Chapter 5 Why Did he Save Me

"What are you doing?"

A voice boomed through the air, halting the vile assault.

I turned to see a figure standing, and my breath caught in my throat as I realized it was Steven.

"S-Steven," I called.

For a few heart-stopping seconds, Steven held my gaze before turning his attention to the three menacing rogues who had nearly robbed me of my virginity.

"Can't you see it? We're indulging in a scrumptious feast!"

"Hey, we were the ones who discovered her first, so kindly step aside."

"No!" I shouted. "Please they..."

I hadn't finished my words when I saw a head, detached from its body, hurtling towards me with alarming speed, and silhouetted against the pale moon.

I couldn't move, frozen in terror as the gruesome sight filled my vision.

Blood sprayed my face, coating me in a sticky, warm film.

Time seemed to slow to a crawl as the head tumbled through the air, a grotesque comet hurtling towards the earth.

And then, with a sickening thud, it hit the ground. The bubble of time burst, and reality crashed back in with a jolt.

Sounds came back.

The two rogues slithered away from me, their eyes glowing sinister as they transformed into snarling beasts.

They closed in on Steven, their teeth bared and their growls echoing through the night.

"You dared kill Luka!" one of them hissed, their claws glinting in the moonlight. "Now, you will pay with your own."

He and Steven collided in a fierce clash of wills, their bodies tearing into each other with savage force.

"Grr!"

"Grrr!"

Steven's claws swiped at him, slicing a deep gash into his ear, but he refused to back down. With a snarl, the rogue sank his teeth into Steven's unguarded shoulder, drawing blood.

For a moment, it seemed as though the rogue had the upper hand, but his grip faltered, and Steven seized the opportunity to throw him away.

Bam!

He hurtled through the air, crashing into a nearby tree with bone-jarring force.

"Eunng!" he whimpered.

Dazed and disoriented, the rogue struggled to his feet, his ears flat against his head and blood smearing his fur.

As Steven regained his footing, the last rogue trembled into view.

"What the f*ck!" the last rogue shouted.

Desperate, he tried to flee, but Steven was too quick. With a fierce yank, he dragged the rogue back and hurled him into a thick tree, the sickening crack of breaking ribs echoing through the forest.

Krrk!

The rogue hit the dirt with a thud, gasping for air and grimacing in agony.

He gazed at Steven, stuttering, "A-Are you the Blood Rose Pack's guard? The damned Rogue?"

Steven didn't bother to respond. He strode over to the pathetic excuse for a rogue and loomed over him.

"Please, spare me! I swear I won't lay a finger on that woman! I'll flee as far as I can!"

Steven ignored his pathetic pleas. He raised his claws and ended the rogue's miserable existence by slicing off his head with a single, merciless swipe.

"Ack!"

Thud.

In mere moments, those rogues were lying lifeless on the dirt.

Gasping for air, I gazed up at Steven.

He stood before me, crimson staining his visage.

My heart was gripped with terror, but my legs were rendered immobile, leaving me unable to flee.

'He's a monster.'

'And Samantha expected me to marry this man in her stead?!'

His hand was raised in the air. "Are you..."

Thinking that he would end my life just as he had done to the other rogues, I lashed out and fiercely bit down his arm, a primal growl escaping my lips.

"Grr!"

Steven didn't push me away.

Instead, he held me close, watching as I clung to him with all my might.

"Stop biting my arm," he commanded to let go, but I could not bring myself to release my grip.

As I looked up at him, I saw the exhaustion etched on his face. He seemed so unbothered by my attack as if he had seen it all before.

But when he spoke, his words cut me to the core.

"Is that how you show gratitude to someone who saved you?"

Suddenly, something struck my head with force.

"Ugh!

My teeth let go of his arm as my mind spun, and I struggled to keep my balance.

And then, I was enveloped in a warm embrace, and a surge of comfort and safety washed over me.

The familiar scent of Steven filled my senses, and I was relieved and bewildered by his presence.

'Why did he save me?' I thought before losing consciousness in his arms.
