Chapter 5 Love 5

In Charlotte's home ,she is lying face down on her bed crying. There is tissue , pizza boxes ,bags of chips scattered all around the floor.

Charlotte seems to be blowing out her nose and crying. Cherry seems to be right under her arm . She hasn't fed her in two days .

Ding dong , suddenly

Alexa ring up

" Evelyn is at the door "

'Mom is here 'Charlotte thought for a few seconds still sobbing .

"Alexa open door " Charlotte said

ALexa opens the door

Evelyn comes in with groceries in one hand and drops all the groceries on the kitchen counter top .

With her overly priced bag in the

Second hand she is looking for Charlotte .

"O Charlotte where are you " Evelyn says in a singing voice tone

"In here mom " Charlotte said in a hoarse voice

Evelyn follows her voice to her bedroom and walks in .

As soon as Evelyn walks in , Cherry jumps down from the bed and out the door to go find food .

Everywhere is practically a mess as Evelyn is trying to navigate and find a place to pass to Charlotte's bed .

She uses her leg to kick aside pizza boxes .

She has finally gotten to where Charlotte is lying down.

"O honey , you look like a mess"

Evelyn said, touching Charlotte's hair slightly and putting hand sanitizer.

"Mom !!!, seriously " Charlotte said angrily

"Why does it , by the looks of it,look like you have given up on life" Evelyn said in a tone still taking in the feel of the room .

"You are supposed to be up , you are not to let anyone see you weakness Charlotte " Evelyn said in an attempt to motivate Charlotte

Evelyn is trying to yank Charlotte

her on the bed but fails woefully as Charlotte seems to have gained more pounds over the last week.

"You have gained a lot of weight Charlotte " Evelyn said

"I called in your office and heard you have not been going to work and why is that " Evelyn said without a slight of sympathy .

Charlotte took a slight angry look

at her mom and put her face back down on the bed not willing to answer the question .

Evelyn just continued like she wasn't offended by Charlotte's attitude .

"For how many days have you not been going to work ?" Evelyn asked

"Mom, it's been a week, " Charlotte replied .

"A week !!! " Evelyn exclaimed

"So what you have been out here hiding from the world " Evelyn said

"No wonder you look so bad," Evelyn said, slightly closing her nose with one hand .

"You know Charlotte one day you're going to have to face your fears one way or another, " Evelyn said .

Charlotte rose her face from the bed

"Mom, did you just say something nice to me? Charlotte said sarcastically .

Evelyn not even paying her remark any attention .

"Get up, Charlotte you need to take a shower , you stink " Evelyn

said

"Charlotte you need to get your life back together " Evelyn said

Evelyn paused for a minute as if she was thinking and she finally stopped

"You know Charlotte I might have

the perfect solution for you , to get your life back together " Evelyn said

"You know there is something I have not told you before ,but I think now is the right time"

Evelyn added

"What is that mom? " Charlotte said, looking up at her mom .

"You know when I was a lot younger and I was in love with a man and when he cheated on me I felt shattered , I felt like my world was crumbling down and I didn't know where to go from there ".

Evelyn said with a sigh

"I took the advice an old friend gave me to go on a trip and it was lovely. I met new people , experienced new things and I even adopted a new lifestyle ." Evelyn added

"I became full of hope and life , stopped drinking and partying all night and worked on changing my life .

Soon after I met your father and it was the most magical thing you can ever imagine " She continued talking " Evelyn said

"Charlotte , you are still young , you shouldn't let others define you , I don't want you to give up fighting in life ,you are stronger than you can imagine dear . " Evelyn added

Charlotte looked up at her Mom , looking for reassurance in her eyes .

"Mom , you just sounded so cool , not really heard this in a long time , it seems you became hard on me when I left home " Charlotte said

"Yeah I did and I am so sorry , I actually started taking parenting adult children classes ". Evelyn said

"Oh really , no wonder the vibe I have been receiving lately " Charlotte said trying to lift her body from the bed slightly .

"Okay enough of this , I want you to stand up , take a shower and clean your room because it stinks in here " Evelyn said as she brought out a small perfume from her purse and sprayed it in the air .

"Mom !! " Charlotte exclaimed

Evelyn took a look at her daughter and smacked her on the butt with her purse and headed for the door

"Come on down when you are done .

