty–nine year old handsome work of art and a special member of the police force. Lyra shamelessly let her eyes scan every inch of his features; his arms looked toned, his biceps were ripped and tugged around the fabric of his shirt, so much that the indents of each muscle was expressed against the shirt. The fabric of the shirt clung into him like glue, and it granted her a free access way to view not only his biceps, but his ripped abs and pectorals.
He had dark–brown hair that he wore in tousled curls. Lyra noted that his most enigmatic features were his silver–blue eyes. They were striking and piercing, those mesmerizing eyes of his held so much appeal, yet so much icy coldness. His thin lips seemed like they were always pressed into a line and they east above his perfectly chiseled jaw.
Overall, he looked menacing and very dangerous. He seemed unfeeling as well, and quite intimidating. Those piercing eyes of his settled on Lyra and she shuddered a bit being the center of that cold gaze. He seemed quite hostile, how was she supposed to be with this type of person every moment of the day?
"Lyra, this is your new bodyguard, Stone Clifford..." The policeman introduced.
Lyra stared back at Stone, who had still been looking at her all these while-she felt a wicked shiver lick her spine. Granted, Stone was undeniably sexy but she had a very bad feeling about him. Something told her that he isn't all as he appears to be...

Lyra felt she would get sick if she saw another one of her female co–workers shamelessly throw themselves at Stone again.
Yes, Stone is at her workplace.
It's mandatory for Stone to follow her everywhere she goes, including her office. He was to stay with her in her own department's personal office room, but Lyra found it quite uncomfortable and asked him to stay at the lobby instead. However, he's refusing to budge...
"Stone, you're causing a distraction at my workplace." Lyra whispered to him as he was standing just next to her.
He turned sideways, looking down at her. He stared at her for a while with that unfeeling gaze of his, and then he faced–front.
Lyra absolutely hated this arrogant attitude of his, it was infuriating and he made her feel like punching him-or any other thing at all, but she couldn't do that. This is an office.
Lyra caught a glimpse of two female co–workers at the end of the room giggling together and pointing at Stone and then when they noticed her staring at them, their frowns died off and they stared at her with contempt.
That's right, everyone in the office still hated her after everything that had happened between her and Gerald.
Lyra sighed, "Stone, I know you're doing your job but I'll appreciate it if you please go to lobby and-"
"Fine." He rudely intercepted, and then walked out of the office room. Lyra exhaled deeply and reclined unto her chair, Stone was going to be a huge pain in her ass at this rate...
Two hours later, it was time for their lunch break. Lyra was straddled with a lot of work, so she wouldn't be able to go out to eat. She decided to order something and eat at the office, so she would be able to get some work.
"Uhm Lyra, can you come look at these quotations for me please?" One of her co–workers asked and Lyra nodded then got up from her chair to attend to his request.
BAM!
Just as she stood up, a gunshot was heard in the office! And afterwards came so many collective screams. Lyra froze in her tracks.
Is it them again?
