Chapter 6 Involved with the CEO and the Gangster

Adele was trying to disguise her trembling body as she was escorted towards Heitor. Watching Robert approach, she knew she was the victim in the situation with Heitor. But she had lived with him long enough to learn about the norms of crime, where a man was considered dashing when he betrayed and a woman was deemed worthless.

Adele's mind was a mix of thoughts as she tried to organize herself and make a quick decision before the situation became uncontrollable.

"What do you want?" she asked, approaching Heitor. "Didn't you bring the secretary? She seemed so comfortable in my bed. I felt like she was an intimate friend who was always at my house."

"It was a mistake," Heitor replied, noticing his men reaching for their weapons. He looked back and saw a group approaching. He didn't recognize them; they weren't the police, and he didn't remember any involvement with them in the past. He turned his attention back to Adele, realizing she was pale and trembling.

"Adele," Heitor called, his expression changing. "Where were you that night?"

"The night you betrayed me?" she nervously retorted, starting to stutter as she saw so many armed people around. "You have no right."

"I'm asking a question: Where were you that night?"

"No need," Robert shouted from a considerable distance. "To say anything to this man. Let's go."

"I don't understand," Adele said loudly. "You," she pointed at Heitor, swallowing her fear in an attempt to buy some time. "You weren't concerned about me when you believed I was out of town. From what I saw, you were comfortable with your secretary in my bed." She looked at Robert, holding his gaze. "Thank you for what you did, thank you for saving me, but you're a stranger. I don't know why you're here. Go back to your life, and you go back to your secretary. Leave me alone."

Adele took a deep breath. She was still consumed by fear, but she believed her words might hold both of them and their men back, giving her some time to stay alive.

"I understand your pain," Heitor said. "But now it's time to go. I'll reward you."

"No," Adele replied, her voice almost gone.

Adele's denial spurred Robert to continue advancing. He knew Heitor wouldn't let her go elsewhere and saw an opportunity to impress her by protecting her.

Adele grew desperate as she saw both groups of men preparing for a confrontation, all holding their weapons, ready to fight over her.

She remembered a strategy she used before getting surgery, whenever she got into a situation she couldn't resolve.

Adele looked at both of them, her legs wobbling. She placed a hand on her head and pretended to feel unwell, searching for a wall to lean on, but finding nothing. Determined to fake a faint, she collapsed onto the ground, hoping someone would help her up and hoping they would leave as quickly as possible without fighting.

"Trouble," one of Heitor's men yelled. "We don't have time to stay here."

"But I need to take her to the airport infirmary," Heitor replied, assuring them.

"Boss, if we stay, we'll get caught, or we'll become outnumbered and killed. We need to leave now."

Heitor gently laid Adele on the ground to avoid hurting her and followed his men to escape from the police. He glanced back at Robert, stopping in front of him and saying,

"This woman is taken, playboy. Stay away if you want to live."

"I can see that," Robert replied sarcastically, letting out a chuckle. "Her 'owner' ran away and left her unconscious on the ground. You're just a coward scared of the police."

Heitor felt his blood boil, but he couldn't retort. He didn't have time, and he had never seen Robert before, but he knew that man would become an enemy, anticipating a future confrontation.

Robert quickly crouched down while his men provided cover, picking Adele up in his arms. He gave one last look at Heitor, who was running away and continually looking back to see what was happening, fearing he might lose Adele forever.

Robert took Adele to the airport infirmary, noticing that she was quickly regaining consciousness, feeling embarrassed about everything that had just transpired.

She got up from the bed, walked over to Robert, stood on her tiptoes, and said,

"I don't know what you're doing here, but I don't want you following me around or getting involved in my life's matters. Leave me alone," she requested, noticing that the people in the small room were leaving to give them privacy.

"Adele, you didn't have to jump over the wall at my house. I was bewildered, trying to understand what had happened to you. It took me a while to figure out you had run away."

"I did that so I wouldn't have to explain anything to you. You saved my life, but you're still a stranger. We're not dating; we're not friends. We had sex once, and that's all there was to it," she responded bluntly.

"I can't forget what happened in my bed," he approached, his body brushing against hers, returning her intense gaze. "Look at me and say you didn't enjoy it, that you don't want more. Your moans are still echoing in my mind, along with the memory of your body becoming slick against mine, allowing us to move freely." He smiled, seeing Adele's cheeks turn red. "Look at me and tell me you don't want me."

Robert pulled Adele close by her waist, enveloping her in his strong arms, providing reassurance. He lifted her chin, preparing for the passionate kiss that followed, savoring the scent of her soft skin. His heart rejoiced at the reciprocation in the kiss.

After the kiss ended, they exchanged an intense look. Adele could sense Robert's embrace.

She stepped back in silence, opened her wallet, took out a hundred dollars, placed it in his hand, and closed his hand around it.

"You seem like a decent guy. I believe you don't force women to be with you. Just let me be. Don't try to make me do something I don't want."
