Chapter 9 She Changed Her Mind (1)

Giselle's POV

I woke up.

My gaze naturally shifted toward the window, and I was met with a stunning view of the clear blue sky, illuminated by the sun's bright rays that had been up for quite some time. Judging by the sun's position, I estimated it was already 9 in the morning.

I couldn't believe it, but I actually managed to fall asleep in Steven's cabin.

As if to snap myself, I slapped my cheeks lightly, murmuring, "Giselle, don't be a fool. You must always be cautious. This is not a place where you can afford to sleep all day."

"Why did you slap yourself?"

"Ahhh!"

With a sudden voice, I leaped up and let out a piercing scream upon hearing a voice behind me.

As I craned my neck to see who had startled me, I was met with the familiar face of Steven, who had been leaning in close to get my attention.

His face was mere inches from mine. A rush of adrenaline ran into me at the unexpected encounter.

"What?" he asked.

As soon as his breath grazed my forehead, I recoiled and scrambled backward on the couch. My heart plummeted to the ground, leaving me completely deserted.

"You're quite the loud one," Steven remarked, assuming a haughty stance with his arms crossed like a typical landowner.

If he's going to take issue with my noise level, then I have a bone to pick with him too!

"A-And what about you?!" I retorted, wrapping my arms around myself. "You were standing awfully close to me."

"I made sure to keep a safe distance," he replied calmly. "But then you suddenly jumped up and stared at me. You were the one who closed the gap."

Initially, I thought he was just messing with me. However, his serious expression made me reconsider. After taking a deep breath, I acknowledged that he had a point.

Biting my lower lip, I shot him a fierce look and demanded, "What do you want?"

He responded, "I was just trying to wake you up."

"Why?" I inquired.

"Because it's time for breakfast," he explained.

My eyes widened in surprise.

'Did he cook breakfast for me, and was he trying to wake me up so I could eat with him?'

Apart from my biological parents, he was the first to cook breakfast for me. It was a moment I cherished and hoped to experience again once I found my life partner. However, my dreams of a peaceful and romantic married life were shattered when I discovered Lois's true nature.

He was a jerk, and I could no longer envision a future with him.

"Your cheeks are turning red," Steven observed, his eyes fixed on my face.

Feeling embarrassed, I instinctively covered my cheeks with my hands and avoided his gaze. I was grateful that he had cooked for me, but at the same time, I felt ashamed for yelling at him earlier.

"I'm always like this," I tried to explain, even though my pale complexion contradicted my words.

Thankfully, Steven didn't comment on my excuse and simply walked away, muttering, "Let's go to the kitchen."

My nerves were on edge as I trailed behind him, unsure what to expect.

Upon entering the kitchen, I immediately saw the pristine table devoid of any breakfast signs.

No plates, forks or spoons, cups, and most importantly, NO FOOD.

"Why is the table empty? I thought he cooked our breakfast."

I wondered if my eyes were playing tricks on me due to my drowsy state. I rubbed them in disbelief, but regrettably, the table remained bare.

Suddenly, I couldn't help but blurt out, "Where is the food?"

My hand instinctively reached out to touch anything, and it landed on a piece of fabric.

I was taken aback by my actions and stared at my hand, which was clutching the hem of his shirt!
