Chapter 4 Mate

Our kiss was sweet and calm, but still had a strange urgency to it. All I could do was reciprocate this feeling that was going through my whole body, it was like a surge of energy flowing through my whole being, this energy was coming from Leo, he was passing this feeling to me, it was addictive like the heaviest drug I've ever seen.

It sure was something different, I had kissed someone before but nothing felt like it, it was like my body was, like his body was mine, nothing made sense. I regained my consciousness and pushed him away, he wasn't staring at me with his usual look, it was different from all the times, something was happening.

"What the hell was that! Why did you do that, just now!"

"I-I think it's you, there's no other explanation after that!"

"I'm what!? Are you going crazy by any chance?"

"You're my mate, always have been. I just didn't want to see it, but this, what just happened between us was different."

"You're not saying anything!"

"Our kiss, it's like the elders said, an energy discharge, something special. that's how we know when we've found our mate. I'm sure you felt it too, don't try to lie to me."

"I-I don't believe it! Why did you have to do that! Why did you have to test this stupid theory right now!"

"I can't marry your sister, even before I knew that I couldn't."

"And why not!"

"Because I love you Elise, from when we were just two children I loved you, as you grew up my feeling got even bigger, even if I didn't want to admit it or felt that none of this could be reciprocated no matter how hard I tried, I kept loving you. But now we don't need that anymore, your parents follow the traditions, just tell them and we can live together!"

"You can only be delusional now! You were promised to my sister, I can't do that to her, not to her and not to my family. Even if we told them, my parents wouldn't accept it."

Leo was confused, I imagined he would be, but I knew deep down, even if I died unhappy, they wouldn't sacrifice their name and risk losing everything by handing our legacy into my sister's hands, they would die before letting this happen, they ignored laws and traditions, they forgot everything before allowing their plans to go down the drain that easily. Leo would never understand, if I tried to explain he might try to run away with me, I didn't know if what I felt for him was a lie but after our kiss, after what I felt when I touched him I knew it was true.

"There's something you don't want to tell me, you're hiding something important about us."

"We can't do that, in fact we can't do anything, you're marrying my sister after all, I can't be with you and I never will!"

Before he could say anything in his favor I ran, I ran as fast as I could, I needed to get away from him, staying away was the only option. I ran inside the house, I thought I heard Leo shouting my name, I

ran up the main stairs, I wanted to get to my room and lock myself in there as fast as possible, but before I got close to my bedroom door I felt my body being pulled into one of the rooms.

Now I was face to face with death, I was face to face with Emily, she was staring at me like a predator, her arm had an uncommon strength, I didn't know what to do now. Her eyes were filled with hatred, I was sure she would kill me right there.

"Let me go now! What do you think you're doing!"

"YOU'RE A BASTARD, I KNEW FROM THE FIRST TIME I SAW YOU THAT I SHOULD HAVE KILLED YOU WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!"

"We are sisters, I wouldn't be able to do that with your blood."

"After what I've heard, after all I've seen of our parents you still think this blood means something to me!"?

"And what do you intend to do? Are you going to kill me here and now?"

"No, that would be too easy. I've seen your little romance with your best friend, I know what he means to you, and I'm going to take it away from you, I'm going to make sure he dies unhappy and you can never be happy together, that's what I'll do."

I knew at that moment how serious she was, even if Leo was just another victim in all of this she was going to make him suffer to the end all for a brief whim of hers, all because she could.
