Chapter 4 Don's Expectations

Alfredo's POV,

"Who exactly are you, lady? Are you some politician's daughter or what?" He eyed me skeptically.

"And why do you think I am someone's daughter? What if I was someone's wife just looking to have a good time?" I asked with mock seriousness.

His eyes widened and I laughed heartily.

"Well, if that's the case, we did nothing wrong. We only had drinks." He sounded like someone caught guilty of a crime.

"I was only teasing, I am someone's daughter," Was. I said inwardly. "I'm Elena, Barnes."

"Nice to meet you." He said and we both laughed.

He didn't seem to recognize my last name and I let it slide. It didn't matter.

"Alright, I have to go. This was fun." I said and brought out my car keys from my purse.

"I would like to see you again, if you want to, of course."

"Fine by me. Call me anytime," my car beeped as I unlocked it with the remote control.

"I definitely will," he pulled the door open for me before I could. I got and slid behind the wheel.

Starting the engine, I winked at him and drove out of the parking lot. From the rearview mirror, I could see him still staring at my car till I was out of sight.

Satisfied with how my afternoon went, I turned on the music player in the car and surfed through my playlist until I found a song that suited my mood. Little did I know what that one encounter would result in.

After Elena left, I didn't bother to go into the hotel. I made my way to my car and headed back home. That girl awoke everything manly in me. I don't think I've ever wanted any woman that badly.

The whole time I was with her, my mind was filled with the thoughts of things I wanted to do to her, things I will definitely do to her.

I promised myself that. I pulled the car to a stop at a red light and watched as an ambulance sped by, the shrill sound of the siren interrupting the peaceful environment. The loud honking from the driver behind me startled me and I realized the light had turned green. I stepped on the gas and continued on my way.

After a few minutes, the black sedan car behind me caught my attention. The same car had been at my back for the last ten minutes. It didn't take long for me to know I was being tailed. Who could it be? A rival family? Someone I had wronged? There were a lot of options to consider as my family had a lot of enemies.

I was unfazed though, I was very good at losing tails. I opened my glove compartment and retrieved the small gun I always kept there. I held the gun and continued driving, watching the car closely in the mirror. Time to get this bastard off my back. I increased my speed and the car waited a little before doing the same. I was sure the driver knew he had been made.

I weave in and out of the traffic, making sure I maintained the speed limit. The last thing I needed right now was the cops breathing down my neck. At the next turn, I swerved the car in front of a truck and released the pedal a little. I had taken advantage of the busy road and gained a little distance from my pursuer. He attempted the turn but had to change course when he almost collided with a public bus. Aware of that, I peeled off and didn't stop till I was sure he wasn't after me anymore. I was home in a few minutes and a maid told me my father had requested for my presence as soon as I was back.

I found him in his office having a discussion with Mike. He had one of his big Cuban cigars in his hand. They rounded up their conversation as soon as I walked in and my father dismissed him.

"Alfredo," Mike said as he walked by me.

"Hey, Mike," I replied.

My father waited until Mike had exited the room before he started. I took my seat, already guessing what he was about to tell me. He took one long puff from his cigar and sat back in his chair.

"Where have you been, Alfredo?" He asked calmly. "Out, Pops. Was just hanging around." I answered, staring straight at him.

There was total silence afterward. My father continued smoking, taking occasional glances at me. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat.

I starting to feel nervous. He had that effect on people. That was part of the reason he was very feared in the underworld. He thought carefully about everything he said and never denied anything that came out of his mouth. One could never know what was going on in his mind and that always gave him the upper hand in negotiations and business meetings.

"Figlio," He now had a serious look on his face, "When are you going to settle down?

"You can't keep fooling around."

"I'm not fooling around, Dad," I replied cautiously. The last thing I wanted was to annoy him. That never ended well for anyone.

"Why won't you get married then?"

"Can't find the right woman" was my answer. I was starting to get impatient.

"What about Isabella? She would make a perfect wife for you."

"Definitely not" My tone was sharp.

Isabella is the daughter of Signor Cavelli, a friend of my father. She was thick and very beautiful, with dark, sexy eyes that could draw any man in. We met at a party my father hosted a year back and we'd gotten along very well. We started dating after a while and our fathers were happy at the prospect, hoping it would result in marriage. We dated for two long months. I had to admit, I enjoyed my time with her. She was kind, loving and the sex was very good. I can still picture her full, round tits and her fluffy, embracing thighs wrapped around me as we were entwined in passionate lovemaking. I soon realized we weren't compatible and our differences were too serious to overlook. We ended things and my father didn't fail to address how disappointed he was in me.

"If not Isabella, then who?" His expression was grim.

"Dad, I - "We were interrupted by his phone ringing. Raising a finger at me, as if indicating one second, my father answered the phone. When I noticed he might be a while on the phone, I fake a yawn and took to my feet. He had a questioning look on his face, which I ignored as I turned and left the room. Thoughts of Elena occupied my mind as I went to bed that night.

The next day, I had nothing much to do at home but I didn't want to call her very early. I stayed in my room for the better part of the day, avoiding my father. Late in the afternoon, I took my phone and dialed her number. She picked on the second ring.

"Hello?" She sounded distracted.

"Hi, Elena"

"Hi. Who am I speaking ---," There was a pause. Then, "Alfredo?"

"You figured it out," I said amusedly. "How are you doing?"

"I'm okay, you?"

"I'm fine also. I was wondering if you would like to go out with me today." I walk up to my window and draw the curtains aside. The room brightened immediately.

"Um, yeah, sure." She said after two seconds. "What time?"

I check my watch. "I was thinking in the next twenty minutes or so, give me your address and I'll come pick you up" I start trying to imagine what she could be doing right now.

"Fine by me. Where are we going?" I could hear the curiosity in her voice.

"I don't know, yet. We'll think of something." That was a lie. I already had a location in mind but I wanted to keep it to myself for now.

Something beeped on her end and I could hear her rushing to turn whatever it was off. A clattering sound followed and then she started coughing.

"What's going on? Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she coughed. "I can't say the same about this burnt cookie though." she burst into laughter. I detected a hint of sadness in that laughter. Made a mental note to find out what could have caused that. I then realize I hadn't done a background check on her. I made another mental note to do that.

"See you in twenty minutes. Bye"
