Knock knock knock !
A seemingly superficial but sharp knock continued to knock on Liz's bedroom door. It was still 6 a.m and she couldn't remember exactly when she fell asleep.
Liz rubbed her eyes, still feeling somewhat sleepy, pulled a scarf that was on top of her drawer beside her bed and wrapped it around her shoulders as it was cold.
Baron was still asleep on the mattress that was placed on the floor as no extra bed was available in the room. Ever since he had returned from his school, he had found it easier to sleep in Liz's than the room Angie had allocated to him.
It was downway the hall, a little lonely and dark with moderate light passing through it.
Baron darted himself away into the blanket as soon as Liz opened her door, that morning breeze made him hold tighter onto his blanket not realizing that a serious matter was about to happen.
Liz opened the door and it wasn't a surprise to her that it was Angie knocking all along so she composed herself and greeted the mighty woman of the Max house in a gentle manner.
"Mom, Good morning." Liz greeted Angie
"Good morning dear, how are you doing?" Angie asked Liz but with a flattering smile all over her face as though it was a genuine smile.
Angie then rolled her eyes all over the room scanning to see if anyone else was inside with Liz yet she could see Baron still asleep and had Covered himself leaving only his face to be visible.
Angie didn't step further into the room but kept smiling oddly in front of Liz that it irritated her a lot.
"You know I sleep with Baron here." Liz said in her mind feeling agitated at the way Angie was looking around her room but kept her composure, noticing that Angie was acting a bit awkward that morning.
"What does she want?" Liz tried to read Angie's thoughts but was met with a set of predatory eyes that seemed to be rejoicing at something that was yet to be revealed.
Angie was wearing her formal work clothes, a well ironed dark tuxedo suit with a pair of Vintage dream Oxford shoes that left more to be desired and she had her hair up in a bun style, a sign that everyone knew was her official dress code for reporting to the office.
Before Max disappeared, Angie would accompany him at times but not on a regular basis.
"Have breakfast and come to see me in the study. Pack some if you want."
"Pack ?" Liz wondered why she needed to pack a breakfast when she was already living in the house.
"What's wrong with her this morning?"
Liz answered "ok" and was left very confused by the word "pack".
Angie went to the study which was just after Liz's room and relaxed a bit, reading through the tabloids as she waited for Liz.
"That girl has some nerves!" Angie remarked angrily and pressed her thumb hard wanting to bite her lip but spared her Lip gloss the trouble, rolling both lips together to keep the glossiness uniform.
Liz closed the door to her room to shield Baron from the cold and plopped down onto her bed puzzled about the "pack some breakfast...." Line, wondering what was wrong with Angie.
The more she thought, the more an eerie feeling masked her body that she started to tremble.
"What's her plan? Or Did Suzan tell her I complained?"
Liz raised her head in anticipation but plopped back doubting if Angie would do anything serious.
"God is with me." Liz murmured
After a few minutes, Aarush called Liz.
His school schedule had changed and he was supposed to travel that morning instead of the end of January.
Liz was excited to see his call and wanted to answer the call but she feared Angie so she turned the call off and texted him back immediately knowing very well he was hurt by her silence from the previous day.
"Love good morning. Are you okay? I'm sorry but My grandmother is around. I can't answer your call." She texted him
Aarush was desperate to see Liz that morning so he tried to ask her to come out of the house stealthily but Liz declined fearing Angie.
"Love, you know how hard Angie is,Please let's do it another time, I miss you too."
"I get you but something has just come up now."
Aarush had to be brief as his dad, Mr. Khurana was rushing for their flight to the city.
"Aarush, get off the phone and let's move. I don't want you to be texting your buddies once we board our flight. You have to mingle with my friends' kids." Mr. Khurana warned Aarush
"Yes father, just give me a minute text my friend who is unaware I am leaving this morning."
Mr. Khurana agreed and gave Aarush an extra 5 mins so he could text his friend, but Mr. Khurana knew it was Liz Aarush was thinking about.
"Be fast." Khurana added and Aarush made sure to use every single second in those minutes to pour out his heart, mind and soul to Liz.
Aarush felt like he was going to be so busy and Liz would feel perhaps disheartened or rather disappointed just in case their communication dwindled.
"I just wanted to let you know that I am leaving this morning. My dad changed his mind after a friend of his offered me a place to stay in their house. I love you so much and would like to stay but I have to go."
Aarush sent the message feeling deeply sad but got up and pulled his bags out of his room towards the car waiting for them outside.
His mother, Mrs. Charlotte was calling him outside to load his bag into the trunk.
"Take your seat now." She demanded of him and he obeyed.
Before everyone else sat in the car, Aarush took one more last look at his phone but saw no response, he decided to write one more message to Liz as he had to keep his phone away during the entire journey per his father's request.
"I will always love you, if something ever changes between us, we will find a way to discuss it before parting ways."
When Liz read both messages, it was a mixture of emotions for her, not knowing the perfect response to give to Aarush that she wasn't going to give up on him.
"Is this why my heart was pounding so hard all this while?" Liz asked herself, looking at Baron who was still so sleepy.
Liz Sighed out, holding her phone and texted Aarush about how they would keep in touch and so on but Aarush's phone was away in the pocket, in silence mode. He couldn't touch his phone until they had reached their destination.
Aarush had to start conversing with his uncles and Aunties who were traveling together with them to the city.
They had initially come to Mr. Khurana's house for this very purpose, to escort their future heir to school.
Liz waited for a while hoping to get at least one final message from Aarush before the start of their journey but she received none and Liz guessed the obvious.
"His dad must have asked him to stay away from his phone."
Liz got up and changed from her night wear to a decent dress, put her moisturizer on, stretched her arms and legs and smiled at herself in the mirror, affirming her daily affirmations.
"I am loved and I am beautiful."
Liz then arranged her whole room being careful not to wake Baron up, it had been long since he slept past 6am. At school, classes always started at 7am and for one to be early in attending the lessons, they had to be up by 6am.
"Whatever breakfast she means !" Liz mumbled to herself and decided to go see Angie and find out the hidden meaning to the "pack some breakfast" sentence.