I will cook your favorite ." Evelyn said

A smile came across Charlotte's face as she heard this forgetting she was just smacked on the butt .

She immediately jumped off the bed and hugged Evelyn hard .

After the whole mother daughter bonding moment .

I have something I wish to tell you

When you are done , come down fast .

"What is that" Charlotte asked

"Just come downstairs , and take care of this mess" Evelyn said with one more look inside the room at her face and made her way to the kitchen .

What could it be Charlotte wondered .

Evelyn is cooking rice in the rice cooker , while stirring frying chicken and her famous apple pie is baking in the oven. She is diligently preparing the meal while listening to her playlist on

It has been a long morning , Charlotte began to clean up the mess in her room . Picking up the litter.

She changed her sheets .

Afterwards she took a cold shower and did her skincare .

Charlotte came downstairs humming the lyrics of her favorite song .

She is in a better mood.

The apple pie in the oven seems to saturate the whole house and she follows the lovely smell all the way to the kitchen as she continues humming the lyrics of the song .

She walks into the kitchen and Cherry is on the floor on its side .

She kicks her on the back furiously .

she growls . Charlotte walks over to the cupboard and picks up the dog food from the cupboard and places it in the dog bowl and places it on the floor .

Cherry immediately jumps at the food and starts eating . She drops the rest back in the cupboard

Charlotte's stomach was growling. She thought that she could possibly lay her hands on a banana or an apple before the food was done cooking .

She picked up a banana and sat near the kitchen counter top and peeled the banana and took a bite.

"It smells like heaven in here " Charlotte commented

Evelyn was pleased with Charlotte's comment as she gave her a smile .

"Mom , you wanted to tell me something , what is it ? Charlotte asked .

"Ohhh!! .

It totally slipped my mind "Evelyn replied

"Okay I am all ears " Charlotte said

She came by where Charlotte was sitting and grabbed a chair and sat beside her .

"It your grandma ,we got some news a few weeks back , that she has a terminal illness " Evelyn said

Charlotte put her hands over her mouth .

"Is it curable? " Charlotte asked.

"We honestly don't know yet because it is a rare disease , her chances are 50-50 .. so we made her stay with us in the meantime while we monitor her health and diet " Evelyn replied with a sigh

"Why didn't anyone let me know ? " Charlotte asked

"Honey, we didn't want to bother you with such matters " Evelyn replied

"Ohh Mom" Charlotte exclaimed

"How is grandma now ? " Charlotte asked

"She is better ,the treatment the doctors are testing on her seems to be working. " Evelyn said

"Well enough with this " Evelyn said and stood up to go check the

Rice in the rice cooker .

Charlotte put her head on the counter top to think things through.

'How, Grandma has always been so lively ,she has been a source of encouragement all these years , she was the only one I could speak freely to,I can't stand losing her . ' Charlotte thought .

Charlotte seems to be trying to control her emotions while seated behind the counter.her chest is beating faster than ever before .

Charlotte seems to be holding the counter with force , trying to find balance as she was almost having a panic attack .

A few minutes later .

Charlotte was awakened from her thoughts when Evelyn called out to her . Evelyn is standing beside her and hugging her tightly and silently sobbing .

'Oh Charlotte, this must have been too much for her , I shouldn't have told her just yet 'This thought flooded Evelyn's mind like a plague and she felt sorry for her daughter.

"When was the last time you saw Dr Pepper?".Evelyn asked in an anxious voice .

Charlotte is holding her chest and trying to calm down .

Evelyn was rubbing her daughter's back

"About two months ago " Charlotte replies

"2 months, that is quite a long time," Evelyn exclaimed.

"You need to get checked today "Evelyn said

"Yes Mom" Charlotte replied in a low voice without even arguing .

"You need to eat something first"

Evelyn said

She went back to cooking

Charlotte put her face down on the counter .

Some moments later , Evelyn put the food on a tray and placed the food down beside Charlotte .

"You need to eat something, " Evelyn said.

"I don't feel too good mom, " Charlotte said .

Evelyn checked her watch

"I want you to eat something .

Do you want me to feed you " Evelyn said

Charlotte shakes her head in disapproval and drags the tray closer to herself .

Charlotte drank the glass of water and started eating .

After she was done she washed down the food with a glass of milk .

Darling you can go change , I'll take care of the dishes .

Charlotte went back upstairs to change as Evelyn walked on the dishes.
