Chapter 4 Imprisoned

MAIA'S POV

The door opened, and my mate entered. He closed the door behind him and stood a couple of feet away from the door.

"Are you ready to talk now?" he asked, his voice was cold and filled with authority.

I just sat there looking at the floor.

"The faster you talk, the lesser your punishments would be. So, I suggest you talk now," he added.

I lifted my head and looked at his face. The color of his eyes was changing from amber to black. He looked like he was trying to gain control of his anger. I looked at him with my eyes empty. I was at the point where I had already lost my soul.

"Are you really not going to talk?" he yelled.

His voice echoed in the room like the thunder during the storm.

I wanted to tell him I was sorry for being weak, but I couldn't bring myself to utter a word. The last thing I remembered was seeing his angry face before darkness took over me.

'Thanks, Avi, for being there for me, for always looking out for me, and for being the best friend I ever had.' I said.

I woke up in a dark room with a beeping sound of a machine. I looked at my arm and saw an IV connected to me.

'Avi?' I called out.

There was a moment of complete silence, so I tried to reach out to her again.

'Avi!' I yelled in my head.

A couple of minutes had passed, and I received no response from her.

I couldn't possibly be dead. Was I? I mean, there were no hospitals or IVs in heaven or hell.

I tried to get up, but I was too weak to do so.

'Well, at least one thing hasn't changed yet. I am still weak!' I scoffed, insulting myself.

After my third try, I was, finally, able to sit up on the bed. I hissed as I removed the IV on my arm. My head started spinning, and I held on to the bed to stabilize myself.

Once my head had finally recovered, I slowly got out of the bed and my feet touched the cold floors.

'I might really be in Heaven. The floors can't be this cold in Hell.' I mumbled to myself.

I checked the door and found it unlocked. I peeked outside and saw that the halls were empty.

My legs were still weak, so I had to lean on the walls to support myself. I tried to see where I was, but these walls seemed to go on forever. After minutes of dawdling, I finally found the stairs. I held on to the railing for my dear life while looking over to see how long the stairs go.

'Great! It's unending. I must be in Hell. Heaven can't have this kind of torture.' I complained.

Going down the stairs took me longer than I wanted it to be. I had only passed three floors down when my legs finally gave in. I leaned on the wall as I sat on the stairs.

I took a deep breath before holding on to the railing to pull myself up. I had a moment of heart attack when I almost stumbled over.

After successfully clearing another floor, I came face to face with two men who looked like guards.

"Looks like we got a runner. Alert the King Alpha right away." The man with a beard said.

"Yes, sir!" the other one replied, then left.

"Where am I?" I asked the man weakly.

"It doesn't matter where you are now. What should matter to you is where you will go after trying to escape." He replied.

I don't know how long we were standing in the hallway when I felt my knees give in. If it wasn't for the bearded man holding me by the arm, I would have collapsed on the floor.

"Get up now! You are going back to your cell!" He exclaimed, pulling me by the arm.

I winced at his grip on my arm. He didn't seem to care that I could barely hold myself up because he was dragging me across the floor. We stopped suddenly and when I looked up, I saw the elevator doors open.

'Of course! This building has an elevator, but I was too stupid to even think of it.' I scoffed in my head.

He pressed something, and the elevator went up. In just a matter of seconds, we were back to where I started. He dragged me back to the room and sat me on the bed while standing in front of me.

The other man with him arrived, and there was someone behind him.

'Hm... Mint! That cologne smells so good.' I fantasized.

It suddenly brought me out of my little bubble when a growl erupted in the room.

"Who dared hurt her?" The man with the mint cologne yelled.

"We didn't hurt her, King Alpha," the bearded man trembled.

"Then explain this!" The man they called King Alpha yelled, pointing at my bruised arm.

"I didn't mean to, King Alpha. She wasn't cooperating, so I had to drag her to get her back in here." The bearded man replied.

"How can she possibly fight back when she isn't even strong enough to stand on her own?" The King Alpha roared.

Suddenly, flashes of a man roaring and yelling flashed in my head. It disappeared as quickly as it arrived.

"Get out of here before I throw you both in the dungeon." The King Alpha warned them.

When King Alpha turned around, I could finally see his face. It was like an ice-cold bucket of water thrown on me.

My eyes were wide with shock and fear.

The King Alpha was my mate.

Memories of what happened came flashing back. When I regained my memory, more worry settled in because I couldn't reach out to Avi.

Was I wolf-less? Did the Moon Goddess take away my wolf for being such a disgrace to the supernatural world?

"Were you really that stupid to think that you can escape my castle? You can even barely stand up!" He scolded me.

I just sat on the bed, staring at the ground.

A few minutes later, a woman with a white coat entered the room.

"King Alpha." She said, bowing to him.

"Check her vitals and insert that IV back in her." He ordered.

The woman who seemed to be the doctor did as she was told. She took a syringe from her bag and inserted the needle into my arm that connected to the IV bag. She instructed me to lie down while she was checking on my vitals.

My mate was standing by the wall while watching the doctor.

"She is still weak, King Alpha. I have given her a booster to help speed up her recovery." The doctor reported.

"Dismiss." He simply said.

The doctor left, and it was only my mate and me in the room.

"So, are you finally going to tell me who are your accomplices?" He asked.

"I don't know what you are talking about, King Alpha." I mumbled.

"Huh! You dare lie to me? What would she-wolf like you be doing in the middle of the no-man's-land? Don't you dare tell me you just found me unconscious because that is bullshit!" He yelled.

I shuddered in fear as I sat there looking at my hands. How I wished Avi was around. Most probably, he killed Avi because he wanted to avoid being bound by the mate bond. Of course, if he rejected me, he would also suffer the consequences. So, he killed Avi instead. Without a wolf, there wouldn't be a mate bond.

"Answer me," he growled, pulling me out of my head.

"I am telling the truth, King Alpha." I whimpered.

He let out a roar, then left the room. I heard the door being locked, and I was back on my own.

I should just kill myself. My mate does not want me, and Avi died because of me. There was no point in living now.
